Is it worth it to pay for a "preferred" room at POP?

It would be an additional $80 for the week to get a "preferred" room at Pop Century. I assume this means it's closer to something (the main bldg maybe?). For those who have stayed there, is it worth it to get a preferred room?

Thanks. :earsgirl:

IMO, No. We stayed there last year in the 50's building and were as close as some of the "preferred" rooms. I didn't find it worth it. However, the only way to really know you will get a closer room is to pay the preferred rate. Depends on how important it is to you.

We loved the POP and look forward to staying there again this year. Have fun and enjoy your trip. :earsboy:

It gets you into the 60s building--across the pool. 50s and 70s buildings are just as close and 10 dollars cheaper.

No, we did this once. Not worth the $10.

I don't think it is worth the $10 per night for a closer room unless you are really handicapped and can't walk the distance. But if you are that handicapped you would have a wheelchair or ECV I suppose.
I booked my rooms the other day and the CM couldn't believe my request. I asked for a parking lot view in the 50's building on the top floor. She said that is all the things that most people don't want.
But the 50's building top floor gives a great view of the fireworks for all 3 parks so if you want to make it an early night you can still see most of the airiel fireworks. Plus, the top floor is quieter, and no one is above you jumping off the beds.
I love Pop and AS and prefer to spend my money on tours and nice meals, after all, I usually get to my room after midnight and get up for the 7 am early park opening. I can sleep at home, I like to do it all when on vacation.

Everyone is in agreement, it is definitely not worth the $10. Use that for something else. The rooms at POP in the "non-preferred" area are just as good as the others.

We love POP!

Thanks so much for the quick replies. I'm convinced! I'll pass on the preferred.

The fridges are $10 per day? Ugh. I was hoping for less.

If you want to get a preferred room to be closer to Classic Hall, then maybe it isn't worth it. But I felt the 60s section was the best for several reasons. It is the in the middle of the action and the main pool there is great if you get a pool view. Last year I stayed there overlooking the pool and thought it was the best location in the resort. Having said that, the other replies were correct, there are other sections that are just as close and not considered preferred.

To get a good view of the fireworks at Pop, should I request a parking lot view or lake view from the 50's building?

We've had Illuminations/fireworks view from a lake view in the 50's Tramp and Jukebox building, both 4th floor. If fireworks is what you'd most like then request 4th fl, fireworks view. :flower: Remember though, it's not a full view, but the top and some rooms you'll see more than others. Great views from 4th floor 50's Tramp and Jukebox buildings :)

Hope you have a great view!

I'm in the minority too. To me it's worth it. I love being in the middle of action. I love facing the pool and the kiddie pool I think the pools are sooo cool! We usually ask for 4th floor, this way the noise is not too bad. I love the 60s theme. We walked around the bldg 4th floor and watched the fireworks...Oh my gosh...seeing the Spaceship Earth is just awesome!

I just have to add...POP is the BEST value resort...it's almost a step up cause you get the Mickey soap/shampoo/lotion. They have surrey bikes to rent. You can have the lake view (though facing the unfinished Legendary PoP), you can watch the Epcot's fireworks, and you don't share bus with any other resorts.

Enjoy!! preferred room or not...you're at POP!! You can't go wrong!! :)

I definately felt it was worth it to pay the extra $10 to be in the 60's section. This is the only way to guarentee you will be close to classic hall. You can request the 50's or 70's buildings which are also close, but that does not mean you will get them. Plus we loved being close to the Hippy Dippy pool.

People are mentioning its a step up. .We are staying there for a few days before we hit the BWV becuase its new and we wanted to check it out...

We have stayed at AS music before.. Are the room comparable or bigger? Anyone got a pic?

Here are some photos of POP:

The rooms are the same size and layout as at the All-Stars. But, I like the interior design better.

IMO, it's not worth the extra $$ for a preferred building at POP. It's just not that spread out. The only places I think I would pay for a preferred building would be ASMu and CBR.

Peggie,

We are considering staying at POP the next visit. You can seriously see the fireworks show from that room area? You said the 3 parks. I assume the first two you are speaking of is Epcot and MGM. Is the 3rd Animal Kingdom? Do they have fireworks?
