Is it rude?

We will be in Orlando 14 days beginning April 1st. We are planning on going to the parks every other day, as we have a two and 5 year old. However, I learned two lessons last trip - 1 make sure to have PS, as it is an excellent break and the restaurants are great: 2 Be flexible, don't plan everything to the detail, as weather, tolerance levels and crowds change things.

With these two lessons in mind, do you think it is rude to get "extra" PS's? I am not talking about getting three different ones for the same dinner, just because we can't decide which park to go to, but more like one PS a day, just in case we end up at a park. Opinions?

Thanks in advance!

It would be best if you could call to cancel at the very least the morning of the PS. I would assume you'd know by then if you'll be there that night.

I don't know how busy it will be those two weeks, but it may not be neccessary to make a PS for every meal.

I wouldn't think it would be rude at all...

No, not rude at all. Once you do have an idea what you'll be doing, based on weather and tolerance, just cancel out the PS you are not doing. It's not a reservation, just a priority spot. Your spot will go to either a walk up or a last minute caller.

Maybe not rude but certainly inconsiderate!! You are blocking others from getting the PS they want by makeing PS that you won't be using. Yes, I think it is wrong to do that.

I don't think it is rude at all. I call it covering all the bases. I do agree that you should try to cancel 24 hours in advance if you know you won't be keeping one.

Also traveling w/ a 2 and 5 yr old but the end of Apr/May. I have made mult PS's on different days alternating a lunch and dinner. As the trip draws nearer, or maybe even the morning of, I will call and cancel the PSs we won't be needing. Have done this before no problem.

What I wish I could do...is book a lunch in 2 parks for the same day and then cancel one when I was sure of our plans. But I was told by a CM you can take the chance...but quite often they'll do a search on the computer and double reservations for the same meal will be flagged and they'll arbitrarily cancel one!! It might not be the one you would have cancelled.

So...you're ok, as long as you're not booking 2 PS's for the same meal time.

Hope that helps.
Janet

On very busy days such as July 4th, they will take your CC number when you make a PS. I doubt they'd actually charge anything on it if you didn't show up, but they do intend it as a deterrent for people making PS's they can't or won't use.

Okay I have a question - we want to make a PS for dinner at LTT on the 4th of July. I have been told that MK may be full and we wouldn't be allowed in for our PS. Would I be charged if that was the case, also shouldn't I have a back up PS for that night for dinner in case we are unable to get into MK. I would make it for about 2 hours later that way I could cancel if we were able to get into LTT.

Yes if it is a busy time you are taking someone spot who knows what they want for resv. thats like i found that people book the fireworks boats for more then one day so they can pick 2 weeks before there trip. there are only 12 boats. so you have to keep calling . I see your problem but if you are staying 14 days you should be able to eat all the places you want. good luck.

As others have stated it is not rude as long as you cancel the PS' you aren't going to use. In fact, recently when making a ps I was wondering with the CM about EMH schedules that had yet to be released. She suggested I make two PS' and then when the EMH schedule is released and we know for sure what park we are going to, calling back and cancelling the one I won't be using. It is really difficult sometimes to predict what exactly is going to fit your needs since you make your ps' 90 days out before park hours and EMH schedules are released. Believe me, even if you don't cancel (which you should) somebody else will get your spot one way or the other! If Disney was that worried about this they would ask for a cc guarantee with every PS.

Yes, you would be charged. It's your responsibility to be in the park you're supposed to be in for your PS. Granted, it's Disney closing the park at capacity, but they have no obligation to make sure you can get in -- that's your job.

On a day like July 4, making two dinner PS's is truly taking a PS away from someone else who is trying to find a PS on a very busy day. And ... you'll have to give a CC number for both ressies. If, by some chance, things get busy and you don't have time to cancel one -- or if you can't get through due to heavy phone volume -- you will find a charge on your card. Plus, a day like J4 -- you KNOW it's going to be busy that day. If you want so badly to eat at LTT that day, then you need to plan your day around that.

Any time they take a CC for PS they will charge it. You have a certain number of days in which to cancel before your cc is charged. I think it is 5 days.

Yes, you would be charged. To get out of the charge, when you get to MK and it is full, you will need to go to guest services outside the park to prove that you were there and they will fully return your $ to your CC. We go to MK for Christmas dinner every year. Once it was filled to capacity when we got there. Luckily, just before our PS they let us in, so we made it!

That happened to use a couple of years ago on New Years Eve. The only PS I could get for that night was at the Concourse Grill in the Contemporary. I had given my credit card to hold it and was told if I didn't cancel more that 24 hrs in advance I would be charged $25.00 per person. However, 4 hours before our PS I found out that the park was at capacity and if we left we would probably not be allowed back in. I called to find out if I could cancel my PS and not be charged and they said yes- no problem. We ended up eat at Cosmic Rays not my first choice but OK.
I have since heard that they are no longer requiring CC to hold any holiday PS (except CRT Breakfast). We have PS at the Biergarten for Easter and they didn't ask for CC.
I think you should be OK if you can try to get there early.
(While we were there for Christmas they had closed and opened MK 3 times in one day so you may get lucky and it may be open again later.)

I guess I am in the minority. I don't think it's rude per se, but I agree that it's somewhat inconsiderate. It would seem, if you cancelled the PS well in advance, it would be better, but cancelling the day of or 24 hours before, does not give anyone else much of a chance to use that time slot.

The OP wasn't talking about making multiple PSs for the same meal, just one PS per day. That isn't rude at all! Some people have more than one for every meal!

I would concur that calling at your earliest convenience to cancel is the best way to go though. Even if it is the same day, someone else will enjoy your spot. :)

The way we think of PSs is, in a perfect world, these are the places we would like to eat. Often it seems, if you don't make a PS in WDW, you won't be sitting down to a restaurant meal because every place is booked. So making them for every day and canceling is just making sure you will have the chance to have a nice sit down meal with your family.

Personally, I think PSs are insane now and hate the system. It sucks that you have to plan this stuff out so far in advance, or you don't eat in a sit-down restaurant, but those are the facts, so its better to make plans for your family than be stuck at the food court.

But how else could it be done? First come, first served would be a nightmare.

Interesting...so do you know how much they actually charge? What is the total based on?

I thought that they took your phone number and name, so you couldnt book several PS's - I know people who have been called by Disney to say.. "you have 2 PS's - which one do you want?"
