Is it too early to rent points for 12/05?

I dont think so, we rented points in Feb 05 for next Jan 06 at the 11 month window.

NO! It could actually be too late - some dates/views/categories are already completely booked.

December is a very popular time for DVC members to use their points. The sooner you get something arranged, the better.

I agree with Carol. Depending on where you want to stay and the size accommodations, you may actually be too late already. I know some early December dates are completely sold out for some resorts already. Good luck.

I agree. We booked our rooms at the BCV at the 11 month window (2 studios) and we were told then that a lot of them had gone for Christmas week (we are going from the 21st Dec - 2nd Jan). I would book as soon as you can.

Is there a way to verify availabilty before renting points from an owner?

Nope. Only the owner can check on availability and rent you the points. Even if you could check, an hour later there might be nothing open (I've had it happen to me!). Once they make the ressie in your name, the owner will get a confirmation number they can pass along to you. In a couple of weeks or so, the owner will get a confirmation letter with your name on it. They can then send a copy of the letter to you so you have your reservation "in hand". Although you can't call to check availability or make ressies, you can call in with your confirmation number and re-confirm that you do indeed have a reservation.
