Is Memory Maker the same as the passholder entitlement?

That makes sense, actually. The PhotoPass would be tied to the AP holder- not to the vacation package.

Actually, that doesn't make sense because that's not how the PhotoPass service works. It says right here that if other people are connected to your Friends and Family list and choose to share their photos with you, you can view those photos as well. And if you can view them, then you can purchase and download them:

https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/guest-services/photo-pass-service/

I think this is just another example of phone CMs not knowing an answer and just making one up.

I hope you are right. I think the language you point out can be interpreted in different ways. You probably have to look at the fine print of the actual contract. What you pointed out is marketing language - not legal language. Most everything you purchase will have both the marketing language, which makes it sound great, and legal language, which is dull reading and provides all of the specific rules and exceptions.

If you find out a true answer, it would be great to know.

I know when I had MM and was trying to find out whether I could use it for two trips, I had many CMs tell me I could not. I read the legal language and interpreted the language to mean that I could. I tried it, and it turned out that in fact I could (and I did).

We may just have wait until someone has actually done it to see if it can be done.

I cked with a CM in ticketing as well as I think a CM that was with passholder(?) that I was transferred to. The PP that comes with Gold AP or higher is ONLY for photos that person is in. So if You do single rider or that person is not with you at time of photo, you WILL see it on MDE or PP site if you are all linked on family and friends, but you will NOT be able to download it for free, it will not stay for 365 days either.

I said what if the photopass photog takes a pic of our kids without us in it, and was told it will most likely work if the AP band is the one handed to photographer.
I asked what about if DH(who is next up for renewal) is not with us as he is at convention or working... on some of the trips, and was told they do not believe it will allow download if his MB has not entered the park that day. Therefor again, you will see the pics on MDE but not eligible to download for free.

I hope that they are all incorrect but I don't think so. I did get confirmation of the soft opening 11/1 to 11/5 for Osborne lights for passho;ders though.

Do you know how much it costs to upgrade? Is it the difference in what you paid and the new AP?

I always travel with my group and when we had MM on our last two trips, I am the one who always scanned my band and all pics came from my band, so it is not a big deal for us if only the AP holder's band works for PhotoPass pics.

Yes I did ask the upgrade price and it would be $102, must be done at the gate not online or on the phone.

Another interesting question asked on another thread is what if the AP platinum holder has multiple magic bands activates/assigned to them...can other family members carry one around and use it to scan photos? (Or would it have to be used to get into the park?)

I think we have to wait a bit and hope that Dis'ers will report back.

I wish I could find it in the plethora of threads about the new pass, but I thought someone reported that she upgraded her pass to include to include the photo option and she was able to see and download her mom's photos. I thought she said her mom was her "friend" on MDE. Has anyone that has purchased or upgraded a new AP tried it?

ETA: I'm not tech savvy enough to figure out how to link this, but on this thread, post #10 has info from the Disney website that does say you can download pictures that are shared by friends and family.

ETA one more time: If you go here https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/park-experience-terms-conditions/ and scroll to Disney Photopass benefits for select annual passes, it seems to contradict itself. In one bullet point it says you have the ability to download photos shared by members of your friends and family list. Three bullets down it says the benefit is intended only for the AP guest and downloading photos for the benefit of other guests goes against the terms.

This makes me think they are trying to allow a family to get their photos but not allow someone to 'cheat' by offering a 'sharing' service...you can only download for your own personal use type of thing...

So the animated shots are just part of memory maker, not photo pass right??
No. We have animated magic shots and did not buy MM on the last trip. The people taking your photo have no idea what you bought, or didn't buy. They tag the photos for the magic

I currently have a 4 day hopper purchased. On our trip this up coming week (only 3 more days!!), we will be upgrading to AP's. If we wait till the last day to upgrade, will I be able to download our photos from the first 3 days of the trip, before my ticket becomes an AP? or just from the date the ticket is upgraded?

Not sure but there is really no reason to wait to upgrade
Your AP activation date will be the first day you used the ticket you are upgrading

Every time I have upgraded a ticket, the ap expiration date is from the day I upgrade. While everyone says that's not true, or it was just pixie dust, it has consistently happened to us as well as anyone else that I know (in real life) who has done it. so by waiting, we get a few more days, which we will be utilizing next year.

As long as you aren't surprised if it is the date of first use. That is how they are supposed to do it. Doesn't mean the CM doesn't do it wrong. They do. You just shouldn't count on that

Is there a way to check when your renewal date is?
