On top of that hubby considers me and the kids to be precious cargo and wants us to get a cab to and from the airport uk side. He is concerned about me driving 2.5 hours on the morning we get back. My problem is that I am just not comfortable getting a cab from my house advertising the fact that we are away.

I think your hubby is right: family is precious cargo. I fully understand why you would not want to take a cab from your house for those reasons. Do you have a close friend or family memeber near to you where you could drop the cases the night before and get the cab to pick you up and take you from there?

Yes there is but the problem would be booking with the credit card they would probably want the billing address. I might get my sister to come over and make out she is house sitting to look after our animals (we don't have any animals!)

You could also ask her, if it is possible or practical, for her to pop in every few days, open/close some different blinds, open or close a window here and there, etc. Ask her to go back into the house for a while after the cab collects you. If you feel you are being watched when you leave just shout loudly after her "Make yourself at home!" I don't like leaving an empty house either and have resorted to all kinds of trickery to make it look like I am not really going away so I can totally relate to not wanting people to know the house is empty.

When you book the taxi, just ask anyway and tell them you are sleeping over with family the night before. They can only say no, but they might say it's okay to collect you from elsewhere. You have nothing to lose.
