Is it weird...

I go to character meals all the time, and I'm a solo adult traveler.

Is it weird for 2 adults (35, 54) to go to character meals?
Mom and I have planned Garden Grill, Chef Mickeys and Norway Princess meals. I didn't know if there would be other adults only there. How do the characters interact with just adults? I know everyone is a kid at WDW but I don't want to feel rushed or ignored either.
Thanks!

Me, my partner and my mom are taking my kids at the end of the summer and we have ADR for Chef Mickey's. If the kids weren't going, I would still be there in a heartbeat and so would my partner. That is the only character meal we are doing because of $ but would not miss breakfast with Mickey! Of course we love breakfast too.;)

Hey, it's like Walt said - "You're dead if you aim only for kids. Adults are only kids grown up, anyway." It would be silly to feel like you couldn't fully enjoy a character meal, and I think the characters and CMs aim to entertain all guests and make them feel special...regardless of age.

I love going to character meals and so does my mum. I always enjoy them and I've never felt "passed over" because I wasn't dining with young children.

I'm in the minority. But I think it's a little weird. Not drink-your-own-urine weird or even blue-hair weird... but a little weird.

If you consider it weird, then I assume you also think that them just being at WDW is weird. Not only do I hope they go to the character breakfasts, but I want them to go on Dumbo, Its A Small World, & the Merry Go Round. In fact I want to see them on Dumbo reading the NY Times. Now that would be weird.

A friend of mine brought a copy of the New York Times to the Tower of Terror. In the ride photo, with everyone screaming, he's reading the paper.

FWIW, I never said just being at WDW as adults is weird. Also, I listed adults at a character meal as "a little" weird. It's not high up on the weird scale, but it does get a reading. It's measurable.

I know this because I have a weirdness detector.

I am not impressed by your friend. After all, how do we know if he was really reading the paper, he might have just been looking at it. Now, if he would be doing the Sunday CrossWord Puzzle, that would be impressive!!

He couldn't -- he had already finished the crossword on Rock-n-Roller Coaster.

DH and I had great interaction at Chef Mickey's and the Epcot Visa pic stop, not so good interaction with the face characters at 1900 PF. But - that's not stopping us from Tusker House and CP next trip! :)

To me, there's almost nothing better than getting a hug from an old friend. I wasn't sure I'd care when we went 2 years ago and finally made time for characters, but it just takes you right back to being a child again. :)

Interesting...our best interaction was at 1900 Park Fare.

That's some feat!

I think character interaction varies no matter who your party is comprised of. We did 4 Character Meals on our Honeymoon. Our best interaction was with the face characters. I had a hard time talking to characters who don't talk back. They pantomime stuff of course, but I find it hard to have conversations, and honestly, I don't enjoy being interrupted while eating. Due to that, we haven't been to a character meal since, but I'm tentatively planning at least 1...probably 2 for our next trip, because our son will be 2 or 3 and I think he'll appreciate it quite a bit.

Nobody ever made me feel awkward though, and they all gave us plenty of attention. I just tended to be ready for them to move on before they did.

.

Yeah, I was disappointed. Mary and Alice were perfectly polite, I guess is the right word. But they were just ready to move on. Though Alice was the best of the 3 - we ate towards the end of breakfast so the characters came around multiple times. While they didn't to us, she at least waved a couple more times. The Mad Hatter was the biggest disappointment, esp. after hearing so many good things. He almost looked bored plus he barely stayed. And he wasn't funny. Pooh & Tigger were great though.

This 35 and 32 year old do it all the time! Last trip alone, we had dinner at Chef Mickey's, breakfast at Tusker House and breakfast at CRT.
We've also done 'Ohana's character breakfast and 1900 Park Fare. We've always had great interaction.
I think the characters try to read the adults to see if they actually want to interact or not. Sometimes they do a good job, sometimes maybe not so much.

I can tell you that in January, it was my mother, BFF and I at 1900 Park Fare and Alice kept coming back to our table to chat. She loved us!

Go for it! You'll have a great time!

OK now I feel better about brkft at Tusker House; but wonder about the Garden Grill as a solo diner. Is it set with small tables along with those big booths? Usually dining alone doesn't bother me; but I'm curious will it be alight? silly i know.;)
