Is it worth it for us to go to HS ?

I've been thinking real hard about this one. Dh and I have never been to HS before. I was thinking about it to do the following for a few hours on our first Friday aft prior to attending at F and W at Epcot for the evening.

TSSM- FP+
Beauty and the Beast
Studio Backlot
Great Movie Ride(was going to be a fp+ until the new tiering :( )
Maybe... Voyage of the little Mermaid

There isn't much else we'd do there...dh wont do coasters or real scary rides like Tower...and I don't want anything that causes motion illness like Star Tours.

TSSM is the only thing super appealing to me and Im wondering if it is even worth the few hours we're talking about just for this ?

What do you all think?

I'd give it a shot, since you'd only be doing the afternoon anyway, you should be able to fill that time easily. You may end up liking it more than you think.

DHS is EASILY the least favorite of all 4 in my house, well behind not only the other 3, but also both water parks.

But, I would never advise skipping it to someone who's never been :thumbsup2

It is strange, for some folks, the "rides" are what make theme parks worth visiting, but for me, there are way more than attractions within the Disney parks. We go to DHS at least twice on each visit, and always enjoy the visit. the shops are fun, the atmosphere is very much old Hollywood, and the attractions that we go on add to the experience. See for yourself, walk and take the time to check out the details throughout DHS, and then decide if you like it. Every park is different, and each person needs to decide if the park is worht the time it takes to visit.

But then we could use the afternoon at a waterpark instead :)

I know the thing is we "should " go since we've never been....but I know dh. He's going to tire of the parks after a number of days. He really doesn't like rides but will do some to placate me. If hs for what we're talking about is a letdown he's going to be less likely to want to keep going to others.

My plans already include 2 evenings at MK, and 1 rope drop morning, 3 evenings at Epcot, 1 morning at AK. With all of that we'll still have 1 day left on our pass if there is a F&W event we need to fit in. (Im not worried about using all the days as we used points to get our 7 day hoppers). This is with a 14 day trip and for us a lot more activity than we're used to on holidays. Our more typical holiday includes, lie on the beach, snorkel, lie on the beach some more, swim, lie on the beach again....lol. Disney has always been a 3 or 4 day quick stop and this much D may be overkill for him.

I think maybe part of the problem in the past was the hit and run you had to do in order to get in everything. I would change y outlook for this trip, and plan plenty of "off" activities so that you are not all Disney all day. Also, maybe think about more time in AK. It is a great place to check out "details" and on morning only hits the headliners It takes more time to see the trails, and to explore that place.

For that long of a trip you should go to HS and try everything there to help you decide if is worth it for future, shorter, visits. There are some gems at HS that often get overlooked. And, I think you're overestimating the motion on Star Tours. It's quite tame and certainly worth waiting 10-15 minutes to ride.

I enjoy a day at DHS. Seems that many people list it as their least favorite, but I wouldnt miss it. There are some great attractions, the street performers are a lot of fun, and just the atmosphere of the park is fun. I suggest giving it a day. If you do not like it, dont go again, but I think you will enjoy it!
And yes, I do hope they change it up sometime soon and add some new things, but I still enjoy a day there.

We were originally looking at Star Tours...then I read tons of stuff on these bds where many have said this is the only ride that makes them motion sick esp that it seems to be a visual thing.. I can get motion sick in a car if I look down at anything....for me its a vision thing(I get ocular migraines which in simple terms are visual distortions without the headache and pretty unique) so it gave me some real concern. That's why we're leaving it out.

If we didn't have kids we would go to HS. I love Tower of Terror and Rockin Roller coaster. The toy story ride is new since we last went there, but I suppose we would do that, too. HOWEVER, that is all that there is to do there IMO. Since our kids are too little for those rides, we skip HS completely.

If Star Tours is something you think your husband would like, it's one of those rides that is not weird at all to ride alone. If the line is short, he could easily do that while you do a little shopping.

LOL...the only way I can get him on rides is if I talk him into it (which I always do;) ) . Nada, Zilch chance of him riding anything if Im not going unless its him driving . He's so super type A and hates not being in control ! Im convinced this is why he doesn't like rides....no qualms about speed....he thought the Autobahn in Germany was created just for him. :)

I'm curious, what kind of "points" do you use to get tickets?

Last year we paid for our DLR tickets with a Chase card and redeemed Chase Ultimate Rewards for cash toward our balance. I'd love to hear if there are other ways. A Disney Rewards Visa card perhaps?

Funny - this is one of our favorite parks for the younger crowd! Disney junior, great character options, little mermaid, lights motors action, are all favorites of my kids (almost 4 and 8)....the drawing classes are cool too!

OP - we would definitely do it - we love TSM!! Think you should do it for sure!!

I used to do that too. I skipped DHS for a few years with the birth of my elder daughter. My sister would go to DHS by herself and hit the headliners then join us later. However, with the popularity of Sofia the First, Doc McStuffin and Jake, we were back at DHS last year. This year, I have ADR at Hollywood and Vine for those characters.

Exactly. Anyone that thinks HS does not have a lot for kids is grossly misinformed. It is more kid-friendly than Epcot or AK.

HS has some of the best atmosphere in WDW imho :) You might also enjoy Muppets 3D, don't have to be a kid for that, Lights Motors Action show, Indy Jones show? If you like Star Wars but not sure about the ride, visit the gift shop it has neat myo light sabre and action figure tables. HS has some fun restaurants, maybe you could make an ADR if not for a meal but even just for an awesome milk shake snack at 50's Cafe or Sci Fi Drive In. I love to do my shopping at HS, neat stores there. There is also the animation academy. So much to do at HS even if you don't like ToT or RnRC.... too bad because those are both awesome rides. Took me 5 trips to work up the courage to ride ToT but now I love it.... even though it scares the heck out of me! :rotfl2:

Just a thought but if YOU want to ride ToT or RnRC make a FP+ for it and that will make your DH's wait for you short, you could ride either of those alone no problem. And he could even go through the que with you for the atmosphere and then take the chicken exit. Same for HIM on Star Tours...FP+ that and you can walk through with him then chicken out.... I just did that last month for the same motion sickness reason you mentioned.

::yes::

We used our Aeroplan points which is the Air Canada program. Dh and I had so many that we've been looking for ways to expend some since it is so darn hard nowadays to use them for worthwhile flights. We're also using them for 4 nights at the Dolphin and our car rental. The irony is that we couldnt use points for our flights since nothing without stops was available for our dates.

Thanks all for the opinions on HS. We havent decided what to do. On our last trip ( a few yrs ago) we swore we'd spend more time at Epcot and do more in depth touring on the various countries and non ride attractions which we havent yet done. So we may do that or we may do HS. But you've given me food for thought which is beneficial :)
