Ok, Disney just announce a new DVC complex and new 3 bedroom tree houses (65, I believe) along with the proposed 4 seasons golf resort opening up in 2012.

Is it time to develop a new theme park? Hey, all these extra people have to go some where?

What do you think? Any suggestions for a new park?

Yes yes yes! I would love a new park! I like the idea that's been floating around (is it called Night Kingdom or something?) that sounds funky. Anything Disney and I'll be happy though!
xx

They actually are working on a new theme park, but it's not really the same as the 4 parks we have now. Check out these articles- they explain it :)

First article about it:

I don't exactly believe Jim when it comes to these matters, but I got a good laugh out of it.

please don't encourage Jim... he has an active imagination. it will be the 2020 time frame before a 5th gate is announced

The whole idea sounds great. However, at a cost of $250 - $300 per person, you can count me out. Especially with them already starting to cut corners! I would much rather have an entirely new park that you could pay regular admission prices to enter.

I say probably not! Too much. If I wanted to go to the zoo I'd stay home & spend alot less. I'd love to see a coaster park themed around Disney villians!!! Now that would be AWESOME!!!!!!

Thanks I was having a pretty bad day at work, now after reading those articles I had a pretty good giggle. :rotfl: :rotfl2:

I'd be happy if they'd just FINISH Animal Kingdom. I've been waiting for the Beastly Kingdom since it opened.

I would have to agree that a theme park with nothing but coasters would be AWESOME!!!!:cool1: I'm a coaster fanatic and that would definitely peak my interest. I live only an hour or so away from one of the best coaster parks in the country--Cedar Point!! So, even though I LOVE WDW, I think they need to have something with a bit more coaster added. I mean we have a few, but a whole park?!?!? :scared1: I'd be estactic!!!!

Honestly, I hope they DON'T open a new theme park for quite some time. We can usually only afford the stay 5-6 days each trip, and getting all four parks in that time frame was a challenge this last go round, when we had five full days to enjoy the parks. Throwing another park into that mix seems like a huge time pressure to me. I'd much rather have them focus their attention on the current parks and keeping them fresh and full of new rides and attractions. Animal Kingdom has been around for 10 years now, and I'm still waiting for them to completely finish it! ;)

First of all, I try to avoid discussions like this because it seems as if people who frequently go to Disney parks are always looking for "more" to do.
Goodness knows, central Florida is loaded with things to do. Anyone who is in love with coasters can surely go to Universal. And there are other theme parks within easy driving distance.
I'd love to see Animal Kingdom finished also. If you've ever done any research on the different sizes of the current parks, you'd find that there's LOADS of room to expand AK. And considering there are things that barely draw a crowd in some of the parks, maybe they could tweak things here and there.
Disney has a good basic design -- you can tell because all over the world other parks have been copying them for years.
I can live without thrill rides. Disney has a sampling (and some of the more original ones) for those who need that thrill. :-)
Now, be nice. No bashing. It's just my opinion............

Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdon and - - - Sports World!:yay: I can see it- a Baseball, Football, Basketball and Hockey section. Of course you could have golf, tennis, etc - just not entire dedicated sections. Think of the posibilities; A coaster type ride where you get in a hockey puck and get slapped around the ice, or get in a baseball and get "pitched and hit". Sports stars there, gifts shops could be amazing. I can see it now!:woohoo:

From a practical standpoint, it'll be time for a new theme park when Disney can fully staff all their current positions with the best possible workers.

But, from an emotional standpoint, yeah, it's time! It's been more than a decade since AK opened, so it's time go get busy! :woohoo:

Actually, I'd be happy if they just added another themed land onto AK (complete with a super headliner attraction of course), did a complete refurb on all the attractions that need it throughout the property, and added a few more attractions to DHS. If they did that over the next few years, I'd be ecstatic.

Not yet time for a totally new park, just continue to tweak and develop the 4 current parks. As PPs have said, it's often tough to fit all 4 parks into a week as it is and I agree that staffing would be a significant issue right now.

I doubt we'll see a new gate in the near future. I don't think that Night Kingdom thing is going to fly either.

A few things (maybe) more likely:
- A little more filling in of Animal Kingdom.
- Perhaps another country in Epcot
- Perhaps a permanent replacement to Wonders of Life
- Hollywood Studios could use a little more help too
- A little more of a stretch: if InBev/Busch decides to unload Sea World and Discovery Cove, it would be interesting if Disney gets involved

The only reason for opening a new park is to increase revenue. The 4 parks were opened with the master plan to keep people at WDW for a week rather than have then going elsewhere, and for the most part it worked. A 5th park would (again mostly) cannabilize revenue from the other parks - people in general would not stay longer, they'd just adjust there park days. The only way a 5th park would work is if WDW gets so crowded that the existing 4 parks are always running near capacity, which is not yet an issue.

The BS that Jim Hill talks about is most likely scenario for a 5th park...a "high end" park that would make more money off of less people. The only thing is with the economy the way it is, Disney is unlikely to do this anytime soon.

BTW, this is what DVC is as well, higher profits off of less people...and as opposed to hotel rooms which have no guarantee of being filled, DVC resorts are not only "sold out" 100 % of the time, the "owners" are pre-paying a huge deposit for their rooms. This is why Disney Corp is getting into a broader time-share business - Opening that place in hawaii. Timeshares are much more financially viable for companies than hotels, because you get a lot of your money back up-front. It also means not a big load added to the parks...as timeshare "owners" spend more time at their resorts, and they are actually not adding a lot of people with each resort. (If you think about the contemporary tower, they didn't actually add any rooms, because they knocked down an existing wing to put that up.)

Enough rambling,
SkierPete

How about a Disney themed version of Cedar Point??? I'm an hour east of Cedar Point and there is no doubt it's the coaster capitol of the world! The basis could be all villian themed coasters....hmmmmm....maybe we should be imagineers????

I've thought about this same thing when we talk about these new resorts. Which I'm very excited about that too, but where are they going to put all these people? I'd also love to see a new park, but don't see it happening too soon.
