Is it wrong to save a table at cs locations while your family stands in line to order

Saving tables while your family orders at counter service locations

  • Yes it's wrong because that means other familes can't get a table once they get their food.

  • There is nothing wrong with it because your still going to eat there so your doing nothing wrong.

Depends how long the line is. If there were 5 or 6 people ahead of me in the line to order, I wouldn't expect my family to go save a table. If there was one, I'd let them go ahead.

I think, in practice, our family does what AGPrincess said 9 times out of 10 anyway. It makes sense to keep the kids with me until we order so that I don't botch it up - but I don't think they should be clogging the line especially since they're not carrying those heavy trays anyway. Once we're past the register, the kids usually grab a table. Since we have more than one child, one is put in charge of doing what Texas lady described - getting the napkins, ketchup packets, etc. When DH and I grab the trays, everything else is already at the table, so we just eat and go.

My big fear is that my kids will be horsing around and cause someone to spill their tray, so once DH gets ready to order we go off for the napkins, etc and sit down.

There is nothing worse than wandering with a tray and your family following you.
Sure there is (pertinent to this thread, of course) - wandering around with a tray of rapidly-cooling food and not being able to find a place to eat because of all the parties "holding" tables for ten or fifteen (or more) minutes while one or two members of their party wait in line for food.

You would be standing to eat because the tables were taken by people waiting for tables.

I thought this was a poll and a place to tell your opinion, not to cut someone down for what they do. You didn't see me say anything mean to those they don't like saving a table??????
I don't see Andy B saying anything mean to anyone, but rather simply showing the "vicious cycle" mentioned in another post.

Now, THIS is reasonable. Those of us who are against "holding" tables are, I think, referring to the parties who grab a table when they enter the restaurant, removing it from availability for however long it takes for person/s getting the food to get to the ordering point then pay and wait for the food, plus however long it takes them to eat.

IF your family is really in line to order then I don't really mind - less people bumping into me when I carry my tray.

If you're just holding a table and have no intention of actually purchasing anything (like we've seen at the Mexican CS in Epcot), then NOT OK.

We do this all the time whenever it's a cs meal, not just at WDW--McD, Wendy's, etc.. I tell my husband what I want, then I go and find a table, grab napkins, straws...I think it's totally acceptable.

I see both sides, I typically will hold a table but then again we always eat at off times. For instance we figured out at AK last December that Pizzafari actually opened at 10:30. Since we rarely eat breakfast that was perfect for us. And took out the drama of deciding "to hold or not to hold" since even though dd and I were holding a table we were basically the only people in the restaurant. By the time we left it was a whole different story. I know it stinks if you have your food and cannot sit down, which is why so many of us do this. Until WDW posts signs saying its against the rules its going to happen. And even if they do post a sign, you'll still see people doing it most likely.

We do this all the time. I take the kids and sit down with napkins, etc and DH orders and waits. I don't see anything wrong with it. Would I share a table...yes. It's common sense that if I saw a pregnant woman who was looking for a place to sit or an elderly person that needed it, then I wouldn't have any problems giving up our table.

We normally don't have to wait too long for our food, we eat and then we leave. We don't sit there longer than necessary, even with our very slow eating DD. We usually wrap hers up in a napkin and take it with us, so she can eat it outside and while we're pushing her around.

This is interesting, since it never ever would have occured to me that others view dividing up your party between sitting at a table and standing in line is wrong. :confused3

I agree. I mean, there is nothing wrong with it - IMHO. We do it. Yes and I will admit it. It is the only thing to do if you want a seat. And even if you divide your party and go in search of a seat, you still have to spend a good ten minutes to find a seat. Especially at Cosmic Rays (MK) and Electric Umbrella (EPCOT).

I don't have a problem with it if you're actually going to purchase food FROM THAT ESTABLISHMENT. Don't tell me you'd prefer to have the entire family standing in the purchase line.

If it's crowded and you're going to bring your own food...eat somewhere else.

When you go to mcdonalds as a family what do you do? I go with the kids and get the table my husband orders and brings it back. Same thing, there is nothing wrong with it..

My thoughts exactly. I think it is much more pleasant to be in the line without all the fidgeting, squirming little ones. Well, as pleasant as waiting in a line can be!

As long as you are eating there what does it matter if you grab a table while someone is in line getting the food. Either way you need a table.
