Is Matterhorn still really rough?

I remember in 2019 or 2018 or something that it was really rough, like a number of bumps that just jolt right to your bones and brain. Then I think it went through a really long refurb (like months). Has the track been improved at all to be a little smoother, or was that long refurb structural/cosmetic work?

Also, anyone know if it’s usually had a single rider lately (last week or so reports).

In my opinion, yes- still rough. I'm also over 6' tall so could be a factor too. Feels like I'm sitting in a flat bathtub thrown down a mountain.
I don’t mind sudden “rough” direction changes and stuff, just previously it felt like multiple segments of the track were “uneven” at connection points or something and were very rough impact bumps. Still like that?

I think it's slightly better than before, not as many hard jolts. Maybe try sitting in the front car as the back/2nd car will throw you around a bit more down drops.

I think the track is considerably better. It’s still very jarring in change of directions, but no more “bumps” in the track which would just jolt right to your brain. I still “pre-gamed” with some Advil, lol.

I also absolutely think the jarring nature of it is by design, either because of the tight corners or to your the thrill factor. You can see some of the inside wheels don’t make contract with the rails at all times, looked to be a quarter inch to half an inch of room. This would let the cars shift lateral (left right) when going into corners until the appropriate wheels (depending on the corner direction) makes contact with the rails.

Either old shoddy tolerances when maybe the track was less well aligned between segments, or absolutely to up the thrown left and right feeling as you under a curve.

Thriller for sure, less painful than I remembered from a couple years ago. Single rider was ~10 minute wait when attraction had a 40 min standby,

Meant to simulate real bobsleds..... so no, not smooth at all ! Lots of jarring and jolts, etc. Don't like the new seating, not as much room. You should sit forward a bit, and yes, the front seat is best.
Love the Matterhorn !

It’s way too rough for me. I come off it with all kinds of pains. Sadly, it’s just one of those rides I really can’t do anymore.

How about in comparison to the long overdue for a track replacement that is MK's Space Mountain?

Matterhorn at DL feels very similar to the brain shake-up of MK's Space Mountain, at least for our family. We actually disembarked MK Space Mountain and commented on how it felt like Matterhorn! Wasn't expecting that at all!

It is still rough.

And I am 5'1" so although I am no where near as squished as @Wesley815, I still feel those jolts and bumps in the bathtub.

@Dory92130, you are absolutely on the money. Left is a rougher ride than the right.

@LukeJ, Expedition Everest is 100x's better than Matterhorn. Although I don't hate Matterhorn, it just cannot compare to the theming and overall thrill ride of EE. (even with Disco Yeti)

@JoelB, similar to SM at WDW. Still give the edge to Matterhorn on roughness if you are on the left side boarding area.

Yeah, I believe the vehicles for Magic Mt at WDW is nearly the same version as Matterhorn -- at least it feels like it! The jolting on Magic Mt is more side-to-side than the drop jolts of matterhorn.

It's still rough by today's standards. It's one of the no go rides for my daughter who has a lower back problem. That ride can take her out for a couple day. If you can ride carnival rides without issue, you'll probably be okay.

I can't even say Matterhorn and Expedtion Everst in the same sentence! :) No way to even compare those. One is amazing, the other is a rattle trap.

The last time I was in DL I skipped Matterhorn. I don't mind the side to side roughness, it's that bump in the road crashing jolt that is so hard on the back and brain. But you're saying it had a little rehab and new cars? Maybe I will have to try the right side once. Maybe.

And yes, Space Mountain WDW is such a disappointment. Rough and just not as cool or fun as DL Space Mountain.
