Is it tacky to share a meal at a sitdown restaurant? Ex. 50's Prime Time Cafe?

This whole issue is one of the reasons I think tipping based on the cost of the food is stupid. That and because if I get the cheap $ vegetarian entree does the server really do less work then if I ordered lobster?

Now I do it anyway since that is the social convention. I just don't like it.

Exactly this!

This. Tipping is what I think frustrates the servers, most likely.

If they are getting frustrated by that, maybe it's time to look for a new job.

I don't think you have to tip on 'what you might have ordered'. Some families order pasta and some order lobster. It all evens out in the end.

ps OP did not ask about tipping. She asked about sharing meals.

I don't think it's ever tacky to order what you would like to eat at any restaurant. Their business is to put together offerings that suit diners. That said, I do try to be sensitive to the wait staff who are assigned to my table. No matter how little we order, we always tip as if we had ordered regular meals for our party. The waiters still have to check on us just as frequently, no matter how little we eat.
Not true. If you order more food, they have to deliver more items, add more condiments, and clean up more mess.

Agree about the tipping thing. I always tip heavy if I order light on the food but heavy on the work. I used to split all the time when I was still married, neither of us were big eaters. Now I am traveling alone with my son and we don't eat the same things so I do more buffets so I can self serve and not feel compelled to finish what is on my plate, plus there are characters and there is variety for him. I do wish it would be a flat service fee or even servers paid a living wage but that is a discussion for another day.

Not really. If you split a dish and you tell your server ahead of time, the Chef generally splits the meal in the kitchen, and so the server is delivering the same amount to the table. I will often split an entrée or appetizers and have always been served my own portion on my own plates.

We have QS plan so we won't be having any meals at sit down restaurants.

I've been reading so much about "must" restaurants which majority of them are sit down restaurants.

I was thinking if party of 4 (all adults) go to sit down restaurant, ex. 50's Prime Time Cafe, and order 2 or 3 meals instead of 4 meals, will it be tacky and be frowned upon?

A Sampling of Mom's Favorite Recipes in 50's Prime Time Cafe is calling me! LOL!

Or for experience, was thinking of trying Si Fi Dine-In Theater but not really crazy about wasting money by order 4 meals when we have QS.

I haven't read any positive reviews of QS restaurants in Hollywood Studios so not sure where we can have 2 meals in HS.

I don't think it's tacky at all. The portions look so big, it can be too much for one person. If you feel funny about it, maybe order an apetizer as well. I'm sure it's pretty common.

We've shared meals at 50's and other restaurants.

The last time we were at 50's we ordered 4 LI iced teas (2 each) so our bill was probably more than if someone order 2 entrees and water! We tipped based on what we ordered.
