Is it usually busy during Columbus Day at Disney?

I've noticed that rates seem lower for September than for October, so was wondering if there is a pick up in people visiting Disney because of Columbus Day or is there another reason? I was planning to head to Orlando with my family for 12 days the 1st of October, but now wondering if we should do a last minute trip to Myrtle Beach and save our Disney visit for November. We have 4 little ones and we like going to Disney when the parks are at super low capacity so we aren't having to hold 3 babies in long lines all day. Thanks!

When we've been there Columbus Day week it has been fairly busy. Our school system takes that week off, as do some other southern schools. I think the Food & Wine Festival is also going on then.

November would definitely be quieter.

Look on Touring Plans what the crowd calendar looks like. It should be free for Columbus Day since it's less than a month out. That should give you an idea of the difference between September and October.

Personally speaking, we went the last week of September into October two years ago, and you could gradually see the upswing the later in the week it went.

Thanks! I guess we might try to drop in on a pass through to another location and do Disney another time later on:( I was really looking forward to spending our vacation in Disney, but with the 4 little ones, busy places just are not a good mix. Thanks!!

That is the week of Canadian Thanksgiving, so I think you will find the parks to be busy at that time. We were there during that week 8 yrs ago; when I planned our trip I didn't realize how bad the crowds would be.

We have been during this time and it has not been bad at all. We are actually going to be there during this time this yr too. Crowds were showing as 4's basically all week, somewhere was a 3 but I am not a subscriber and that isn't showing anymore on touringplans.com. We have the 2010 UG book but didn't want to pay the extra for the full subscription.

We plan to go one day that week to use our free tickets from volunteering. We'll try to pick the best weather day, of course, but would be interested in opinions on the least crowded day Mon - Thur.

I'm trying to get the kids to pick what they want to do on this one day trip, but no decisions so far. We were just there at Christmas and they've done it all before. So far they just say definitely not AK. We'll probably try to hit the highlights at a couple of parks. They'll be going for the big rides and no shows probably. None of us get too excited about the Food & Wine activities.
