Just back from a stay at Kidani. HAd savanna view in second pod to right of Lobby pod, 5th floor. I could see the whole savanna. The first night, there were tons of animals, with a um' something or other' spending the night below my balcony. After that, they 'passed through' rather than staying around.

It's nice being the first bus stop. I think at prime times like park closing, the two resorts should have seperate busses, like they do at the all stars. REALLY difficult to maneuver an ecv through crowds of people who are not getting off.
The 'sleeper' of Kidani is the WONDERFUL, FABULOUS, friendly and talented savanna guides. I attended the drum circle and lecture almost every night I was there - those kids are great! Livingroom is lovely and usually peaceful - a private public space. Community hall for families - I could see they would love it and miss it at Jambo.

Had meals at Sanaa (lunch, 10% DVC Disc) Tandoori chicken salad - the chicken was over done, but the rest of the meal was yum. Boma - what's not to like? Carrot Ginger soup makes a great dessert! Jiko - they treated me like a queen. Short ribs - fabulous!

My home resort is Jambo and this was my first stay at Kidani. The room itself was the same size as a value studio at Jambo - just the hall is longer and the bathroom larger and all "inside the door". Kinda wasted space if you ask me. The kitchen counter is about 15" wide and filled with coffee pot and toaster leaving maybe 10" square in which to "do something". The 'shelf' is a joke - about 4 inches of space beside the microwave. Lots of wasted space at the lockoff door - which is where I parked my ecv. I moved the coffee service stuff and ice bucket to the unreachable top shelf of the cupboard to have room lower down for my food and supplies.

Since I was alone, I didn't get in my own way, but I'd sure hate to try and live with more than two people in that room.

Can't wait for next year's trip, but hoping for a value room at Jambo. I'll have to trek over to Kidani for Drum Circle, though!

Thanks :goodvibes

You know this is going to sound bad, but I was not so sure I was going to be able to enjoy the cruise with the foot and all so I really never got excited about it, and did not plan on doing much, which if you follow my TRs you know is so unlike me, but I really think we are just going to relax and not do a whole lot.

We are going on Royal Caribbean, and we are headed to Caribbean.

We leave Baltimore and are at sea for three day, (my favorite time)
then on to Tortola, British Virgin Islands then St. John's, Antigua then Philipsburg, St. Maarten then on to Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas then on to San Juan, Puerto Rico then on to Labadee, Haiti and then two days at sea coming back to Baltimore....

the average temp is around 80 to 90 degrees, so it will be warm and I looking forward to cool waters, sun and cold drinks.:

Brandi, Your trip sounds fantastic! It sounds just perfect with you still healing. I am so happy for you and your sweetheart. :lovestruc How great that you are going out of Baltimore. I haven’t cruised Royal Caribbean....yet. Maybe next year. However, our big dream is going to Australia and New Zealand in 2013. We are looking into it now. :rolleyes1 Probably no cruising for that trip but hope to be gone for a few weeks to really see it. Our puppies probably won't speak to us for a week after we return. They have enough problems when we go for 2 weeks.

....anyhoo, my DH and I went to Lowe's yesterday to look at pre-finished wood flooring (like Pergo)....today, my two older DS's ripped out our old bedroom carpeting and installed it in less than 4 hours! Here are some pix with our new bed:

....I know, I know - I have to get a new bedskirt...whaddaya think?

Kim, it looks nice. How great that your sons did the difficult part for you. How cool it that. Love the color of the floor with you room and bedding colors.

How was the cruise?

Ooooooo! Enjoy your trip down under! About 12 years ago we spent 12 nights on the north island of NZ. There was a lot to do, but we had a very relaxed pace. I hope you have great time! Planning is half the fun!

We are staying at the AKL Nov. 6th - 15th CL. Our first stay in December was wonderful, my daughter doesn't want to do values again!! I can see why everyone loves AKL. We are going to stay 2 extra nights this trip because we didn't get to enjoy the resort as much as we had hoped, the parks kept us too busy!! Seeing the giraffes from our balcony everyday was awesome!!

Ann, I am starting to get excited about it... Going to go get passports today, or my son is going to get them out of the Safe Deposit box for me.

The trip your are planning is one we have wanted to do also. I really like cruising to place first, so I can get a feel for the place, then we tend to go back for more of a land visit. I have been to a couple of place via sea before that I was looking forward to and was so glad when we only spent a day there.

I have never been on Royal Caribbean (RCCL) before either, but David went BB (before Brandi), we mainly cruise Celebrity, we are Elite on Celebrity, and since RCCL owns Celebrity our "Status" rolls over, so we are Diamond on this trip and still get all the perks that go along with it.

The 30 minute drive to the port, with the son dropping us off and picking us up is just wonderful!

Ohh, are you going to do a TR so we can follow the planning?

kimmar are you paying attention............

I'll be checking into a savannah view room Friday at Kidani (i've always stayed at Jambo before), I'll let you know what I think about where we end up being located. I put in a request to be near an elevator and the buses.

Thanks! That would be awesome. I have never been to AKV so I am not overly familiar with the way it is set up and the view and whatnot.

Hope you enjoy your stay!

Good Morining J's & K's :)

Just wanted to drop in early (for me) and say Hi to everyone! I slept in this AM, (which I don't usually do) my back is really hurting so had a difficult time getting/staying asleep last night. I did too much yesterday, cleaning out the garage and organizing. But it sure looks nice! :thumbsup2

Wishing everyone a great day today. I will be back later to read and respond...going to see if I can get in for a correction with my chiropractor :thumbsup2

I posted this on the main Resort page yesterday, but didn't get many response. Perhaps you AKL veterans wouldn't mind giving me your opinion.

I'm trying to decide between these two options:

1.) AKL Arusha Savanna view with a discount for about $850. (Request for the Zebra trail, 3rd or 4th floor, halfway down.)

or

2.) Rent DVC points for a Jambo House Studio Savanna view for about $500 - $550.

I'd love to hear from anyone who has stayed in both the regular rooms and DVC. My main concern is the view. I'm afraid the DVC rooms won't have as good a view because they are higher. The bedding difference isn't an issue.

*Also, in case you were wondering, I previously posted a question about 5 in an AKL room. We have since decided to allow our daughter to bring only one friend on the trip, so we are back down to 4 in a room - 2 adults and 2 13 year olds.

Thanks!

I've not stayed in a non DVC room at Animal Kingdom before, but I will say that I've been on both the 4th and 5th floors DVC and have had excellent views on both, I don't think the view will get better or worse if you are DVC vs. non DVC, it's just all about location and Zebra Trail Arusha was the best view i've had (although I did stay in a value studio this past Aug for 2 nights which had what was called a partial view of the savannah as it was the end of a cul de sac type space and we had an awesome view of the animals not to mention 24/7 animals outside our room).
The nice part of a DVC studio besides the $$ savings is that you get more space, a mini kitchenette and free use of the DVC laundry on I believe the 4th floor.
