Congrats on 1,500 posts! :banana::banana::banana:

We received a beaded lion in December for our 32th Anniversary. Zawadi Marketplace sells the beaded animals. The picture of the two giraffes was taken in the lounge.

Thank you Kathy :goodvibes

So you have to be married 32 years to get one of those cuties from concierge. :lmao:

Thank you for posting all the pictures. I seem to be drawn to those beaded animals. :rolleyes1 I don't remember seeing them on our last visit. Have to make sure to check them out on our next trip.

We could still be waiting on Kimmar's mini TR when Brandi gets back! :rolleyes1

OMG, I was sipping some ice tea when I read this Alison. Just about sprayed the entire computer. :lmao::rotfl::laughing:

I shoot with a Nikon D80 DSLR, with a 80 mm to 200 mm vibration reduction lens.

I think for my b'day i am getting a D 7000 but will have to wait and see.

Thank you for the information. Don't you love those vibration reduction lens...also know as shaky hands lens. For those who have a little too much.......fun. ;)

I have one on my old camera and use it often.

I keep a P&S in my purse, those were from our 2007 stay, but I think the ones I posted came from our Canon Rebel. We usually bring both to WDW and other vacations. Most of the other pictures are with th P&S which I have been through 3-4 in the last 5 years.

Thanks Alison, I really like p&s for while out and touring or riding rides. But a good camera is going to be our next big purchase. I have seen many good things about the Canon Rebel and I believe they have a new one out now or will be soon. Hopefully I can convience DH that "it is a necessary item" Maybe for mothers day? :rolleyes1

This was the picture I ment to quote on my last post. I love the carved stand they have the large guy standing on. Gonna have to get me a beaded zoo!

Hi all, this is a great thread with some great info and beautiful pics. I look forward to trying to get through it all :)

So new here and considering AKL for a trip in Dec. between xmas and new year. We are sort of new to disney. We went for the first time in 17 years this past fall and fell in love. We stayed at CSR and loved it but the pics of AKL just call my name so for the next trip I think this is it. Still working out the details and trying to get as much info as possible. Hope I don't bother you with all my questions.

Anyone ever been to AKL between xmas and new year? Thoughts? Room suggestions for a first timer??

TIA

Good morning, Js & Ks! :sunny:

I cannot believe this thread is still kicking!

KEPE - Many of us have been to AKL over the holidays. My family goes almost every year from about December 15-27 and we love it. This is the most crowded time of the year to visit WDW but worth it in our minds. If you haven't been in 17 years you may find the sheer numbers of people who visit at this time to be overwhelming, but don't let it "get you down" since the decorations and overall spirit of the parks more than make up for the numbers.

As for a room choice, any are good! Some are better and others are best! ;) Budget would help you decide what room level is best for you. Keep asking questions... we are a friendly bunch. (Well, except for kimmar... but that is a looooong story...)

I laughed at this and I so agree with you!! :goodvibes I think it may have just been decided that we are NOT going to Disneyland in May. :sad2: Instead we get to redo the upstairs bath :headache: (yes, it does really need it), but I'd still rather have a Disney trip!

I'm not sure what your plans are (or what your level of "handiness" is), but I thought I'd offer these up, anyway. :)

Words of warning from someone who has seen many a bathroom redo go horribly wrong:

Do not do your own tile (but your own grout is fine)...unless you've done it before (and have a good tile saw) OR you're using that stuff that's affixed to wire mesh. The other exception? Doing your own backsplashes should be fine.

Never try to do your own plumbing (unless you're a plumber or a good GC). It almost always costs you more, in the end. Note: I'm not talking about replacing fixtures (like a sink)....but the actual pipework that connects everything.

Never try to do your own electrical (unless you're an electrician). It almost always cost you more, in the end (and could have negative implications on your homeowners insurance). Note: I'm not talking about fixtures (like that beautiful Tiffany fan/light combo you've been eyeing) but the wiring that connects everything.

Budget about 10% to 15% more than you think you'll spend. Like kitchens...bathrooms seem to eat money.

They say when building...measure twice, cut once. With bathrooms..measure thrice, recheck it again, and THEN cut. I've seen people flub the measurement for their back splash and come up short on material and waste $75 in tile because they keep measuring that corner piece JUST slightly wrong...among other things.

Know your sink drain, personally. Rear drain, bottom drain, front drain, P traps, S traps (pray you don't have one of these) and Drum traps...know what you have now so you can either buy the same type....or budget for replacement plumbing to accommodate the type you want.

Combining the above 2 tips: When you measure for your sink....make sure you're measuring for the right mount (under or over). It sounds like a "no duh" type of tip...but you'd be surprised at the number of people I know who have had to do the "Home Depot walk of shame", and return that gorgeous undermount sink because they mis-measured their counter opening.

And most important: If you plan on doing the work "together", work in marital counseling to the budget. :cool1:
