Is "Magic My Way" really going to save me money?

I have been trying to wade through the many options of this new "Magic My Way" plan and can't help but think that I will end up paying more for the "options" that were always include in my tickets. This seems to be true expecially for trips shorter than 7 days. What really bothers me is that I now have to pay to "Park Hop" and also to have unused days not expire. Has anyone done a price comparison between the old packages and the new plan? Will discounts still be offered or are the days of the 7 for 4 (or 5) package deals gone forever? We were planning on a short trip the beginning of December since I don't want to pull my 6th grader out of school too long.

For my family, these tickets will not save us any money. We never go for more than 7 days. I'm not crazy about having to pay extra for tickets that don't expire.

For my family, these tickets will not save us any money. We are only going to be in the parks for 4 days this year and will spend the rest of our time at US/IOA. I've got an AP, so I could not do the pkg. anyway since "all members of your party" must have the same ticket. And, I've earned enough disney visa reward dollars that I was able to get my two DS's tickets free. DH had 4 days left on his hopper from last year. I went ahead and purchased my boys park hoppers at my local disney store in December before they took them away.

So for our family, it was not going to save us any money. I think it all depends on the number of days you are going.

What Disney seems to trying to do is get those people who normally stay 6-7 nights to stay longer. In the past people might have wanted to stay longer, but couldn't afford to because the longer tickets were pricey. Now difference between a 5 day MYW ticket with hopper and a 10 day ticket wit hopper is like $11. There is obviously a big difference between a family of 4 paying $400 more for the tickets to stay longer and $44 more.

You are correct though. The people you don't benifit from the MYW tickets are those who stay 5 days or less.

This will save some people money and cost others more.

For us, we never used the "never expire" option....so now I don't have to pay for something I didn't use anyway! We took trips where we never used pluses - I think a lot of people traveling when the weather is cold didn't find waterparks attractive - now I'll only pay for pluses when I will use enough to make a difference! Others never park hopped - so now they don't have to pay for it.

If you are going to add "never expire" you seem to be best off buying the 10 day tickets. They will save you money over ten days worth of the old hoppers. But if you choose not to tie up that much money in tickets, and take short trips, this may nt be a great deal.

Who knows about the package discounts offered....I would doubt with attendance as high as its been that a new 7 for 4 package was in the works - that was a one time deal (that they did twice) and really startled old timers.

And WOW, wasn't 7 for 4, or even 7 for 5, a great deal??!! We got one of those 7 for 4 ones while renovating our house, and it was such a great stay. But now no need to discount, as they'll fill the rooms without such discounts this year.

For anyone interested, Deb's AllEarsNet.com has a great Ticket Price Comparison chart :teacher: which you can access by using that link. Very illustrative.

Do you think this is because of the celebration that starts in May?

I don't see how staying longer can save money. You still have to figure in hotel expenses, food, and miscellaneous expenses.

I priced out some different packages against my annual pass and rack rates. It was still less expensive pricing everything individually. The meal plan isn't a fantastic bargain either. I compared menus to Disney's Meal plan and I could still eat for less on my own.

I was just on the Disney World site, playing around with the MYW packages... Check it out!

I disagree that it can't save you money. Even if you never go for more than 7 days, buy a 10 day no expire hopper, and with your plusses and unused days, you'll have the tickets for your next vacation. That's what we're going to do.

We usually go 2-3 times a year so an annual pass saves us the most money. And we don't have to worry about paying for park hopping.

I compared just the ticket price to the 5 day PHP I purchased from Hotwire. The new discounted tickets were a lot more expensive than the tickets I got from Hotwire a few months ago.

It will save us money because we bought UPH tickets and that would have been 503 this trip and our tickets will be 295. Or, 494 and two separate reservations to knock off the first night of the UPH. We use the water parks and Disney Quest so we never used park hoppers because it was more expensive to visit Quest. It will save us a lot of money on tickets.

On longer stays you are not in commonado mode as I call it. You can go freely and enjoy your resort and maybe go about 4 to enjoy park and have a great dinner in the park. Or if we do AK come back and enjoy the resort. We have always stayed 10 to 13 nights and this gets $$$$$$. I don't think I will be affected as much, as a dvc owner since oct 2003  I am lovin it. One monthly payment and yearly dues. I will buy the AP's(I am currently an AP holder)and love the new discount!!!!

The new MYW pkgs will not save us any money because we have a code for our room, and with the pkgs we would be paying rack rates for the rooms. Not worth it even with the dining option. I was very interested in the dining option, but I am not willing to pay extra on the room, its to big of a discount.

I agree. I'd have to save 1494 on food with the dining package to beat the room savings...assuming there will be codes for our trip.

armomof3lvsdisney,

I am starting to agree with all of you. I was one of the ones that thought that the dinning would be a great add on to the package and would save me money. However that is before I found out that you can only make a 8 night/7 day reservation with the new packages.

This is what I must take in consideration:

1. The MY Way packages are ALL rate rates - who pays rake rates? I'd rather book a AAA rate now and wait for a better rate code later (going in July/August quoted $84 for Value and $126 for moderate) or deal with my DH at this convention at $99 for Coronado Springs - I would rather stay at Caribbean Beach.

2. You can buy the tickets cheaper at other places - (i.e. AAA, Hotwire, and many other online places - Hotwire is free shipping and AAA you can walk in and get). Disney's tickets are usually the most expensive tickets. Also you can buy the tickets one by one at other outlets.

3. When you book packages - you can only get that amount in tickets (according to the CM I spoke to) - but that doesn't sound right to me!

4. It seems this MY WAY PACKAGE is just like the Dream Makers meaning that it is only convenient at best - it doesn't save you any money especially if you don't mind buying your tickets at other outlets - its just easier to have everything at one place and pay one vendor - other than that - I'm not liking these packages - but I will admitt that it is much cheaper than the Dream Maker Package - that forced you to pay for things some people wouldn't normally pay for (i.e. water parks, DisneyQuest, etc.)!
