Is Lego BrickMaster Subscription Worth it?

My DS (7) is really getting into legos all of a sudden. We get the free lego magazine and I saw the add for the BrickMaster where for $39.99 you get 6 surprise lego products plus the brickmaster magazine and some coupons. Are these lego sets good ones? I am guessing they are the very small sets. What kind of sets have people gotten who are members? Just wondering if this is worth doing as part of a Christmas present. He loves getting mail so that in itself would be fun for him. Any advice would be appreciated!

Hello,

I got it for my son last year for Christmas and he can't wait for his new set to arrive every 2 months. While it may seem a little expensive, the small sets usually are around 30 to 80 pieces each. They are fun for kids to play with and they usually come from some of the popular sets like Star Wars and Bionicle. I wish I would have ordered it sooner for him. The coupons that it comes with are a $5 off $20 purchase and 1 free admission to Legoland in California. Hope this helps in your decision.

I subscribed my 8 year old DS. He loves it. The sets you get are small. Approximately 80 piece sets. The catalogs will show you the upcoming mailing. He received 2-$5.00 off coupons for online orders only, plus a free childs hopper ticket to Lego Land in California. I think the sets he received so far are a couple of trucks, and a couple of star wars. This last one we just received was a bionicle. But according to him it should have been a star wars as well. He LOVES getting mail too, and the sets, even though small, are exclusive. He likes "window shopping" the catalogs as well, and reading the comic book section that is enclosed.

I'm so glad you asked about this, I have wondered the same thing. DS 10 has asked for a subscription for Christmas. I wonder how soon it should be ordered so that it starts around Christmas, and how to present it as a gift? Any ideas?

I too, was getting the big push for this last week. Since we are planning to go to Legoland, it would be worth it. Now, do we get one each for the boys?

We got it for the oldest - he loved it.

If you sign up for e-mails from lego sometimes they will send you a coupons good for anything on the site - they work for the brickmaster club too! I was able to get it for $5 off. Yeah!

The only problem I had was that I signed up in December about a week before Christmas and he got two sets in January about a week apart. The November/December Set and the January/February Set. So if planning for Christmas I'd order in the beginning of November, and hopefully, you'll have the first set in time to put under the tree and then the next set will arrive in January as it should.

That's so funny - I was just on their site today looking at the price because my son wants to get it renewed for Christmas. We got it for him last year (he's 10 and into all things Lego) and he has really loved it all year long.

I did the same as the PP - signed up in around November and when the first kit came, I put it away for Christmas with the magazine and then wrapped those up as part of his gift.

Hey! My little Lego lover didn't receive a bionicle yet. Is this the Sept/Oct one? When did you receive it?

thanks. I debated last year and didnt do it. I will try and remember to do it in nov so it arrives from christmas.. is there shipping?

I'm in the KC area and my son got his yesterday. He has been checking the mail for it everyday for the last month - two months between deliveries is oh so hard for the 9 year lego addict!

Thanks for all the responses everyone! I may just have to sign up in Nov. I am sure he would love it. My DH on the other hand will probably hate it. Nothing like stepping on a little lego piece in the dark! Am I reading it right that it really is just the $39.95 for the whole year subscription and then you pay the $6.95 or so for shipping each time? I guess that ends up begin a little over $80 total. It's nice that it would continue the whole year though. Something he could look forward to!

My DS6 just received a lego set today in the mail from the club! He LOVES it when those boxes come - he can't wait to see what will be inside! He is an extreme lego fanatic and can now build even very difficult sets on his own. We started him on legos years ago for fine motor skills and it has worked out great. I don't think you will be disappointed.

We bought my DS 7 this for christmas last year. He LOVES it!!! He waits for the next one to come like crazy. I wish they had different levels of the Brickmaster subscription. I would gladly pay a little more so that he could receive a Lego pack every month instead of every other month. He has been waiting for one to come for at least a week now. It is like the gift that keeps giving. I liked it because both my kids receive so much at Christmas and this is spread out over the year. I also ordered it so I would have the first installment to wrap for under the tree. I am also thinking about the advent calendar for this year, but I guess that would be an early gift.

Last year I paid $39.99 plus $6.95(one time) for shipping. Well worth it when I think of things I paid more for that are now at the bottom of the toy box.

We ordered this last year before we took at trip to Calfornia just to get the coupon for one free child admission for Legoland. If I remember correctly you also got coupons in the lego magazine that came with the kit each month for a free childs admission with a paid adult. I have 3 kids so we only had to pay for 2 adult tickets, all the kids were free.
