Is it tacky to share a meal at a sitdown restaurant? Ex. 50's Prime Time Cafe?

We have QS plan so we won't be having any meals at sit down restaurants.

I've been reading so much about "must" restaurants which majority of them are sit down restaurants.

I was thinking if party of 4 (all adults) go to sit down restaurant, ex. 50's Prime Time Cafe, and order 2 or 3 meals instead of 4 meals, will it be tacky and be frowned upon?

A Sampling of Mom's Favorite Recipes in 50's Prime Time Cafe is calling me! LOL!

Or for experience, was thinking of trying Si Fi Dine-In Theater but not really crazy about wasting money by order 4 meals when we have QS.

I haven't read any positive reviews of QS restaurants in Hollywood Studios so not sure where we can have 2 meals in HS.

I do all the time at 50s PT because the base meals don't suit me. I get the salad and onion rings and I usually finish what my girls do not eat.

I've shared a meal with DH at 50's PT and the Sci-Fi. No problem either way. :) They're not going to refuse to let you share.

We all love 50sPT's desserts - so sometimes some of us order meals and some of us just order dessert and share. I don't think its tacky at all. We love 50sPT.

My DD & I always share a meal there. There's never been an issue.

Agreed. My sister and I shared the Tonga Toast at Kona. It's just too big and I hate wasting. We got some extra bacon and fruit and tipped well so I don't feel guilty.

sharing makes more room for dessert! and yes, saves money and is less wasteful! As for quick service, i loved Mill and Bill's Dockside quick service. It's adorable and the food was great. I had the turkey leg, and a shake (those are great, like a Frosty), and it was a great use of a QS.. then i ate there again the same day and got the pot roast mac n cheese, and another shake!

Staring Rolls is good quick service at HS

I don't think it's ever tacky to order what you would like to eat at any restaurant. Their business is to put together offerings that suit diners. That said, I do try to be sensitive to the wait staff who are assigned to my table. No matter how little we order, we always tip as if we had ordered regular meals for our party. The waiters still have to check on us just as frequently, no matter how little we eat.

Agreed just tip as if you all ordered an entree. When we went we split a caesar salad and the favorite platter. We tipped like we both got the favorite platter.

My husband would NEVER want to share a meal at a restaurant. NEVER. So I would be forced to order an appetizer because I'm not a big eater. And then on one trip to Disney World, I really wanted to eat at Sci Fi and so did he (for the movies) and I talked him into getting ONE burger for the two of us to share and he was so against it. He thought it was stupid, that the servers would hate us, etc. So I told him to relax and I'd handle it. We got the burger, cut in two in the kitchen, plus a full side of fries each, my "garden" was neatly on the side and all was well.

And now? We share all the time everywhere, not just at Disney World. We just say "we are sharing X and please bring an extra plate" and that's it.

If you are having trouble finding two QS that appeal to you in DHS and you don't want to pay for a TS, perhaps take a quick boat ride or walk over to the Boardwalk and get QS at the Boardwalk Bakery? The food is REALLY good and the atmosphere on the Boardwalk is so nice.

Is HS that close to Boardwalk that we can walk over? Where do you ride the boat? In HS? Thank you

It's about a 15 minute walk or a 10-20 minute boat ride. The boats board outside the gates across from the bus lots.

My DW and I share meals very often, sometimes just one entree, other times may split 2 meals

You can also order smaller portions than are on the menu. Last trip at 50s prime time I ordered one piece of fried chicken with a vegetable side and they did that for me... I just can't eat three pieces of chicken and two sides.

DH & I share an entree often, but we usually order 1 or 2 (usually 2) appetizers & 2 desserts as well. The entree is mostly for DH, because I prefer appetizers & dessert. Obviously, our bills aren't exactly cheap, so we've never had a server appear annoyed. I do agree with some of the others on this thread that those who split entrees & don't order anything else, should tip based on everyone getting an entree. No server would want a table with customers that share food & tip based on the amount of the low bill. You can't blame them. None of us would want to work for half pay. The only exception I can see for this is if the sharing table is ordering a lot of alcoholic beverages, which would raise the bill significantly.

This. Tipping is what I think frustrates the servers, most likely. My fiance and I were there with my parents, and we split meals. Especially on our Epcot day, because we eat and drink around the world that we're not especially hungry at dinner. We ate at Tutto Italia, fiance and I split a meal, my parents split a meal, and we order a bottle of wine, but we tipped around 30-35% of the bill. Makes sense for us most of the time -- we're just not big eaters.

This whole issue is one of the reasons I think tipping based on the cost of the food is stupid. That and because if I get the cheap $ vegetarian entree does the server really do less work then if I ordered lobster?

Now I do it anyway since that is the social convention. I just don't like it.

My DW and I often split meals at WDW restaurants because the portions are so big. We'll split an appetizer and usually get dessert that way and we don't feel like we ate too much. We've never had an issue at any of them.
