Is it true that my TV will be obsolete?

I have a non-disgital tv. No cable. Someone told me that in 2 years there will be no more analog tv signals broadcasted and with no cable my tv will be just a big paperweight.
Say it ain't so.
Does anyone know- are the 13" Mickey Tvs analog also-? I have 2 of them.

You will have to buy a box for $50 for it but it will still work. But yes, all broadcasts will eventually be in digital.

Thanks- I see Jan 1, 2009- no more analog signal but converter devices will be made available for approx $50 each. That is pretty far off- We may need a new tv by then anyway- and I will be sure to get digital.
Are those Mickey TVs analog? They should stop selling those analog TVs.

dh has been telling me over and over about this.. thats why he made me take back that cute princess TV.. :guilty:

technology changes constantly but back in the day when I worked for Comcast, I would advise some of the customers that they could hook their vcr up to the tv that was the dial type tv so you could get the upper channels. I'm wondering if that is still the same, analog tv, hook up a digital vcr & watch the channels using your vcr as the "converter box" ?? anyone know? this may save some worries....

I believe the Television manufacturers have target dates in which they have to have start making TV with digital Tuners. 13 inches to 24 inches Sets should be by March 1, 2007. Sets under 13 inches will also have to have digital tuners by that date. Mid-sized sets, screens from 25 inches to 36 inches, be digital-ready by March 1, 2006.

I'm sure they are. Pretty much anything that's not labeled HDTV or HDTV Ready is just regular old analog.

They've been saying this for years now though.

Don't worry yet--the deadline for no more analog signals has come and gone many times already.

I heard the government wants to allocate 3 billion dollars to help people buy boxes. I swear, only in America does the government want to spend that much money to help people watch TV...as if the majority of overweight Americans NEED any more incentive to watch TV!!

I understand why they want to switch, but it's probably going to jack up the cost of the TV's. Rather than buy a $50 box, I think by then I'll probably just get a new TV.

I hadn't heard that--what are they proposing to replace them with? Sheesh, just when you get a decent movie library built up they always have to change the technology! Makes me wonder how many times in my lifetime I'll end up buying my favorite movies in various forms
