Is it worth doing Studio?

I'm guessing few on this board actually miss the playground.

We miss the playground. My children loved that space and would easily spend an hour in there, exploring. For us, it was a great place to just sit and relax while they played.

We are going March 2018.

We do not Tower or Rock and Roll.

With all the rides closed is it worth going to the Studio for the day?

No! Has always been a 'part time' park for us - now more so! We love TSM, FP it, walk around a bit, then it's time to leave. Years ago, we would never have missed the back lot tour before they started down sizing it - the best thing there to me.

If you can make it to the the theater at least 45 minutes before the start of the show, you can walk in easily.

No matter the time of year, we have never had the luxury of 'walking' in. That's why we've basically stopped going even though dh & I do enjoy the show. All the standing and waiting to get in after you're in line kills us. There has to be a better way, and no, I don't mean the meals there - don't care for them.

I think it really depends. I went there on my last trip for 2 1/2 days. I really like TSMM and ST and there were members of the party who wanted to do RnR. We also watched a bunch of the shows. However, we had hopper passes so ti made it an easy decision as we could go somewhere else when we got bored. If I had to only go there one day, not sure I would visit.

It's definitely worth spending a day there and we normally spend two days there. Except June 9-16 of 2018...then I think that no one AT ALL should go there :)

While I have been a DHS apologetic the answer now depends:

1) Is this your first time to DHS EVER?

2) Are you going with small children that may enjoy Disney Junior, meeting those characters, or the other shows at like Frozen, Little Mermaid, Muppets?

3) Are you going with anyone that is a huge Star Wars fan and hasn't been to see the Launch Bay?

Even if the answer is YES for either of those, DHS just simply is a half-day park if you aren't doing the two big thrill rides there.

Honestly, Disney does a disservice to their guests with the condition that Epcot and DHS is in currently. I felt that while they did all this construction they should have combined Epcot to DHS and let you hop between them for free, but it is way too late for that.

DHS will pick up with Toy Story Land, and of course, SWGE.

DHS just has always been light on attractions, and once the "magic" of its original theme (The making of movies) wore off, it showed its flaws and got nothing but worse with patchwork attractions to fill the gap.

But to me, those memories of its heyday and the ambience has always made it my favorite park.

But even though it is, I just haven't been able to give it more than a half day on my last trip.

I would not waste a park ticket on Studios personally. If I had a hopper I'd head over for a bit to ride what I want to ride but there isn't enough to do for me to justify blowing a single day ticket. I skipped it on my last trip and plan to skip it on the next.

For the Fantasmic show is it better to get the meal (we have dining plan) that includes a ticket or a fast pass or just walk in?

There is no need for the dinner if you can get to the show early enough. It does seem to be getting more and more busy for standby though, so we would probably show up about 1 hour ahead. Worst case 45 minutes.

Dan

My adult son and I were there on Nov 3rd. We spent about 7 or 8 hours there and then returned to our resort for a couple hours. We then returned to see the Star Wars spectacular (whatever it is actually called).

It was a good day! I people watched while he had his FP at ToT but neither of us did RnRC.

Ticket Day 1 - Epcot - opening 'til closing
Ticket Day 2 - MK - opening 'til closing
Ticket Day 3 - DHS
Day 4 - DS (and we went to Thor at AMC)
Ticket Day 4 - AK - opening 'til just before closing
Ticket Day 5 - MK - opening 'til 8:30 (park was open 'til 11 but we were tired)

We haven't used hoppers in years...

Depends on what the alternative is. An extra day in another park?

Why I am asking,

I have done the Studio a few times before when all the rides/shows were working and we would leave late afternoon. I felt the Studios was worth 3/4 a day (sometimes leaving before dinner), compared to late hours with the other parks. The lady I am going with does not do roller coaster type and is her first time at Disney. I have done the Tower and Rock n' Roll once and that was enough.

We will be 2 late 60's ladies with no kids.

We will only have base tickets, spending 2 days MK, 2 days, Epcot, 1 day Animal and 1 day ???

Given this is your friend's first time at Disney, I would definitely recommend taking her to the Studios. Sure, you might very well find that you want to leave by the afternoon, but that's fine! You can use the rest of the afternoon/evening to show her Disney Springs and treat her to dinner.

Or, alternatively, have a fancy breakfast somewhere, arrive at the Studios later in the day, and take in dinner and a show (Fantasmic). The Star Wars Fireworks are also excellent, I hear.

IS there enough to do? Absolutely. If you wanted to ride everything, meet all the characters, and see all the shows, you easily could spend two full days in the parks. But, even if you don't want to see all the shows, meet the characters, or ride all the rides, it's still a Disney park. And this is your friend's very first trip, which means she should have a chance to see as much as possible of everything Disney has to offer.

After all, you're already planning 2 days at Magic Kingdom, 2 days at Epcot, and 1 at Animal Kingdom. You're not missing anything so you might as well give her the complete tour!

What is there to do in Hollywood Studios?

Beauty and the Beast, Live on Stage
Disney Junior, Live on Stage
Nighttime projection show and fireworks
Fantasmic
Frozen, Sing-a-long Show
Indiana Jones Show
Meet and Greet with Minnie and Mickey
Muppet Vision 3D
Star Tours
Star Wars clip show in the theatre (basically recapping the movies)
Star Wars Launch Bay (more trailers/behind the scenes, props, and meet-and-greets)
Voyage of the Little Mermaid
One Man's Dream (though apparently it's now called "Walt Disney Presents" and includes another meet-and-greet)
Plus the usual dining and shopping.

Not sure if I've left anything out...?

We walked in there no problem in September. The stadium still had plenty of seats open by show time.

And everywhere we went that week was slammed. MK, Epcot and AK were packed with long lines the entire week, whereas the Studios and Fantasmic were not crowded at all.

The only thing that had a line was Toy StoryMania. Tho R&R and ToT could have had waits. I don’t go on those, and the people in my party who would didn’t bother.

DHS has shows that allow you to sit if your legs/feet hurt from walking or standing in Parks the previous days:
  • The Frozen Sing Along : 30 minutes : Indoor theater
  • The Indiana Jones Stunt show : 30 minutes : Outdoor theater
  • Fantasmic! : 30 minutes : Outdoor theater (Night show)
  • Beauty and the Beast : 25 minutes : Outdoor theater
  • Disney Junior Live : 24 minutes : Indoor theater
  • Muppet Vision 3-D : 17 minutes : Indoor theater
  • Voyage of the Little Mermaid : 17 minutes : Indoor theater
  • Path of the Jedi : 11 minutes : Indoor theater

With all the rides closed is it worth going to the Studio for the day?

I'd say no, but it's tough to answer without a few more details.

We don't have kids yet, so it's just us, & main reason I would go back is RnR. Just not enough there for us to justify going, and we don't do hoppers.
We are back in Jan with a 6 day park pass, and are not planning on going to HS. Did it last year for a day, and found that was enough for us till Toy Story land opens.

"all the rides are closed' is simply not a true statement.

Great Movie Ride closed. Backlot Tour closed years ago. Lights Motor Action was a show. Streets of Americs was simply an 'area'. I'm guessing few on this board actually miss the playground.

Can we quit saying 'everything is closed'. It's basically a park that does not appeal to some people. But, to those that it does appeal to, there is plenty to do to spend a day and a half in the park

I miss Honey I Shrunk the Kids. Also, Backlot Tour was my favorite ride as a kid.

To answer the original question, if you have Park Hoppers or an AP, then it is definitely worth visiting. If you only have one park tickets, that will depend on what you are into. For rides, I like Toy Story and Star Tours. I hate loud music, so RNRC is out. The shows are fun, but get tiring if you see them too many times.

There's really only four rides (TSMM, ST, ToT, and RNRC) unless I'm forgetting something. The rest are Shows (Frozen, Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid, Muppets, Disney Junior, Indiana Jones, and Star Wars Launch Bay), Character Meets, or a Museum (Walt Disney Presents). Toy Story Land will add two more, Galactic Edge another two or more (assuming Star Tours stays), and whenever Mickey's Runaway Train or whatever it is that is replacing GMR :( opens, another. MGM will be a full day park and maybe then some even without the shows.

This is exactly what I've been wishing they would do every time I visit Epcot. At least let me make FPs in both parks so I can do FEA or Soarin' and then head over to MGM and ride Star Tours or catch a show.

DHS (and previously AK before Pandora) really helped sell Park Hoppers I guess. I mean of my past 3 trips, I used hoppers on two of them because of those two parks (pre-Pandora). I mean having two fully priced theme parks that only had one hand's worth of non-show attractions was pretty rough, but the other parks and experiences made up for it.

ALMOST as sneaky as putting a popular attraction between two identically "magically" themed areas in two separate parks that you can only ride on IF you buy a park hopper.

We are not ride only park visitors so we can easily spend a full day at both DHS and AK!
