Me, my husband, and my 2 kids(12 and 15) have never been to disney. We are finally going in July! Since we've never been to Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom should we still go even though there older? Is there some stuff for them to do? I really want to visit all of disney so was planning to go to these 2 parks but some people said it was for young children?

Yes - Magic Kingdom is too childish
NO - Animal Kingdom is NOT too childish

You are never, never, never, never, never, never, never to old for any park at Disney. Everyone becomes a kid when walking into a Disney park. If you have never been you will see when you get there. Plan to go to both parks, Ak can be done in one day, but you may want two days for MK.

You are never too old for the MK! Never, ever, ever! Go and enjoy. Your kids are the perfect age to enjoy most everything except Toontown. AK is also a lot of fun if you take your time and look into the corners, so to speak. Get a good guide book (I recommend The Unofficial Guide as it rates the rides by age groups), sit down with the family and do a little planning, and enjoy your trip! :wizard:

I disagree, I think your family would enjoy MK and if you have never been how can you do Disney and not do the MK? You must go, it is the crown jewel of the parks!

AK and MK still rock, no matter what your age! Sure, they have rides for the younger kids, but they also have attractions for the older ones, as well. Check out the unofficial guide for ratings on each ride to help you decide what you want to focus your trip on.

MK has those 3 mountains to ride. We do the mountains each visit, if possible. Splash, BTMR, and Space are so awesome!

And, don't forget about EE at AK!

OKAY, took my DMIL - 83 yrs old for her first time ever to WDW in January....she loved all 4 parks! You don't have to do the character breakfasts, lunches, or dinners...but if it's their first time ever...I'd make sure they see it all.....leave it up to them to choose....if you have hopper passes and they don 't care for MK or AK you can go to another park!

I'm 17 years old and Magic Kingdom is my favorite park! Yes, Fantasyland is childish, but even "goth" kids ride the rides there. It doesn't matter how old you are, the second you get there you won't worry about being "too old." All of you will want to ride everything as a family. All the stuff you hear about families wanting being together is real, at least for my family. But then again, it could just be from tradition. Anywayz, don't worry about the age thing and just try it out. I promise everyone will like it. :thumbsup2

uuummmm..I'm 27 and don't think that any of the Disney parks are too childish, especially not the MK.

My kids are 15 & 13 and love all the disney parks, part of the fun is not having to be cool 24/7 :cool1:

The MK is definately not too childish. It is my absolute favorite. Sure, I'm 31 years old and Dumbo is still the ride I want to ride first, but that's what Disney is all about :rotfl:
Seriously though, there are still plenty of rides older kids would like too. The mountains are all great. Not like Six Flags type coasters but still very good because of all the theming. Also, I love Buzz, even though I'm terrible at it. So I can imagine that 2 kids who may have some video game expertise will really like it.
Also, AK is great, especially now with EE. It is definately suited tothe older crowd.
Hopefully they will surprise you and themselves with how much the love the Magic :wizard: .
Congrats and enjoy your families firt trip to the World!! :cheer2:

No, neither park is too childish. Yes, there are some rides in MK, very few, for younger children, but the rest you and your family are going to love. Oh, and to top your day off at MK..have a caramel apple from the main street bakery when you are leaving. They make the caramel homemade and they are fantastic.

AK..really don't know how someone could say that is too childish, unless they have never been there. Definately a great park and not to be missed. Plan dinner that night at AKL to enhance the experience and take one last look at the animals on the savannah.

My daughter (13) says:

"There are parts of the Magic Kingdom that are very kiddie, but there are other parts that are cool." princess:

Let me explain... (She IS 13 and prone to behaving as an adolescent)

Some of the rides are VERY childish (dumbo's ride, aladdin's magic carpets, astro orbiter, etc), however there is the quintessential "Space Mountain," The Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and others that are NOT to be missed. Granted, these are NOT thrill rides... You are there for the theming and ambiance.

I agree with previous posters that being at the MK is infectious with child-like behavior. I think you will enjoy it. :teeth:

You are never too old for Magic Kingdom. Especially on your first visit. It really is a not to be missed park at least once. Animal Kingom is great also.

I think it depends on the attitude of your kids. Only you can judge that. I will tell you I went for the first time last year at 31 and MK is my absolute favorite park. There are a lot of kid rides but we enjoyed all of it kid rides and adult rides. We went to MK our 4th day there and when I saw the castle is when it really hit me-I am at Disney! princess: I think if your kids are really into it they will enjoy all the parks. You may spend less time at MK but I wouldnt miss it!

Space Mountain is my favorite ride in the world and it is in MK. :scared1:

Well, I guess that's your opinion as was the first response mine. I have 2 boys ages 8 and 11 and they don't even want to go to MK when we go. I don't blame them. I suppose if you are staying 10 days at the parks you might want to go and see the refurbishment of POTC and watch Philharmagic again. But, IMO, there is SO much for children the OP's kids' ages to see and do at the other 3 parks (not to mention and water parks and Disneyquest) that they would probably find MK too childish. Let me restate my original response:
If you've never been to MK then you'll probably want to go to ride Splash, Space, and Thunder Mountain. Don't miss Mickey's Philharmagic, expecially if you are a fan of the movies. Animal Kingdom is FILLED with fun stiff to do and see. My boys LOVE it!

I would say since this is your first visit, don't skip MK because of what you might have heard... go and decide for yourself! We just went last month and my older sons, ages 16 and almost 13, enjoyed all the parks. Sure, we skipped Dumbo and Toontown, and maybe Winnie the Pooh wasn't super exciting for them, but they got into the spirit and let themselves just enjoy everything. Like another poster said, it's great to see your kids not worry about being cool for a few days!

no neither is childish imo as though they cater to kids only. i think any age enjoys them due to different things ie the little kids miss the attention to detail an adult will be amazed at. Mk has thrill type rides,as does AK and animals don't have an "age limit". no offense to any posters but i really feel sorry for kids who are so jaded by the time they reach their preteens-teens they are " past" those parks. imagination imo should last a life time :confused3

Too young...too old????? I can't even wrap my brain around that. I am 58 years old, have traveled solo for the past 5 years and I wouldn't miss MK for anything. There's Pirates, Tiki Birds, Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, Hall of the Presidents, Country Bear Jamboree, Haunted Mansion, Small World (classic), Peter Pans Flight (classic) Carousel of Progress (yet, another classic) and Space Mountain, just to name a few.

The Castle view, the monorail, Main Street, the street shows and parades and Wishes (fireworks). Even many of the "kids" ones are frequented by us adults that refuse to grow up.

Just can't figure it out! :confused3 :confused3 :confused3
