Is my AP math correct?

I currently have a trip booked for September for my family of 3. DH and I are going to take a child-free trip in late January/early February if I get a job (please let me find a job!). I think if I have a job by our September trip it will be worth it for me (or DH) to upgrade to an AP while we are on that trip.

Currently we have 4 day hoppers and plan to buy Magic Pass, so the value of one adult ticket plus the hopper is $621.63.

We would get a two day hopper for our winter trip, value $275.84. We would likely not get Magic Pass for this trip.

That's a total of $897.47.

An AP is $829.64. Plus we'd get AP discounts once we get the AP on our September trip, and we could possibly get an AP discount on our resort on our winter trip, plus AP discounts on food and shopping then, too.

This is a no-brainer if my math is correct, correct?

An AP is $829.64.

If my math is correct a 4-Day park hopper is $452.63 and a 2-Day is $275.84, which makes it $728.47. This means it is $101.17 cheaper to not buy an annual pass. BUT there are a lot of discounts (food and room) you can get with your annual pass, which can make up the difference easily. Only one of you need to have the annual pass to get those discounts. This is all moot with "Magic Pass" but I am not sure what that is.

And the AP cost is for wdw.

Irish, the only quibble I have with the math is that the ap will (I believe) include memory maker (or specifically your photopass downloads for the year...potato potahto, same thing in the end). So in a way you're paying for it twice. Once in the first ticket and once in the ap.

But if you find value in it, and would absolutely buy it for at least one trip, and wouldn't go without it, then it is what it is and the prices work. For me I would be going from the 400+ price for the first hopper so the math would be harder.

Thank you! MaxPass, not MagicPass. Close, which is where I got confused. I wasn't sure when it goes live. I knew I'd seen some posts that their new scanners are going in so thought it may be soon.

You got it! I mean Memory Maker.

If I upgrade to an AP for our trip this fall, I wouldn't bother buying MM for that trip since it would be included with my AP.

Yes, your math is correct. If you were planning on purchasing Memory Maker for one of the trips, it makes sense to get one AP and buy MMY tickets for the rest of the group. You can purchase the voucher now and if AP rates come out for your September trip, you are eligible for them. You won't even be able to see the AP rates unless you buy and link an AP voucher.

I would have the AP in hand by the time I book our winter trip, so for me, #2 is irrelevant. The discount, for that trip, would be just a bonus, since we'll stay where we stay regardless of a discount.

If you pre-purchase memory maker (to save $30 in case you do not upgrade to an AP) for the September trip and upgrade to an AP while there, tell the CM at guest services and they will credit the cost of MM towards the cost of the AP. I believe you have to show a receipt (email is fine). Or maybe it is refunded to the original form of payment instead of subtracted from the upgrade cost - whichever it is, you will get the money back. I have not personally done this, but I have read that the MM is refundable when upgrading to AP. When I upgraded to an AP while we were on our trip in January, on the very last day, we did not have MM. But, once we upgraded all of our photopass ride photos showed up in my MDE. It will load all of your photopass photos taken within the last 365 days, and then start aging them off as time goes by. So, if you have been to Disney in the last year, it is an added bonus.

Have you looked into the regular Platinum pass? It's $143 cheaper, but it excludes places outside of the 4 main parks (like golfing, water parks, and ESPN). We aren't big water park fans, so that's what we went with.
