We have 2 weeks in Lanzarote booked for June but I have just been browsing First Choice's site and found that we could stay in The Port Orleans riverside for the same price for 1 week.
I want to change the holiday now but DH doesn't think it will be worthwhile going for a week.

What do you think ?

We've gone for just a week quite often and always had a great time...

we are going for a week in febuary 2009 and planning a week in october 2009 half terms next year, instead of a two week holiday.

we have been for a week and had a great time:thumbsup2

I guess i'm in the minority, I would find going for only one week too hard, i'd hate to come back! I would go to Lanzarote and enjoy it...sit in the sun and plan your next trip to WDW - a long trip!!!

Ideally I like to go for 2 weeks, but if it was a choice between 2 weeks in Lanzorote and 1 week in WDW, the week in WDW would win every time.:thumbsup2

Go for it.

Have you been to Lanzarote before? do you know anything about it? We had 2 weeks there once. It is not somewhere we will go back to. We would do 1 week in Orlando any day over 2 week in Lanzagrotte. Sorry not our kind of holiday.
We have done 1 week in Orlando no problems. Next Xmas we are there for 9 nights so only just over a week.
If its a 1st trip to Orlando it will be very dificult to pick what to do but if you have been before and know what you what to do then its easy.

Thanks everyone.
We went to Lanzarote 2 years ago so know what its like there. In my opinion it depends which part of the island you visit, some parts ar beautiful but other parts are like Blackpool.

I would change it in a heartbeat but DH is having none of it, he thinks we will only get 5 full days and it will be too stressful and he'll feel as though he hasn't had a holiday.
Our original plans were to go for 3 weeks in Sept next year (I was going to book it as soon as First Choice released thir prices in April) but his brother has announced he is getting married abroad next year so we won't be able to afford to do both unfortunatly.
I am well aware of the fact that we couldn't do everything and I wouldn't even attempt to try. My plan if we were to go would be to concentrate on just Disney and not the other parks.

We went for a week and stayed onsite at Disney, I was suprised at just how much we were able to do.

I go against the majority I am afraid.

Personally I wouldn't consider a week, it's just too far for too few days there, you lose a couple with adjusting to the time difference.

I do understand the "I would go for just one day" comments and it can depend on people's own circumstances, but in 'our circumstances with Joshua' it's just too far for a relative short amount of time there.
The first couple of days he is up and about at 2 or 3 in the morning, so for us it just wouldn't work.

For a couple without childen I would be less against the idea...but only slightly!

Why don't you look into what a stay at one of the cheaper resorts would cost?

Maybe you could stretch it too a 10 day stay? those three days would make all the differance.

Agreed. If it's a cost constraint rather than a time constraint look at staying somewhere less expensive, maybe offsite?
I think if you feel you'd rather go to WDW than Lanzarote then WDW is where you should go.
Actually we're going for 10 nights in April, and that trip came about by looking around to find somewhere Med/Canaries ish to go for a week in May half-term, but everything was really expensive, and then I found these cheap flights to Miami in April so thought we may as well go to Florida instead!
We're staying offsite this time.

We've booked an 8 night trip in December but its an adults only trip.

It takes my DS's too long to recover from the flight so I wouldn't do it with them.

If it was going to be my only holiday of the year i would take the 2 weeks in Lanzarote, but if it was a 2nd trip in a year i would go for just the week in the US and come back and rest!

Alex

Yep I would do it also.
A week is better than nothing, and suprisingly a week doesnt go as quickly as you think.:thumbsup2

If it was a first trip or that you had not been for a while then I don't think that a week would be long enough.

If you go regulary then I would go for a week staying on site over 2 weeks in Lanzarote.

We did this last year in Jan we went for 8 days and June for 7 days. June was meant to be a quick get away week, but when I started looking at prices it wasn't much different than going to the med for a week. Although we did have annual passes last year so didn't have to add the costs of tickets on.

I'm with Alex on this. I'd go for a week as a bonus trip, but I'd think twice before trading it for my only two-week holiday of the year. As your husband says, I don't think I'd feel I'd had a holiday - WDW is pretty full-on at the best of times.

I would be tempted to price up some options, though - you never know, you might be able to do a 2 week DIY for a similar price to the Lanzarote package.
