We are bringing our family down to SSR and staying in 2 2BD units. We were originally going to fly down early in the morning so I knew we could get units near each other. Now we are going to fly down the night before. We'll be arriving on a Saturday night around 9pm. (on June 21st)

Will we still be able to get rooms near each other? I have requested the Grandstand section on both reservations, had them note our Grand Gathering number and asked that the rooms be near each other. Is it worth faxing the day before because of the late arrival? Should I call the hotel directly on Saturday morning to ask about our room assignments? Is it still worth doing that or is it just the luck of the draw now?

I don't think it is completely luck of the draw, but arriving late is really going to minimize your chances. I think Thursday and Sunday are the days with the greatest turnover and the days with the best chance for getting choices. You might think about staying in a hotel for the night and hit the resort first thing Sunday morning? Good Luck.

I don't know about SSR, but at OKW, when we've requested rooms to be near each other, they have often pre-blocked the rooms. We never set a follow fax, and the rooms have always been convenient to each other, though not always in the same building, sometimes in adjacent buildings.

I think with grand gatherings those are usually pre-blocked.

DVC has requested that members not send faxes because they will just be thrown away. They ask for you to have your requests on the reservation. If it's not on the reservation, contact MS to add it.

DVC resorts will give priority to groups wanting nearby rooms. I'd just make sure it was noted on your original reservation and they will try to accommodate the request.

When I called to modify the reservations MS noted the grand gathering number and our request to be near each other. The woman wasn't very helpful though. I tried to explain that I usually don't worry about such things because we stay at BCV and honestly, how far apart could you be?? But at SSR you could be really far apart. Oh well, I'll just hope for pixie dust and stop stressing about it. I'll just be really happy if our airline manages to get us there without any cancellations :)

They do their best, but I actually had a CM at MS put on my daughter's ressie to be in a room near us and on our ressie it says to be in a room near her. That way the request is on both ressies in case they miss it on one.

I have never faxed and always just put it on my reservation request.

Last time I had a 1 BR and 2 BR. Checked in at 3 at OKW and they were one floor apart.

Worked just fine.

Now one other time it didn't work at all, but in that case I did book the studio literally a few days prior to the trip so that may have been the issue (and we checked in on different days)

By rule they don't take fax requests into account, or so they say.

sssshhhhhhh
don't spread this around
SSR and OKW are two of the few resorts that take/read faxes
we used to review them before assigning rooms
not always, but if we had time between other duties

We have always booked multiple rooms, always had it noted when we booked and have always had this request granted. At SSR we had two 2-bedroom units and one 1-bedroom booked. The 2-bedrooms were right across from each other and the 1-bedroom was one floor below us. At OKW we were a bit further from each other but just across a walkway. Same building. You probably won't have any problems unless the resort is extremely crowded at the time.

Now, RS, you know that DVC told us no more faxes. Next you are going to say that Jim Lewis comes by to see how you are all doing.
