Is it wrong to park your car

i can't imagine worrying about things like that. A strange car might make me wonder in my neighborhood but not make me mad. Once a neighbor called the cops on us because we were parked in front of our own house and they didn't recognize our new truck. The parking violations people chalked our tire and gave us a warning. We have no driveway. The neighbor was embarassed and I was a bit po'd about that one. imho, THAT neighbor overstepped my boundaries.

It seems to me like your neighbor was just watching out for the neighborhood. An unfamiliar truck parked in front of your house could have meant burglars.

A neighbor did this in our old neighborhood. The cable guy was in our yard and she called DH at work to ask if we were having work done. We were not, so she called the police. He claimed he had the wrong house or something - but we were very grateful.

These were the same neighbors who always parked their car in front of our house because we were the only ones without a tree. We did not mind at all.

We've had people park in front of our house off and on. It's a bit annoying but what can you do? The only thing I've ever thought of was to park our cars on the street in front of our house.

oh - that reminds me of the time I came home @ lunchtime & parked inside my garage. When I tried to leave I saw a car in my driveway & it blocked me so I couldn't leave - had no idea who it belonged to. So I went to my next-door-neighbor's house, and after much knocking she came to her door (a little irritated that whoever was knocking wouldn't go away). I asked her if she knew whose car was in my driveway & it was hers -- I forget the reason why she parked there. Her demeanor changed immediately. She apologized, which was fine, but that really struck me as odd since I would never just presume to park in someone else's driveway.

It is rude. We have that happen to us a lot. Our neighborhood has about 75% houses with driveways, 25% without. We don't have one because of the slope of the yard to the side of the house. It would be hard to make a driveway there. It can be done, just not something we have the money to do.

Our neighbors do have a driveway, yet, when they have company, they have the people park in front of our house instead of at the curb in front of their own house. Why, when they could fit 2 cars at the curb, I have no idea.

So that displaces one of our cars because they always seem to do it during the day when we are at work and the people stay there until the middle of the night. So that leaves us to park in front of another neighbors house or to park in front of the mailbox and hope we get out in the morning before the mailman comes through. What gets me is that they know that the two houses across the street have only one car per house and have driveways and never need the curb space. You could think they would tell these visitors who come by a few times a month at some point before they come to park across the street so we can still park in front of our house.

I live in the same sort of neighborhood and I do park infront of the neighbours house every now and then. The only time being when another neighbour is parked infront of my house. We just find which ever spot is open, I don't see a problem with it If his spot infront of his home is open, he should be parking there. I really don't mind taking a few steps more by parking a couple houses down.

Our next door neighbor has poker night every Tuesday night. And I'm talking about 20-25 cars blocking the street. Bothers the heck out of me because it blocks traffic until well into the night. A couple of the guests pulled into the yard of a newly constructed house and tore up all the sod. The builders marched across the street and made the homeowner pay for the damages.

The houses in our neighborhood all have driveways large enough for 2 cars. And the curb in front of the houses has room for at least 2 cars. For some reason the son of the neighbor across the street and down 1 ALWAYS parks in front of our house. They have no one in front of their house. It has driven me crazy for 5 years. And now our house is for sale and you cant see the for sale sign when you're coming up the street from the other direction. So my DH went up to the son the other day and asked him if he could park somewhere else while our house was for sale. The son was very nice about it and has been parking elsewhere. I KNOW we dont own the street. But it has just always bugged me. The only time its been a problem is when we were working on our yard and his car prevented us from weedeating that are. And when we have company. Lucky for him he wasnt there about a week ago when we had a big storm and our pear tree splint in half and fell in the street. Although I guess we could have been liable?

well i guess the biggest thing is we haven't gotten our mail for two days because of the car being parked so close to our mailbox, but whatever, i'm not going to cause a stink, i beleive it would have been nice if they asked, but what can you do. hopefully they'll get it moved before the mail comes on monday.

Hmmm...isn't illegal to block the mailbox? And really shouldn't the mailman get out of his truck to get to your box? I would find out about that. I would raise a stink about not getting mail for 2 days.

Actually I think in SC if the mailperson can't get to your mailbox from their vehicle they dont' have to leave the mail. I know they have done the same thing to my parents and my sister.

In our neighborhood, the HOA restricts long-term parking in the street.

One night was the worst. Some neighbor had a huge party and we also have narrow roads and short driveways. Not only were guests parking in our driveway, but other guests blocked those cars in. Even more guests blocked the entrance to our cul-de-sac. We weren't the only house to call the cops that night, as other neighbors were blocked in their own driveways and the noise was excessive.

Wow, it never occured to me to be upset about someone parking in front of my house.

My neighbor has 3 teenagers and their friends are always parked in front of my house...sometimes for a few days or so. Never bothered me. I'm not using the space.

However, I'd be upset about missing my mail!!
