Is it worth doing Studio?

Many of us with little kids actually do miss that playground. It was a really fun place for kids to run and play (although I know it was too easy for very little ones to get lost in there). Since we didn't have the playground on our August trip, we had to find an alternative place for my 3 year old niece to play while waiting for the adults to ride. We had to do this for 15-30 min intervals 3 times throughout our two week trip. We found quiet benches/corners where we could entertain her with her bubble wand.

I played hide and seek with my 3 and 4 year old in the Muppet courtyard for about 20 minutes. The courtyard was empty, and the kids were getting restless. They hid behind garbage cans and benches and such. It was a top 3 moment for the entire trip for them. They still talk about it.

We are going March 2018.

We do not Tower or Rock and Roll.

With all the rides closed is it worth going to the Studio for the day?

Why I am asking,

I have done the Studio a few times before when all the rides/shows were working and we would leave late afternoon. I felt the Studios was worth 3/4 a day (sometimes leaving before dinner), compared to late hours with the other parks. The lady I am going with does not do roller coaster type and is her first time at Disney. I have done the Tower and Rock n' Roll once and that was enough.

We will be 2 late 60's ladies with no kids.

We will only have base tickets, spending 2 days MK, 2 days, Epcot, 1 day Animal and 1 day ???

I would say that it’s worth spending a ticket there if you want to see Fantasmic. It’s still a great show IMO.

I think the best attraction at DHS is the Frozen sing-a-long if you are in the first 5 rows, center stage. But, otherwise I would be inclined to ditch.

Given that you are doing two days at MK and Epcot and one day at AK, there is no reason to not take a day for HS. I'm 60 and go with my 37 year old son who has nerve damage in his spinal cord so he can't do any rides that bump and we love HS, heck the shopping alone is worth it.

If you don't consider ANY of the rides, by the time you get through One Man's Dream, Voyage of the Little Mermaid, Muppets 3D, Beauty and the Beast, Frozen Sing a Long, Indiana Jones, Fantasmic, 50s Prime Time, that's a pretty full day by my count. I haven't heard many who don't care for some rides say much critical about Toy Story Mania, so add that in. Even without the thrill rides, there is plenty to fill a day at Studios. If you don't like Studios, you don't, and that's your opinion that you are entitled to. But to say there is nothing to do is just plain false. I didn't list everything there is to do in Studios. I just listed the things I like to do. (I also enjoy the three thrill rides.) We all have our preferences. On the other hand, how can you know what you like at any Disney park until you try it. I would encourage the new people to give Studios a fair chance. Some of them may end up loving it as much as I do. The first time I went to a four-park Disney World, I was skeptical of Studios as being just about movies. I have come to love several of its attractions as among my favorites at WDW.

We are doing a half to 3/4 day at the Studios on our trip later this week. My mom is 58 and has had back surgery and I am 14 weeks pregnant. We are only riding Toy Story, but we are going to see a few of our favorite shows, eat at our favorite restaurant, and see the Christmas fireworks. HS is our favorite park for atmosphere. We just love walking around and looking in all the shops, etc. We are using this day as a day to sleep in and head to the park around lunch. We have a FP for Toy Story, so we don’t have to worry about lines/crowds. It will be one of our favorite days of the trip.

If you aren't interested in Tower or Rock n Roller Coaster, I would probably skip it. We don't do those rides either and we aren't interested in any of the shows (been there, done that, none of them favorites). The only reason we are going on our upcoming trip is to see the Star Wars fireworks which my DH hasn't seen yet. We will get to the park at 4 pm, have dinner, do two rides (Star Tours and TSMM) and go to the Star Wars dessert party. Less than half a day. The shows could take up quite a lot of time, so if you are interested in any of those (Beauty and the Beast, Indiana Jones, Frozen, Fantasmic, Star Wars), you could make part of a day out of it. Personally, if I were doing 2 days MK, 2 EP and 1 AK, I would probably just start with a 5 day base ticket and plan a day to do something else or re-visit one of the other parks.

Still spend two of our days there. If we didn’t ride those attractions that you mentioned it would still easily be a full day park.

I think it’s like another person said, you either like HS or you don’t. Still very much the same park to us and I like the current Star Wars additions and night time show

We only spent one or two hours at a time there a few weeks ago.

But we had an AP and Park hoppers.

We either arrived for morning EMH to ride RNRC a few times then left for EPCOT and Food and Wine or we went a few nights simply to check out the Christmas decor and “shows” on Sunset. If it wasn’t for those two things (and hopping abilities) we would have skipped that Park entirely and it used to be our favourite. For us, the vibe has changed and DHS is the least magical park to us now.

Just my .02

We love shows so I always thoroughly enjoy a trip to DHS.

When I did a girls' trip, my friend adored DHS because of all the Star Wars things there. She was fangirling all day lol.

"all the rides are closed' is simply not a true statement.

Great Movie Ride closed. Backlot Tour closed years ago. Lights Motor Action was a show. Streets of Americs was simply an 'area'. I'm guessing few on this board actually miss the playground.

Can we quit saying 'everything is closed'. It's basically a park that does not appeal to some people. But, to those that it does appeal to, there is plenty to do to spend a day and a half in the park

THANK YOU!!!
The Studios is worth spending some time in. For my kids it has the best character meet and greets, Olaf, Star Wars, BABY GROOT, and for my little girl this is the only place to meet most of the Disney Jr. characters. plus buzz and woody together. If characters aren't your thing, still worth an evening visit I absolutely love this park at night

We went to DHS three times in our week-long trip. We did RNR and ToT once each--dh needed a drink after ToT (after a margarita flight and a martini flight at the Brown Derby Lounge we were ready to proceed). It was our first time there and we wanted to do it all. I had my list and schedules and there were only three things we didn't manage to fit in. There were three things on the agenda that we didn't get to in the entirety of WDW... and two of them were in DHS... after three visits! We had a great time there!

For the Fantasmic show is it better to get the meal (we have dining plan) that includes a ticket or a fast pass or just walk in?

If you can make it to the the theater at least 45 minutes before the start of the show, you can walk in easily.

If you feel this only a 1/2 or 3/4 day park. Then go and spend that time there. Then take a resort bus to the resorts and check them out. Or schedule a show/meal like Hoop De Doo Revue. Or visit the boardwalk in the evening. It’s an easy boat ride or a nice walk to that area.

While we have enough to spend the whole day there, I get that everyone has a different touring style. This past trip was a quick one for us. We originally planned to skip Epcot. And just do 1 1/2 days as MK, 1 day at AK and 1 at HS. But when they announced Christmas Belle was meeting in Epcot, we changed our plans. So we split our day to spend a few hours in Epcot. And we really liked the boat ride between them. We also visited the Boardwalk area to do the Bon Voyage breakfast. And we can’t wait to scheduled a nighttime visit there on a future trip.

At this point my reason to go to DHS is usually just Sci Fi Dine In and Toy Story Midway Mania ride. If I didn't have an AP, I'd probably skip this park altogether until it gets more things that interest me... if that is even going to happen... YMMV.

My favorite entertainment is at Hollywood Studios. You can find me sitting on a bench on Sunset Blvd watching the Citizens of Hollywood. They are dressed as Hollywood characters from 1947 and are comedy gold. Midday they do a funniest citizen of Hollywood contest. Do yourself a favor and stop and watch if you go.

Don't let the naysayers steer you away, yes, it is most definitely still worth going to. There is still lots to do!
