In my area, aide positions are hard to find for a few reasons. 1) Many districts are RIF'ing certified teachers so these certified teachers are now becoming VERY highly qualified aides 2) These aide positions are equipped with health insurance and benefits.
The schedule seems amazing. I wish I had that schedule again. Now I'm out the door at 645 am and back at 5 pm every day.
As a former aide and teacher, I know that principals will gloss over the details just to fill an aide position. As a former teacher, you knew it was worth asking to see the IEP/504, or asking a "general" question about the child. (Depending on your credentials, some districts will show a non identifying page of the IEP to you which just lists the services needed)
If you are happier at home with the dishes and laundry so be it. I will say in my area, there are many many many uneemployed teachers who would love this opportunity just so they can continue pension/health benefits after they have been RIF'd.
Subbing might be a better option for you. That way you are committed to certain days only. I subbed for 6 years.
