IT is a GE dryer I had to have something replaced about 2 years ago the drum was rubbing and now it isn't heating enough to dry the clothes. Has anyone had the heating element replaced? If so was it expensive! UGH!
You always have to weigh repair charges against the cost of a new unit with a warranty. I don't know if they make 'em like this anymore, but we bought a used dryer from the people who sold us our house. It was from the 70's, we moved in in 1985, and finally got rid of it just a couple of years ago. I don't recall the brand...all the markings on the machine had worn off.
The same thing just happened to my 14 year old dryer. It was just the heating element. DH bought a new one for about $30.00 and put it in himself. It was definately worth it.
My DH has repaired our dryer SEVERAL times himself. There are actually very few parts in a dryer....compared to a washing machine. A belt, a thermostat, heating element....
We bought the 10 yr old dryer for $75. We've had it 15 yrs. I say fix the dryer. You could even try fixing it yourself. Just call the parts store. Do alittle research on the web.
Our washing machine on the other hand....has been replaced. The parts in that cost much more.
Since at certain times of the year...ie tax season, DH is not available for any repairs, so I've learned to do many things myself. I bought the repair guide to my dryer and a heating element and replaced it myself. Took me an hour. I had that dryer (and washer) for 24 years!
