Is Magnavox still a good reliable brand?

I know they were one of the top brands in the 80s and 90s. But it seems like everything has went downhill in quality since then. Are they still good or is there a new brand that's better?

I didn’t even know they were still in business. The TV game has changed so much in a relatively short span of time.

It all depends on what you're buying. TVs I like Samsung. Vizio, LG, and Sony are also good names. Middle of the pack are Toshiba and Insignia. "Lower End" you'll see Hisense, Amazon, and Roku.

The last Magnavox I owned was a boom box in 1986.

8 D batteries and was as heavy as… nothing you’ve every carried around town for miles on a regular basis.

It was an instant party when we wanted though 🤣 Highly recommended!

I bought a Magnavox digital clock radio about 2 years ago to replace my ancient Sony. Just this week the Magnavox has stopped performing a few features. So there's that...

Just buy electronics at Costco where you get a free extended warranty.

Yes, this is what I did when shopping for a new laptop. Someone here recommended Costco for that. It might have even been you! :thumbsup2 They have a 6-month return policy and a 2 year free extended warranty. I bought another two years after that as that's when my other laptops tended to break.

My previous laptop, I bought at Best Buy which has a return policy of only 14 days. The laptop's touchscreen mouse broke on Day 15. :badpc: Never buying from there again!

With electronic equipment you really have to factor in what happens when it breaks. Will the company even have replacement parts? Will eBay have them so someone else can put the part in. What is the likelihood that something WILL break down easily? Will the company even be in business? What is their customer service like?

Like others said, I didn't even know Magnavox was even in business as they currently don't have a reputation anymore.

One Black Friday, I bought a Goldstar DVD player at a great price. It still works, but finding a universal remote that works with it is hard, as it's such an off-brand that most remotes don't include.

Maybe try LG. Goldstar became LG in the mid 90's.

I also have not heard of Magnavox in a long time. We have a 24 “ Insignia smart tv and really like it.

You can buy electronics with the Magnavox name on it, but I'm not sure they actually make any of the products they sell since they were purchased by Phillips in 1975.

I have a clock radio from magnavox I bought for my dorm room in college in 1999 and it still works perfectly today on my night stand. I will be sad when it dies.

Honestly, I was surprised to see the Magnavox name too.

This is what I was looking at.

OMG! What a blast from the past. :teleport:

I remember these boomboxes. That style was very popular back when CDs were popular. :music: I don't know about the Magnavox brand specifically was popular for these. I recall even back then that Sony was popular.

This is sold by a third party reseller. He probably came across an old warehouse or storage unit that had a stock of these. If they were kept in a moisture control environment, probably all the metal parts still work. You might have to replace the rubber belt right away that turns the CDs as rubber wears out over time. It shouldn't be hard to get a generic one if you need it.

However, since Amazon ships this item, you will get all the return protections and the extended return date that Amazon offers for it's own products. I'd buy the 3 year protection for $5.99. Then if it craps out, you will likely get your money back as they can't replace any parts. (I did that with a small desktop fan. I bought the 2 year protection. The motor would burn out just before the two years are up. The extended protection would return my money and I'd just buy a new one. Did that a couple times until I found a better fan.)
