Is Kona worth it?

I have all of my ADR's ready for our trip in early October. The first day, we will be at MK and it is an extra magic day. I have a ressie at Kona for 5:20pm. I am just wondering is it worth leaving the MK to eat there and head back for SpectroMagic? I can get into The Crystal Palace that day, but my 9 year old really wanted Kona since we have never been there. I need advice!!:confused3

In my opinion, Kona is great and worth a trip. The resort monorail also assures it will be fairly easy to get from MK to Poly.

That said, it is a hassle to leave and re-enter a park for any reason. Rounding up the family, waiting for and getting on and off the monorail, re-checking bags and re-scanning tickets at the park can all eat up time. If you're trying to maximize park time, I'd say drop Kona. But, if you're not worried about time and it'll be fairly easy for you to travel over to Poly, I say do it. The food is pretty tasty!

I would keep Kona. It was the best meal of our last trip. Plus, I love the atmoshphere of the poly. It's a nice break to get away from the crowds for awhile.

I agree, and would only go to Kona after being done at MK for the day. Going back and forth takes a lot bigger chunk of time than you realize.

I would say to keep Kona Cafe, the food is really good and with the monorail it is pretty easy to get there and back. It is a bit of a hassle with getting back into the park, just as someone already said, but to us it would be worth it.

Stick with Kona. It is worth it.... plus in my opinion, CP dinner is not that great anymore. Love the breakfast there, but dinner not so much.

Kona's dinner is wayyyyyyyyyyyy better than CP's dinner. I've had both. Kona is one of my must-do's. The bread and butter they serve there is worth going just for that!!!

It is absolutely worth it and not that much trouble at all. In fact, I would argue it is a nice break in your day, a chance to recharge your batteries.

The resort monorail is an easy trip, as is the resort ferry. Also if you don't mind a 5 minute walk you can even take the Express monorail to the TTC and walk to Kona.

We always enjoy are meal at Kona. The fabulous bread and butter is worth the trip alone. To top it off, the Polynesian is a beautiful resort and well worth the visit.

We are planning to do the same thing on December 30, they have Extra Magic Hours in the evening until 3:00am so we plan to leave (unless there is any threat of the park closing which is always possible) and take the raft boat to Trail's End in the Wilderness area, have a relaxing dinner and recharge our batteries and head back for the long haul into the night.

I just don't find the sit-down restaurants in MK all that great. Kona is another great choice. We have also eaten there and it is another favorite. You feel like you are in Hawaii for a while.

I love taking a break from the parks to go to a monorail resort for a meal.

If it were me, I would keep Kona. The food and service is good, and as I said it's nice to have a break from the parks.

I would plan on around 2 hours including transporation time and eating. More if you want to explore the Poly.

Okay, I think Kona it is! I have an early dinner ressie so that we can be back for Spectromagic. I would probably feel a little more stressed about it if we didn't have extra magic hours. I keep reminding myself that this is a vacation and I shouldn't be so super stressed about our schedule. Thanks for all the helpful advice!;)

I would definitely keep it! Yes, you have to leave the park, but you just have to hop on the monorail. And that might be fun!

Leaving the park and heading back in after dinner takes a lot of time, way more than you might think. That being said, we really enjoyed Kona for lunch on our last visit. I still think about those fish tacos.

Kona is one of our favorites and being a couple stops down on the monorail couldn't be easier

We ate at both places on our trip in Aug. and Kona was by far our favorite dinner. The kids both loved it and the food was fabulous! I had the noodle dish with shrimp and it was wonderful. DDs and DH had steak and said they were also wonderful. Make sure to save room for Desert, my kids had Kona Cones and loved them!!!

If you don't mind the time it takes, it is nice to escape MK for a couple hours. We thought Kona was definately the best meal we had on our trip in June.

YES! Kona was one of my absolute favorite meals when we were there a couple weeks ago. I had the stir-fried asian noodles from the lunch menu and still think about how good the dish was.

It may be a bit of a hassle to get to, but I found it was nowhere as bad as it could be thanks to being on that monorail route.
