This will be my families 1st time at WDW and we aren't the type of family to make reservations so I was wondering if it's possible to just walk into some restaraunts and eat? So my question is; are walk in's welcome?

You may be able to find one or two depending on when you are going but they won't be at the most desirable restaurants or during the typical peak dining times.

Based on your ticket it appears as though you are going in September. For the past several years Disney has offered a Free Dining Promotion during this time frame. If the free dining is offered again I highly DOUBT that you will be able to walk into any table service restaurant.

Per your ticker, you're going in mid-September. If the Free Dining promo is offered again this year, do NOT expect to be able to walk into any TS restaurant without an ADR and get a table - especially at the "hot" restaurants (Le Celier, CRT, etc). You may get a table, you may have to wait an hour or two for said table, or you may get a chuckle from the CM when they tell you that they're completely booked. Sorry but Free Dining is probably the most popular promo. I'm one of the masses who plan my vacation for it so I know how difficult it can be to get an ADR even two months out (for our Aug. 2008 trip, I tried in June to change an ADR and wound up keeping the one that I had made in the beginning of May).

And remember- you can always make a reservation and cancel if you must. It's nice to know that you have a reservation to eat somewhere so you won't get blocked out. Also, if you don't make a reservation, you may waste quality park time waiting.

I wouldn't try it. You may have to wait a while or get turned away, then have to go from place to place trying to find TS. :headache:

Thanks everyone for your feedback and yes you are all right, I am planning on taking advantage of the free dining promo (if they offer it this year). Since this is the 1st time we have ever been I just have no idea where to start and what park to go to on what day! a lot of information to dort through that's for sure!

I know the title doesn't help much but we live only a few minutes from the park and frequently dine at Disney restaurants. Our favs are Germany and France at EPCOT. I like ESPN and we have gone to the Flying Fish. Also Ohana's at the Polynesian. All are crowded and you should choose ahead as far as possible.
Walking in will not get you a quick meal and by the time you are seated it will be late and you will have spent more time on a line than seeing the attractions.

Here is the best way to plan ( and I am not the best planner!! ) There are about 7 or 8 restaurants that are worth going to not just for the food but for the dining experience.
Ohana's in the Polynesian.
The California Grill top floor of the Contemporary Resort. Great view of the fireworks if you plan right. Fireworks vary 8PM to 9:30.
The Crystal Palace in MK
The Biergarten in Germany in EPCOT
For finer dining The Bistro de Paris which is above the Boulangeriein in The France pavalion. Reserve at 8:45 to be seated in time for the 9PM fireworks.
The Coral Reef restaurant is very good as well.
I have never eaten at Le Cellier Steakhouse but hear it is very good.

For a great steak ( expensive ) try Shulla's ( yes the guy on the Nutrisystem commercials ) but great ambiance and always a great meal. In the Dolphin Hotel ( of course ).

Off the park try Season's 52 on Sand Lake Rd. The most popular restaurant in the city so call ahead on this as well. All meals are the best and nothing served is greater than 475 calories. The 52 is for the ever changing menu. The prices are reasonable as well.

We were able to get same day ADRs this past trip for The Wave, Yak and Yet, and Saana.

I advise making ressies and then if you want to change calling to cancel, and seeing what else is available.

You have some time. Try to think of all the information sorting as FUN! :)
This is how I plan:
We are rope drop people and will not stay up late. We do not like to go back to our room in the middle of the day and then return to a park. My dh and kids definitely need 3 meals a day to prevent the grouchies. Also, we don't have the patience for a lot of line waiting and we have some vastly different tastes in food. This is important, IMO, to know because it greatly effects our scheduling.
We are not going to both with EMH's. We need breakfast before touring anyway, which would make the early emh's tight and we'd be exhausted by laste afternoon, and we are not going to make evening emh's because that is too late for my dh and older dd who are definitely not night owls. So unless we want to be stuck in the busiest parks, I puposelt plan to be in the least crowded , nonemh parks each day. I used touringplans.com to figure that out. Since I am a cheapskate, instead of buying the Unofficial Guide, I borrow it fro the library so that I can access more than the next 6 weeks crowd predictions :)
Once I decide which parks for each day, I plan the meals. We like deluxe. So I plan for a breakfast in the park we will be at that day, or at a resort close by the park. I plan a lunch inside the park. I plan a dinner for inside or at a nearby resort (prefereably inside the park).
To decide, I look at menus and photos (I love the food porn threads! I prefer the categorized one here http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1601839 but I also read lots of reviews to see more current information. I make a list of possible restaurants for each meal and then begin narrowing down. I look at it with my kids and husband who have input. We try to have a variety and don't go to the same place over and over. Finally, on my little calendar, I have places to eat for each meal, each day.
Before calling or going online for the ADRs, I put them into a list of which are the most important to least important. There are some we would be very sad to not get and others that we could switch for another restaurant without being too heartbroken. Then I try for the ADRs :)
The only ones you must keep, unless you give 48 hour notice of cancellation, are the dinner show ones. For this trip of ours, it's just CRT. Last trip it was also HDDR and I think Fantasmic Package. The rest can easily be cancelled if your plans change. Last time, we were so exhausted one night that we decided to skip the next mornings breakfast ADR and wake up whenever we wanted and eat in the resort food court. So that night I called and cancelled our Kona ADR. You don't even have to cancel, there is no penalty if you don't for those other than the dinner shows, but it is a nice courtesy to call and let them know when you realize you won't be coming.
You still have a few weeks, you should be able to do it :) Especially if you are planning on the basic dining plan and will only need on TS per day.

My thoughts exactly. Like a PP suggested, make some ADRs and then cancel them if you change your mind. Better to be over than under prepared. Eating out is a huge part of vacationing for us and it's no different at Disney. We aren't the type of people to skimp on food during a vacation and we're not going to eat peanut butter sandwiches all week just because we're at Disney. The character meals and meals like Le Cellier and Sci Fi Dine In just add to all the fun for us.

Sooooo, I highly recommend that you make ADRs so that you can enjoy your vacay more by having a plan and not waiting for HOURS to hopefully get in to a restaurant.
