Is it Worth Moving Up a Trip to See the Castle All Decorated?

Dh and I are planning a 15th anniversary trip at the end of October 2006. The Castle is one of my very favorite things at WDW and I mentioned to dh how much I'd been enjoying the photos of it all "dolled up" and how much I'd love to see it that way. But I can't get a clear answer on when the celebration ends (some sites say 17 months, some say 18...)

Being the sweet man that he is, he offered to move our trip up a month if that would get us there in time to see the Castle before the decorations are removed. Now we've done September before 3 times (love the low crowds, hate the humidity) and I admit I'm more concerned about hurricanes than I used to be. Plus, it won't be our *actual* anniversary. But I *would* love to see the Castle...

Anyway, would you move the trip up to September if it meant not missing something you really wanted to see? All opinions are welcome! :)

Saw it early March while still under construction (mostly done). It actually turned out pretty nice - much better than that birthday cake thing.

We are going in June of this year and can't wait to see it. If it were me, I would move it up to see it. That's just me though.

My bet is the decorations will stay up through the end of the year. They usually extend most celebrations a month or two.

I live here and see it every weekend, it is amazing and never fails to make me stare in awe!!! I just love it. I would move it up, but that is just MNSHO

I say move it up a month. Any trip to Disney is worth moving up the date. :teeth:

You may save some money by moving it up, if September stays in the value season category :goodvibes

You have to decide what's more important though, seeing the castle that way, or being there on your anniversary? :love2: :)

Fortunately, we'll be staying on DVC points, so the money isn't a deciding factor (for once, LOL!). ;)

And I'm facing exactly the dilemma you said -- what's more important? I'm actually leaning toward the actual date, but dh is convinced if we don't see the Castle all done up, we'll regret it later. A dilemma only true Disney fans could have, right? :earboy2:

I just wish I could get a definitive answer as to when the decorations will come down. Maybe in a few months once they've started the actual celebration....

To the best of my knowledge the 50th anniversary celebration will run through the end of 2006. This was part of the original announcement which promoted it as an 18-month celebration. I would be surprised if they ended it any earlier.

Does anybody have any photos or links to photos of the WDW castle for the celebration?

We are also going to be there for late Oct '06. I'm planning on all the 50th b-day stuff still going on from what I've read so far. So, you should be safe.

my family and I went for the 25th anniversary and I must say, the birthday cake castle was somewhat of an eyesore..it didn't ruin the trip for me by any means, but to me it just wasn't the same. I haven't seen any pics of the castle decorations for this event yet, I hope it's not too much of an eyesore!

as much as I'd love to see the castle....I'm too much of a sentamentalist and would prefer to be there on my actual anniversary.

Judging from past celebrations I'd say it's a good bet the 50th Celebration, including the beatiful castle, will remain until the holiday period of 2006.

Also, and this is just pure speculation on my part, if the castle is as big a hit with it's new decor as it seems to be....I think they may leave it that way :). The pink castle caused such an uproar that there was no way that would have stayed. But it looks so amazing now that they may just keep it that way. I have no way to support this theory...but I think it's definitely possible :).

I was thinking the same thing ... hoping, I guess! :)

The castle is one of my very favorite things too and I am dying to see it all decorated (even though I HATED the pink frosting fiasco!) but I don't know if I'd change my anniversary trip.

According to Disney's website, the celebration goes on for 18 months, but to be sure, why don't you try calling Disney and see what they say? You might luck out and get a knowledgable CM! I'd be very surprised if they took down the decorations though before the end of the year. Look how long it took them to put them up....I can't see them starting the de-construction right before the busy holiday season. My guess is that if they decide to take down the gold decorations it won't be til after New Year's 2007.
