is MEARS a nightmare?

Towncars are usually about $80 round trip (with coupon Darian mentioned) and can include a 1/2 hour grocery stop. Most people also tip roughly $10 each way, so figure about $100. Of course, Mears you don't have to have a ressie. If you want to book a towncar now you will have to call and try to do it. Try to call Yourride 866-240-RIDE and see if they can book you in since they receive a lot of praise on this board and Rabbit seems to be wonderful. Or of course there is Tiffany town car 1-888-838-2161or Florida town car services 1-800-525-7246 as well .

Although we've used Mears several times and not had a problem, I'll never use them again. Why? One time, DH flew in to Orlando and went to Bay Hill country club (how he could be so close to WDW and not go there...but...) Mears claimed it was one of their regular routes, so Mears is what he took. Well, an hour later the driver was LOST! When DH came home and told me, although I'm sure they won't get lost going to WDW, when they can get lost on what they say is a "regular" route, I lose confidence! Used Towncars ever since, solo or family trips.

We have used Mears 2 x and have never had any problem. The first time we had a van and I do admit that it was packed in. The next time we had a bus and I found the ride quite fine. Both times I think we only stopped at 1 or 2 resorts (all on WDW property) before our own. No big deal. We plan on using it again next time we go.

Question to anyone who has used Mears with children. I assume they would put you in a bus instead of van if you have young children (4 and 2½). Anyone know for sure? I can't imagine them in the van without some sort of booster/seat! Thanks.

You may want to price a Towncar. Most of them are $80 r/t and often have a $5 coupon. This may be cheaper than Mears for a family and you can get a 30 minute grocery store stop. Mears would be $76 for your family (the baby is stil no cost)
You may want to price it when you go again. It may be cheaper! (And trust me, you will never do Mears again!!) LOL!

Pumbaa - thanks for the info. I will definitely do some research on it. I thought I looked into a Towncar before and it said we could only have 3 passengers if we needed a car seat, but I'll check again...

Can you get off the Mears shuttle/bus at ANY stop? I'm traveling down on Christmas day a few hours before the rest of my party (I decided to go just today) so I'm in no REAL hurry to go anywhere - and don't need to go anywhere special. I was thinking I could go to any resort (we're staying at BWV), have them hold my bag and I could go to the Marketplace to shop/eat/drink (I always seem to make a friend ar whatever bar I stop to have a beer).

I'd pretty much get off at any resort (ok, maybe not the All Stars).

Any help/advice is appreciated.

We used Mears this year and had absolutely no problem. The driver asked us where we were going and directed us to his bus. We went directly to all-stars...no stops at any other resorts. We also used them for transportation to Universal and back and they were great.

At least Mears is reliable. I have tried to use Yourride three times. The first 2 times were great! The third time they never showed up(& they never responded to my e-mail or personal message on this board). I've used Mears 3 times & they have always showed up on time. Cost & reliabilty far out way the unreliable convenience of a towncar.

I used Mears in May 1999. For our trip home, Mears was a no show. We arrived at the waiting spot at CBR and it was packed with people. Turned out some of them had been standing there over an hour. We waited about 30 minutes more and a Disney bus pulled up and took us. We were fine for our flight, but some of the longer waiting people missed their flights. It was a nightmare!!!!

Our only previous trip to WDW included the Mears shuttle in the package. After getting off of the plane, we were herded out to the bus area with about 150 people. We stood there, choking on fumes and sandwiched like sardines, for almost an hour...in the August heat! Finally, we were crammed onto a van (our luggage was put in another vehicle...we just prayed we would see it again) then headed out on our forced sight-seeing tour. We arrived at CBR almost 3 HOURS after our plane landed. This time, we have booked Yourride and are looking forward to our own private vehicle with a convenient grocery store stop. There was no way I was doing Mears again, especially since our 3 year old DS will be with us.
