Is it really THAT bad?

Various reviews (online and off) have been shredding the Sci Fi diner at Disney/MGM. I can't help but think it can't be THAT bad. How badly can you screw up hamburgers and french fries?

My in-laws are joining us for part of our vacation this summer, and I think my father-in-law would get a kick out of this place. But we've never tried it.

Any (pun intended) feed back?

We've eaten there a few times. The burger and fries are good! Its when you venture away from those that you get bad reviews. My mom and I had the flat iron steak sandwich and it was just nasty! DH and DS both had burger and fries and ate it all! The chili is good and so is the spinich type dip. The sundaes are awesome!

If you just want burgers and fries you'll be fine.

We had a great time and a great meal... but we did have burgers, fries and awesome milkshakes!! (DS had chicken strips again, as usual! )

I'm not letting bad reviews keep me away from here. It just looks too cool. We'll keep to the burgers and fries and I'm sure we'll go away happy.

I noticed that the menu on allears only lists the burger for lunch, but not for dinner....does anyone know, can you still get the burger for dinner?

We're considering trying Sci Fi in December, but DH really wouldn't like any of the dinner items, but he would eat a burger and fries!

We have eaten there twice and would go back. We had lunch and had the burger and milkshakes. DD likes sitting in the car, both times we had a very funny CM, we enjoy the sci-fi clips, and if you are going when it is hot it is a great place cool off.

DS loves this place so we always end up here. DH and I aren't super thrilled with the food, but it is ok. Stay away from the chicken sandwich as it is dry, but DH gives the reuben a solid rating.

We ate there for lunch last August. It was our first time eating at the Sci Fi-we were pleasantly surprised It's a nice cool respite from the heat, the service was great, and as others have pointed out, if you stick with the basics you'll be fine. We would eat here again for lunch

we LOVE it here!!!!! it's great!! we get the burger and fries and i've had the reuben before!! although pricey, you are really paying for the ambiance anyway!! so it's tops for us!!

Yes you can get a burger for dinner! It is not on the menu, but we have had it twice for dinner. Our waiter said lots of people get it for dinner. Not sure why they don't just put it on the menu!
We love it there, best hamburger.

My dry and tasteless burger was on a bun so dry that when I attempted to pick it up it fell apart. The food here has to be the worst in all of Disney.

However, the experience is fantastic. It is worth a go. You can suffer through one bad meal, right? It won't kill you.

Haven't been there but I believe a lot of the poor reviews are based on the value. Seems that most who give it bad reviews aren't really upset with the food but more with the price. At $9.50 for a hot dog and fries they are going to have to have a lot of "atmosphere" to make that a value.

We went there for lunch last Spring and just loved it. In our case the service was great. My wife and I wanted to split and the server was so nice about it (split our meals up on seperate plates with twice the fries!).

If you've never been to Sci-Fi, but have been to EPCOT it might help you to think back to the inside of Mexico. The Sci-Fi does a great job of recreating the "night".

DO give it a try, it's great fun!!!

Our meal was edible, but nothing great or even good. Service is poor and that may have added to the bad experiences. We still go for the ambience, but only order onion rings & shakes.

We love the Sci Fi!!! We've been on every trip (twice this past week!) and love it. We always share a comet, artichoke dip, burger and a sundae.

The place is pretty cool. The food is no better or worse than a lot of CS places around just a bit pricey. Its worth a try. They did a great job with the atmosphere. Food aside it was a lot of fun

We went there last summer for the first time and are going back again this summer. I think if you stick with "safe" food, like hamburgers, onion rings, etc. its fine. The atmosphere is a blast.

We went last November and it was good.

I had the Salmon which was good, not great, but worth the price.
Wife had the Steak, was good, about the same as an applebees steak. Kids had Chicken bits.

The cost is more than what the food is worth if this was a normal place. The atmosphere adds a lot to the experience and cost. This is the same, to me, as paying for Hoop Dee Do. The food was good, but I paid for the Show.

We are not going back this November, but that is becouse we want to try something different.
