Is it really too hot ?

When we were there in April it was warmer than I had expected for that time of year but I'd love to know what's it really like June,July and August.

I understand about the thunder storms and rain isn't a problem but humidity and serious heat are. Our family just doesn't cope well when its too hot . I'm sure that this is a dilemma for many families as these months are the only months that are ideal in terms of no school but at what cost if its too uncomfortable.

I don't do well in hot weather, I am very pale and I get all hot and bothered but I have managed fine in August the last 2 years. It is very hot but you just have to be sensible and take plenty of breaks, go into places with air con, drink water etc.

we got married in full wedding attire last year and managed fine, we are going abck this year in 6 weeks and i'll be 5 months pregnant with twins

It is hot but i dont think its over hot, its not lke the hot days we had here a few weeks back its alot less humid

to be honest July in Florida is not too nice. We live in the Caribbean so heat and I are very good friends. The difference with the Florida heat in July is that there is no wind and the humidity can reach 100% so you get soaked in sweat. Until you've actually experienced it you have no idea what humidity is like.

With preference theres no way I'd do Florida in July/early August. Obviously some years are cooler than others - but you never know!

We've only ever been in August so don't know WDW as anything other than hot. The heat certainly slows us down.

We found some things were worse than others - Epcot can be unbearable because of the heat reflecting up from the concrete walkways, as can the parking lots and the pathways at Blizzard Beach (not to be done barefoot!)

But with careful pacing, good use of air conditioned attractions and plent of water we didn't find it too bad.

I've just returned from my 14th trip and so far the only months we haven't visited Florida are December and January so I feel like I know what months are best heatwise lol! This year we were away for 3 weeks from mid - June till last week and yes, it was pretty much unbearable! No way we could do full days at the parks and although I'm in my early twenties, I have a heart condition that becomes dangerous if I get dehydrated or lose salt through sweating so the heat really was a problem this year and I got quite ill at times. It actually made me feel like reconsidering going back for a while but we all agreed to just avoid Florida at this time of year from now on. For me the best times to go are mid march through April to late may (Easter time was always great for us when I was at school ), however, I understand this is not an option for you. Whilst I was at uni, we went three years on the trot in late August/early September and this was not as unbearably hot as this time of year. However, hurricanes were an issue (we were there at the time of Katrina) as were the usual tropical and electrical storms you get in June and July anyway. Heck, we have even been having Florida like storms up here in Lancashire this month ! So if the storms don't really bother you that much I would say go as late in August as you can!

Hi we got back about 3 weeks ago, and it was gettting warmer by the day, very humid and was low 90's to mid 90's all the time... thunderstorms wernt to bad for us normally kicked in mid late afternoon for a while but nothing to spoil any days for us really..

Im not great in the heat but i managed pretty well and our DD who is 3 & 1/2 was ok most the days, just drink lots and lots of water and shade when you get the chance, and plenty of sun cream as it gets you real bad out there walking around etc..

It never spoilt the holiday just dont try and do to much on the afternoons in the parks as it does really wear you down then, we were always out the parks by 3pm most days and then went back later on about 7.30pm...

i dont tolerate the heat very well, but we always go the last two weeks in August. It just depends on the year how bad it is... last year was almost chilly! (low 70s for much of the time! and lots and lots of rain) - previous year was a nice dry heat but the year before was incredibly humid.. so like any florida weather.. its changeable and a little unpredictable!

Expect it to be hotter than hell, and anything better than that is a bonus.
We still love going that time of year...

My personal choice would be to go when its not crazy hot! If I got a really good deal would I go....hell yes. But I wouldn't expect too much from the trip regarding touring. Its your choice and you your family best. Sitting on a beach when its stinking hot and touring WDW under the insaine humidity are 2 seperate things. I would be warry of anyone who tell you its fine, again only you know how your family deals with extreme heat and what your family wants out of a trip

We have visited WDW every August for the last 6 years and we go again in 17days time. What we try to do is get to the parks for opening time and spend 3to 4 hours doing our favourite rides. We would then return to our Disney hotel and relax by the pool for a few hours. One of the main reasons we stay at a Disney hotel is the fact that it is very easy to nip back to the hotel and return to the parks later in the day. It tends to cloud over during the afternoons in August and you will get thunderstorms on a regular basis. Fortunately, these storms tend to last for less than an hour and then things clear up. The heat will only become an issue if you try to do to much of the parks in one session. It then becomes more a test of endurance rather than having a good time.

we are going first time in August next year. Been in september past two years and that was hot enough , sweating from just standing still. However willing to give August a try - we will do morning and evening and take advantage of longer hours at night so we can have breaks during the hottest part of the day.

surface of the sun heat and humidity beyond what you thought was possible...

it really is pretty awful....but we're going the beginning of sept this year, and i know it will be just as bad

2 years ago we were there in early november and it was wonderful....never enjoyed the parks as much as we did on that trip...

but we'll be there again this year during surface of the sun season....

and keep in mind that we live in a place that has surface of the sun heat with unbearable humidity....but we don't attempt to walk around for hours at a time.....really an insane thing to do...

nevertheless, WDW here we come

Many who go in the summer only do so because it's the only time they can go.
July is unbearable and can also be busy too.

Late August being slightly quieter is a preferable time to go, there is no easy answer though it will be extremely hot & humid, just visit parks at cooler times of the day, shelter in the air conditioned areas and take things at a leisurely pace with plenty of breaks from the parks.

We go in July/August most years. It's hot, and can be rainy (especially in the afternoons), but it's not too bad if you take it slow and utilize the indoor attractions and air con regularly.

It doesn't feel like a Florida/WDW trip if it isn't beautifully sunny and boiling hot! Going at Christmas is lovely, but I do miss the heat

to give an idea of the humidity - you have this sheen of sweat all over your body that never goes away.....no matter how many showers you take in a day.....

the only way i can deal with it?
i try to get to this zen-like place where the sheen just becomes a part of me....
i become one with the sweat.....
i am the sweat.....

that's what it's like where i live....we walked into town yesterday (for our weekly friday lunch at our favorite cafe).....as the sweat pored down our bodies we laughed it off by saying we're in training for WDW....

We're doing August for the second time in 24 days!

Last time it was very hot and rather uncomfotable in parks like Animal Kingdom. (- do 2 mornings instead of 1 day)

Be sensible, take on plenty of water, dip in and out of the air conditioned shops, take breaks in the shade, use a water-spraying fan, use the water parks as your rest days.

Sounds terrible doesn't it? - Can't be that bad as we off again soon!

It is very very hot but they are far more prepared for it than in the UK. Everywhere indoors is air conditioned, nearly all the queues are indoors and the ones that aren't have fans and water spraying on you, there are lots of water playgrounds for the kids etc. If you need to cool off just go into a shop or restaurant for a bit. What is the point in going to Florida if it isn't hot? You will be fine.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Now some tough decisions to be made . Wouldn't it be great if you could experience one minute of the heat and humidity , you know like on Soarin where you can smell the oranges and pine forest and feel the breeze, that would make these decisions really easy.
