Is it wrong to save a table at cs locations while your family stands in line to order

Saving tables while your family orders at counter service locations

  • Yes it's wrong because that means other familes can't get a table once they get their food.

  • There is nothing wrong with it because your still going to eat there so your doing nothing wrong.

For us it's not just about "saving" a table. DO you really want my 4 kids in front of you in line for 15 minutes. Do I really want to wait in line with my 4 kids for 15 minutes? No way! I can just see one of them hanging on the bars and whacking their chins or something. If we are paying customers then I don't see why we have to wait with my dh in line rather than sit at a table we are going to eat at anyway. By lunchtime my kids have already waited in enough lines. Our meals are our breaktime, and they can sit. I do have to point out though that we go during less busy times, so this issue has never been a problem. If I were on the other end I would be aggravated, but certainly not at the other guests. Just at the fact that we couldn't find a place to sit. It happens. We could just find a bench and move on.

It's wrong to save a table in my opinion because it throws the whole system out of whack. If nobody saved tables, then everyone would have a table when they got their food. Disney has done a poor job of designing their serving areas though, because there is not enough room for families to all wait in line together in those narrow little walkways up to the counter. So what are you supposed to do? When we go, we don't save tables, we just usually end up eating in non-conventional places that are a short distance from the dining areas.

Disney knows that it's better not to save tables too - that's why they had cast members keeping people from doing it at some locations during the crowded spring break season.
I don't think the restaurant will stop serving people if all the tables are taken.

It's a poorly designed system all 'round... if no one held tables I wouldn't intend to either. But if we don't, we most likely won't have a table once we get out of line. And I know that having kids doesn't make you special, but when you're balancing between keeping them behaved in yet another line or letting them sit down for awhile... well, guess which one you pick.

If Disney doesn't want people to hold tables then they need to take steps to prevent the practice. This includes making the lines more group/family friendly.

No matter what people will hold tables, my opinion is it is form of cutting in line. Not as serious but along the same line. It's almost like bypassing the people in the pre-show of a ride and skipping directly to the attraction therefore cutting in front of anyone. I see people saving all the time and I wont give anyone a bad look or fault them for it. We are unable to do this and we most of the time end up eating on the ground or just standing but that's the way it is and we can't change that.

We still have a great time and we are in WDW and not sitting at work :)

I wouldnt even consider it "saving" a table, I consider it using a table. ;)

Yes, we do this, not just in WDW, but it's always been common procedure in fast food restaurants I have visited. The kids and I usually start getting napkins, condiments, etc... and by the time we are settled the food is there. It would take us just as long if we waited to get a table til we had the food and then started getting everything we needed, then ate....plus the food would be cold by then. ;)

That's not what I said. During spring break, cast members were keeping people from saving tables by having them stationed in the dining area. They didn't stop serving people - never said that they did.

I personally think that the chaos created by everyone having to run around looking for a table while carrying trays, backpacks, kids, etc. would be much worse than having someone save a table. Can you imagine how the number of dropped trays, spills, etc. would be increased if that were a requirement?

For people that think it's unfair. Do you think whole familes should get in line together? Our last trip we had a 1yo, 2yo, 3yo and 5yo. I can't imagine standing all of us standing in line.

I dont think any of us are saying what you should do. We were asked for our opinion and we gave it. Nothing is going to change. I dont think it's right but who am I :)

We do this and I don't think we are doing anything wrong or rude. I would go to order with my oldest dd and my husband would get a seat with my younger 2 kids. Why have 5 people waiting in the line and making the whole order area even more crowded than it is? DH would get the napkins and other "stuff" ready for when we arrived, we would eat, and then we left.

There is nothing worse than wandering with a tray and your family following you. We also chose to eat early so we never ran into a huge problem of tables not being available.

You would be welcome to share my table.

I don't think that it is wrong.

We do this as many others has said, but as I sat here and read this thread I realized that I do it everywhere (whether at WDW or the local BK). Also I do it whether it is busy or we are the only ones at BK (for example). It is much easier for me to place the order without my kiddos around than it is when they are. My ds creates chaos and if I send them to a table then things stay calm.

I have voted that I think it is wrong, but I only think it it would work if everybody just occupied tables when they had their food and this is not going to happen.

For those who grab a table first what do you do if you see people wandering around with food looking for a table and what would you do if they asked to share a table?

Last year we were eating at Pizza Planet and it was packed! DS and I went upstairs and found "one" table that seated five and there were three of us. While we were waiting for DH to come back with the food two girls from France asked it they could sit with us. We didn't have a problem with this. The table was somewhat long so we were able to talk to them and still have our privacy too. It was kind of neat to meet someone from another country while having lunch.:goodvibes

I seem to be in the minority with a "yes". But I truly feel that way especially if the line for food is long and I will tell you why. We had gone to Toy Store Pizza Planet one time and got our food. We had no one who could reserve a table for us. WE walked around for a long time waiting for a table while other people sat at the tables waiting for people still in line to get food after us.....and they were still waiting for the rest of their party even after we had found another table and finished our food. I just found it to be inconsiderate considering someone else could have used that table and finished their meal before they were ready to eat. JMHO!:confused3

I voted that there is nothing wrong with it. Personally with 3 kids, what a mess it would be to all stand in line. With the help of these boards I've found the menus for where we would like to eat and beforehand we decide what we will order. I stand in line while the DH and kids go try to find a table. Sometimes you just don't have a choice or you will be standing to eat!

You would be standing to eat because the tables were taken by people waiting for tables.

I don't think there is anything wrong with saving a table.

I think it ridiculous, on the other hand, for one person to save multiple tables. It just irritates me. If you really need three tables, you should have three people from your party saving those tables.

That's what I was thinking. Its a vicious cycle. popcorn::

I can understand the other half with tons of cranky, hungry children, too! I guess it would just be nice if people saw someone wandering around with food and their party was still way back in line, that they would allow them to use that table!

I thought this was a poll and a place to tell your opinion, not to cut someone down for what they do. You didn't see me say anything mean to those they don't like saving a table??????:confused3 :sad2:
We all do what we feel is right for us. I feel that as hard as it is to get a table and as much walking around we do, it is nice to have the DH get us a table while I'm ordering. There has been plenty of times we have waited and starting eating standing up waiting for someone else to finish eating, so it's nice when one is open that DH and the kids sit down, relax while waiting for me. If someone doesn't agree with what I'm doing, oh well.........
sorry for venting, but really upsets me when I get cut down for something I do when I didn't say anything bad about someone else.:headache: :sad2:
