that I love when my cube neighbor is sick (and I mean with a cold, stomach bug, etc. not meaning anything life threatening). It means that she is either not here or is in a sullen mood and very quiet, which in turn means that I get peace and quiet and can actually get a good amount of work done.

The only downfall of this is is she is out of the office sick then I have to hear her when she comes back explain to every single person she sees or talks to on the phone in detail why she was out sick.

Oh my, sounds like you are stuck in cube hades. My condolences, and yes, it is a little bit wicked, but enjoy the silence anyway.

No. Enjoy your peace and quiet while you can. :goodvibes

Who invented cubes anyways? Hate them!

:rotfl2: they are lurking everywhere, no matter what company...we have several here..and good grief...love when they are not here...:cloud9: but when they return,--that is when we have to pay the piper and listen to every single boring, useless, moronic and unfunny detail about their episode... I feel your pain...

OMG!! I said this very same thing today! But they always come back.

Our resident loudmouth is out for a week. We are all in heaven. This guy cannot answer a phone without shouting. How he doesn't lose his voice is beyond me. We've gone to HR but it turns out you can't do anything about it. So, we mock him. That hasn't worked either but it sure does release tension.

My one co-worker and I mock my cube neighbor all the time. I have a few other threads about her. I really can't stand her.

I so hear ya! I am in cube hades! I'm in a "cube triangle" and one co-worker constantly whistles or sings (out of tune) every second of the day. The other is constantly complaining about how much her job sucks. Either on the phone to someone else, or just talking out loud to herself.

I so feel your pain. Enjoy the silence while you can!

DEFINITELY NOT!!

You just reminded me of my old office where the girl that sat in the cube behind me would drive me NUTS! She would only speak loudly when she was on the phone and that was ALL DAY L O N G! My favorite times were when she was out or on the road. LOL Don't feel bad!! :)

I don't even work in a cube and I was beyond relieved today when the other girl who works with me was "temporarily re-assigned". Days when she is out I feel bad (because she or a kid are sick) but I really do like the silence. I get all my work done in a couple of hours and then kick back and relax. No talking about her dating woes, baby daddy woes, friendship woes, money woes. Dang, she has more woes than I have toes LOL I love her but sometimes I want to say "Do you ever shut UP?!"

Some of us have louder voices than others. Sad, but true. I can hear my DO from down the hall, and she has the biggest office in the building! My cube mates have their ear buds in, so, luckily I don't bother them.

We are all getting offices in the next month, so it won't be an issue then.:thumbsup2

I actually like the woman who works next to me very much, but she does have a fairly loud voice, and a really loud laugh, and she laughs a lot. Often when I am talking to someone on the phone, they'll say "what is going on over there??" because they hear her laughing in the background.

I am so glad I work alone. I may never be able to get a different job, for fear of having co-workers! People come in to drop stuff off or pick stuff up. Sometimes it looks like we're having a party. (teachers have very precise moments that they have available to roam the campus!)

Hang in there, OP.

What do you do?

I wonder why someone hasn't done a study (or a re-study) about the productivity of workers who share space? I know that when I went from a private office to sharing an office with someone, my productivity went down at least 50%. Mostly from having to talk to someone all day long.

Not that I mind talking or being social every now and then. But when I'm in the "zone" I'm more likely to be interrupted and it takes at least 15 minutes for me to get back in the zone. In my last office, I was "zoning" for an hour or more at a time with small breaks to come up for air.

Sometimes, with enough interruptions, my critical concentration is shot for the rest of the day. That can't be good for the bottom line, especially if it happens right after lunch.

For me I work better with a little background noise, but not hers. I have to hear about all the drama in her life and this and that. I try to tune it out, but it is impossible. I can't even tell you how much more I get done without her here. Yesterday I was able to get a ton of work done even while posting in the DIS.

She is back in today and I have already heard her tell 12 people why she was out sick yesterday. I just want to yell over the cube, SHUT UP, SHUT UP, SHUT UP.
