It's going to be our first time at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. We are Polynesian addicts and generally stay there. But this trip we found a room at AKL was cheaper than our usually Poly room, so we are giving it a try. I'm excited!

What do you all AKL Fans think are the most important things we try to do at the resort while we are there? We have a ressie at Jiko and that's the only part of the AKL I've been to before (other than the gift shop).

You're going to love it! I've always wanted to get to the Poly, maybe with annual pass discounts? fingers crossed. Anyway, things to do at AKL. I really enjoyed the evening talks with the CMs from Africa. They have a nightly 'education session' which was really neat. Also, we did the 'Wanyama Safari & Dinner' which was so amazing. It is on the pricey side, but does include dinner at Jiko with a wine tasting if you're into that, and all you can eat dinner (one negative is that they do have preset food selections, one of us was a vegetarian and they were able to accomodate us) Seeing the animals up close was a once in a lifetime experience! We were just on cloud nine for days. It is only available to guests at the resort, so if you're not sure you'll stay there again it's something to do. We'll definitely be doing it again. Oh, the flamingos are really fun to just watch, they're out by the pool.

I always do online check-in for 2 reasons:

1) It asks for arrival time and since I usually arrive in the morning, well before check-in time, I feel better thinking they "know" I will be there early! I have usually gotten my room right away or within an hour or 2 (even DVC stays).

2) I add my credit card # to the online check-in and don't have to take it out at the front desk. I've been told that's the safer way to do it.

We've done online check in before.....it doesn't seem to speed things up very much. Maybe a tiny bit.

The biggest difference was the line we waited in was much shorter...that's about it.

Thanks - I went ahead and did it for my AKV stay, so we'll see how it goes. I think I'll end up doing regular check in at the Poly as my request may be to be near my friends that are there.

Sorry to hear about DS! That stinks. And the day after is always the worst! Hope he's feeling better and on the mend.

Doesn't happen very often...usually due to "breakage" in a room...something like a plumbing issue that they can't resolve quickly. Coming in VERY late actually helps your chances (though it also increases your chances of getting an HA room, if that's all they have left), since they cover the "breakage" rooms last.

Ahh, that makes sense!!! What a great upgrade though!!!

You'll totally get there some day! The POLY is amazing - like a tropical vacation on top of being at Disney.

I've been lurking on this thread (and the old one!) for about a month now. You guys are chatty!

I'm going to be renting DVC points at AKV Jambo for our trip next year. I'm so freaking excited! I've never stayed there and the pictures look absolutely beautiful. I'm sure it doesn't do the place justice. I've stayed in Wilderness Lodge before and I've heard if you love one, you'll love the other. I'm hoping this rings true because WL is my favorite deluxe.

I have a long ways to go. I'm jealous of all the people going in a few days!

Hey Jamborini's and Kidanites!!!! Hope you all had a better day than I did.............. so, DH and I are getting ready to head out to get last minute stuff and yada yada......... then, duh duh duh......................... we get a call from DS's p.e. teacher................. he got hit with a ball in p.e. and they thought his jaw was fractured.............. so, after ALLLLLLLLL day at the dr. and xray place............. we finally get the word that even though it's bruised and swollen........... it's NOT broken, thank the good lord!!!!!!!!! What a day.............. but on the bright side, we only have 3, yes 3, can I get a whoop whoop for 3 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did I tell you guys I NEEEEEEEEEED a vacation??!!!!

So, i'm having a glass of sangria and a blueberry muffin.................... then I'm gonna soak in the tub and dream of zebra domes that'll be in my tummy on friday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was thinking about trying it this time since I've got a standard studio booked on points...I know it'll be a pool view, so didn't know if I should just do online check-in.



Glad he will be ok and that it wasn't broken. I think that may have called for a couple glasses of sangria!

Not sure why we got the upgrade but I was happy we got it.

We did arrrive late (nearly 11 pm) but it was also my birthday and our anniversary. I am saying it was pixie dust for those reasons.
