Is magic kingdom worth going to?

Well, now I feel bad for writing what could be construed as a nasty post, so I'll answer your new questions:

any day is like the other i'm guessing.

No, some are much more busy than others. The time periods you've chosen are actually fairly low in crowds.

how do you get the fast pass and what is the extra cost for that?

There is no extra cost, fastpasses are free with your ticket. You get them by going up the to fastpass distribution center outside the entrance to certain rides (usually the ones that are high volume). You put your ticket into the machine and a pass will spit out giving you an time period later in the day when you can return to that ride and get into a much shorter line. These are at all 4 Disney parks, not just the MK.

also can you leave and come back?

With any ticket you are permitted to leave the park and come back to the same park later in the day. However, if you want to leave one park and go to another Disney park, you will need "park hopper" tickets.

My trolldar is completely silent with the OP. Sounds only like they are coming here as their very first source of info for Disney, which is why I recommended a glance at a guide where all of the basic questions are answered already.

I have heard so many mixed reviews about magic kingdom that i don't know what to do go or not go???? I heard the lines are always too longs, you don't get too see half the stuff if you go for just one day. then on the other hand i hear you need to at least experience it. Also is fantasy land part of magic kingdom and is it the same ticket to get into each or do you need seperate tickets? thanks for your help :)

Gasp. Cannot even comprehend not going to MK!!

Fastpass do not cost any thing, they are included in the price of your ticket. You basically walk up to the fastpass dispenser, insert your ticket and a pass will pop out. the pass has a return time on it and that's the time you return to the attraction. Oh don't forget to take your park ticket. I have seen people walk away and forget to take their tickets. ;)

You can leave and return as many times as you wish to the same park. If you wish to leave and go to a totally different park on the same day you must purchase the park hopper option

So if you go to MK on lets say a monday. You can enter and leave MK as many times as you want but if you wish to visit Epcot on the same Monday (known as hopping) your tickets must have the "park hopper" option.

Ok so with all things said anywone want to offer some helpful hints to better enjoy mk? I am so excited. we were not sure if we should go to to mk because we were told it's not worth it and we are so worried if we don't go we will regret it that that is why we decide we are going no matter what. i agree it is the magic and the atmosphere not the rides so much!

Basic guide books such as The Unofficial Guide are chock-full of the kind of info you're looking for. :goodvibes

Albeit a very unusual question, I trust your trolldar :teeth:

"...No, some are much more busy than others. The time periods you've chosen are actually fairly low in crowds..."

wouldn't the later part of her trip be much more crowded due to spring break?

The person who told you "it's not worth it" is probably not your best source of information about WDW in general and MK in specific. :scratchin :rolleyes2
just sayin' ;)

Maybe start with this map of Magic Kingdom:

thank you all for your adivce and help. We will definetly be experiencing it this time around. we are going march 3-16. any day is like the other i'm guessing. how do you get the fast pass and what is the extra cost for that? also can you leave and come back?

Start here with easywdw crowd calendar for March. Different parks are recommended on different days. Josh goes into detail explaining why one park is preferred over another. With two weeks at WDW you will have plenty of time to see and do a good amount of things.

A pp mentioned spring break. The crowd calendar shows lower crowds your first week and higher crowds the second. But with a good plan in place - getting to the park in time for rope drop, using fastpass, and other things you'll learn about if you spend much time here at the DIS - you'll do great.

Have a magical trip!

I saw someone comment in a previous post "if you want rides go to Universal." The reason I posted this comment is because Disney, especially the Magic Kingdom, is about so much more than rides and lines. The Magic of Disney truly begins in the Magic Kingdom. There is so much to see and do in that one place that never involves a line nor is the enjoyment determined by the number of people there. If you are new to Disney or a true believer in the magic and joy Disney has to offer, definitely go to the Magic Kingdom. Take your time and walk around and experience all there is to do there. With or without children, it is truly a magical place.

I'll admit to being a total sap, but this totally made me tear up. We are going to Disney World for 2 days in October, our first trip, and spending both days at MK. I know we can't possibly do everything Disney has to offer in 2 days, but I have questioned not going to any of the other parks. But this is why we are focusing on MK!

Get the unofficial guide. There is ALOT of info i it and can be a little over whelming. But, ithas everything you will need to get you going in the right direction.
Also..don't try to do it all in one day. Do..enjoy your trip. Smell the roses, watch the fire works, soak in the MAGIC!

With a 7 year old princess, ABSOLUTELY!

To be honest, traveling as an adult, the MK was a half day park with fastpasses. If you were traveling solo or even with another adult and only had 1-2 days there, then I would say skip it or at a minimum get a park hopper so you could go somewhere else that day as well.

I know I go against the Disboards grain, but MK is actually my least favorite park. However, with a child, a long trip, and as first-timers, the MK is an absolute MUST DO!!! And at least 1 full day if not more if you can plan it.

OP, you should do a lot of reading, Disney.com, Allearsnet.com, Mousesavers.com. You can pick few books as suggested already. Order Disney planing DVD, it is free and will give you some ideas.
Prepare yourself that you will experience lines and you will need some planing to avoid some of them. For first timer it will not be a relaxing going with a flow trip, you will need a plan. Sign up for Touring Plans, there is a small fee but you can create a plan which should help.
MK is obviously worth it but you need to be prepared, otherwise you will see only long lines and will not enjoy.
You have a lot of time before your trip, so when you get some basic info get here and ask questions about particular rides and more detailed planing. It is difficult for us to give you any advises now except read, read and read.:)

Be there at rope drop, you will get so much done in the first 2 hours. Fast pass is free with your ticket. Don't do BBB during this prime time first 2 hours do it after lunch when the crowds start to come in.

Go to MK as close to the first of your trip with your dates starting at March 3rd. Your first week will be a lot less crowded then the second week. Spring break crowds will start arriving the weekend of March 9th. We have gone both weeks many times. Southern schools get out the 2nd week in March. Tuesday and Wednesday are usually both great days at Magic Kingdom.

I can't express rope drop enough if crowds and lines are your concern be there at least 15 minutes prior to the park opening. We start in Fantasyland at Winnie the Pooh and make our way around to Splash Mountain and Big Thunder then we go to Pirate area before lunch. We then fast pass Tomorrowland Space and Buzz for the afternoon or we go back another morning... Tomorrowland Speedway and Astro orbitor do not offer fast pass.

So much to plan and learn... Have fun!!!! Your going to have a great time! Early March is a great time to go! :)

Translation for a newbie: "rope drop" means the time the park opens in the morning. People start arriving a while before the park opens. You go through a bag check, and then stand by the gates. At the Magic Kingdom. they put on a show right before they open the park and then let everyone in.

Don't attack me for this...but MK is definitely not my favorite, or my "must-do" park if I could only pick one. I'm an Epcot-phile all the way. Love the countries, love the fireworks show, love walking around and looking at everything.
However, I say that as somebody who has taken numerous trips over the years. On a first trip, MK is most definitely worth going to. I also might have a different opinion if I were going with a 7 year old. Right now, its just me and my BF.
They'll have a new castle projection show by the time you go, and I don't know much about it. However, if it is anything like the Magic, Memories and You show I definitely recommend you see it. That show was beautifully done, and the perfect way to end a day at MK. Also, the fireworks are right after that, and those are always nice too.
The one thing that is drawing me to have MK be a must do on my next trip after our November one is the new Fantasyland. OP, this is probably going to be a big draw for you with a 7 yo girl. Look up the new Storytime with Belle. If your DD likes to get in on the action and is a princess fan this would probably be a great thing to see.
Really one of the big draws of MK is that it has something for everybody. With different themed lands and lots of rides the whole family can enjoy. So, take a look at some in depth info about it, pull up a park map, and most of all, enjoy your trip. :goodvibes

MK is my favorite Disney World park. We spend more time there than any other but it all depends on your family. With little kids its a must and some of my favorite rides are there.

OP please buy a guide it will make your life so much easier and you will get information in the right order. This board is full of WDW lovers that take trips very often the information for first timer is going to be overwhelming and confusing. Once you read one guide come back with your questions it will make more sense and it will much easier to plan your trip that way.
