Is it really worth the trouble lugging your own water?

Okaaaaay.......

I'm aware of the beverages available. I'm not positive, but I think I even saw PowerAde there last time. If you can stand all that sugar, go for it. I was just pointing out that anyone who thinks they are getting hydrated on Coke is going to end up miserable.

Water really is the healthiest and quickest way to get re-hydrated but I certainly understand that some folks find it un-drinkable. I do think that no matter how much you think is too much, you should drink everything you get your hands on when in Florida in the summer. You may think 5 bottles of water is too much but you're sweating out waaaay more than you realize. By the time you feel rotten, it's too late.

We freeze a water bottle...DANITI...or whatever...then carry the one bottle with us...in our backpack...as it melts we drink and refill all day...we are family so we share....DM, DD, DS...I rinse it out in the sinks each time so we drink all day and just have the one bottle. :sunny:

There are PLENTY of water fountains to fill them up!

SAVE your money for souveniers!!! :earsgirl:

We carry frozen water bottles with us as well as frozen juices just for a change. My dh is practically a camel (must be all the time in Iraq) and has to drink probably 5 bottles a day and in the summer easily 8, no kidding. He will insist that I drink at least 4 and that pushing it for me, which is why I drink juice in between. Don't drink alot of things with sugar in them unless you drink the same amount of water. If you have never experienced real heat and humidity you will be in for a shock. We carry a backpack anyways for snacks and sun screen and my inhaler and other odds and ends that we both need. I just put everything in ziploc bags.

We carried bottled water with us last fall- we brought 1 bottle per person and filled them with water from the fountain when we ran out. If you get sick of plain water, Crystal light and Wal Mart make single serve (enough for a 20 oz bottle) packets of powdered drink mix. I used them, and they made the MK water more palatable.

I am amazed at how many people don't like water :confused3

I drink a big water bottle EVERYDAY in addition to my meal drinks. It's healthy and it does the job. Caffeine and sugar will not hydrate you the same way. Plus they are more calories and I think more filling.

It's not worth it to lug water bottles to WDW IMO. Theres no way I will carry bottles of water around the park and they won't stay cold. When I want a drink I want it ice cold and after I'm done I toss the bottle. The few $$ savings is not worth the inconvenience to me.

Add me to the list that hates water. Blech! I need something in it to flavor it.... :guilty: We may try to bring bottles with us and refill...dh drinks a gallon of water a day as it is, let alone in the FL heat/humidity :sunny:
If we don't like carting the btls with us (we'll have a backpack) we'll get free ice water.

It worked out for us. We went on a "budget" trip in March. I bought one of the water bottles, and it fit in my mickey tote...I didn't carry it filled all the way, when I was thristy I just filled it up at a fountain. The water is usually pretty cold. I don't know how it would work out in hotter weather, when we went it was only 70-75 (perfect!)

I get dehydrated very easily and when I do I get VERY dizzy, faint feeling, blurred vision, and my blood pressure will drop. Consequently I am used to drinking ALOT of water every day. I seldom drink sodas because of their sodium content and always order water at restaraunts. When we were there in January I forgot my Brita water bottle one day and started getting fuzzy and dizzy during the parade at MK. I was in the front next to the rope and there was no way I could get out of there without falling down. My son saw me grab for the rope and go 'white as a ghost' as he put it and knew what was wrong. He pushed me down to sit on the curb, pushed his way out, got a cup of ice water from the nearest counter service, then had to push his way back to the front of the crowd to get the water to me. Someone thought I was a diabetic and tried to give me candy to get my blood sugar back up, but I knew immediately that my blood pressure had dropped due to dehydration and standing still too long. I felt bad even a couple of hours later and had to go back to the room. After that embarrassing and scary experience, you better believe I'll have water close by where I can get to it frequently and regularly. If I have to stand in line to get it, I would not be near as apt to drink the water I need.

For me it's not the expense, but just the convenience of having water close at hand. I will be going back to WDW solo in two weeks. With the heat and humidity in Orlando, I know I will need it more than usual. I have an insulated carrier for my Brita bottle and will freeze it the night before.

What a good son you have. :)

I love water, it is the healthiest drink. When we have been to Florida before it has been in February so I have not needed to carry water. This year going in July so we are all carrying a water bottle with us, to sip continually.

Remember if you feel thirsty you are already dehydrated. The trick is to top up on water throughout the day and avoid things like coke, tea, coffee, alcohol.

I am in England so have no idea what a Brita bottle is, could someone kindly explain what one is? Many thanks.

If me and me DH drank 3 drinks each per day say at $2 each drink, that's $12 day x 7 days = $84 + tax.

2 Brita water bottles = $16 + tax
Backpack to carry stuff making sure to have room for 2 bottles = $30 (max)
Total = $46 + tax.

Um... ??? $30 savings..

Plus the fact DH loves water and I hate water (no matter where it's from even bottled water.) I can drink it though if I have to if I'm having a meal.

Whatever happened to the $15 a day meal plan your husband was imposing on you? Sorry if you updated, I just didn't see it.

I got Brita's on clearence for about $5/piece. I bought 5 of them, but I am thinking we will only bring 3 to the parks and share. There are 5 of us so the price of the bottles will add up fast. If you can get free ice water, then we can refill the britas with ice during the day. I also plan to freeze some regular bottles and then filter the fountain water through the Brita and pour that over the ice. When I looked at the temps from last year for our dates, the "coldest" day was 93 degrees.

For us it's a huge savings. DH and I EACH drink 2 liters of water a day. We do have the sroller though...thats where the brita bottles are kept. Have a great trip!

I always carry my own water to the parks and the we "hydrate" all the time. I really like the large sport bottles with the tops that pop up. That way, we can tip back our heads, aim the bottle and squirt right into our mouths with out everyone's lips hitting the bottle top (germ phobic kids). If a little splashes on our shirts, that's even better in Florida in July. I never wait for the kids to tell me they are thirsty, every half hour or so, I just say "open up, time for a squirt" and they love it. Now that they are bigger, if they want their own personal bottle, they have to carry it. The great thing with water bottles is by the end of the morning/day, your backpack is lighter because the water is all gone.

if you don't plan on having a backpack with you anyway, then I don't think the cost savings is worth it, myself. I bring a backpack along on all WDW trips but I don't carry the bag everyday. On days when I do carry the bag I might put snacks and drinks inside, it just depends on our plans for the day and how hot it would be.

I also vote for the Brita water bottle. It is so handy to have, costs less (especially with my husband that drinks a gallon of water a day no kidding) and I also like that fact that we aren't throwing lots of plastic bottles away all day.

I think the water has tasted better the last few years. I remember trips in 2000 and 2001 when it was very dry in Florida. You could smell the smoke in WDW from the surrounding fires. The water was awful.

Since rainfall has gotten closer to normal it seems to have diluted the objectionable taste. We sometimes use the little Brita bottles, but usually just drink tap water.

Since we have always have had a stroller, we have always carried water and soda into the parks. We bought a 12 pack soft side cooler and take this on every trip. Since we rent a vehicle, we stop at a grocery store and stock up on water and soda. We also put a styrofoam cooler for the room (maybe $5.00) and ziplock bags to keep ice in the cooler from making a mess. We take eight to ten bottles into the park. They stay cold for hours. Those bottles save us about $15 a day - after ten days to two weeks that really adds up.

yeah it is worth it if this is not the only trip you ever plan on taking - I mean, we spent 800 on a digital camera. Was it worth it when I can buy a 15 dollar disposable? No.... is it worth it if you figure we will use it over and over and over again? then the answer is yes
