Is it possible to walk to the Dolphin from the Yacht Club with rolling luggage?

We are considering a splitting our stay this summer between the Yacht Club and the Dolphin when we visit during the last 2 weeks of August. Would it be crazy to walk with our luggage (all of the suitcases have metal handles and wheels) from the Yacht Club to the Dolphin? I guess I'm just trying to save a taxi ride.

You would likely walk further to the self parking lot, if you were renting a car. Seriously, they are right next door...

Heck yeah, very close. I have done this "three martini shuffle" as my wife calls it no problem when our friends stayed at the Dolphin.

I walked with rolling luggage from the BWV over to the Beach Club. Although it's not crazy, be prepared for a few strange looks!

I just measured it off on Google maps and I come up with approx 2200 feet from the rear exit of the YC to the ground floor entrance of the Dolphin. You then have to go from the ground floor to the lobby which is on the third floor.

If you are familiar with Epcot, 2200 feet is the approx distance from the entrance turnstiles at Epcot to Canada in the World Showcase.

Figure about 15 minutes from lobby to lobby, especially seeing you will be dragging suitcases.

The summer heat may affect how feasible it is for you to move the luggage yourself. However, the taxi wouldn't be your only alternate option. Dolphin and Swan can transport your luggage to any WDW resort (and vice-versa). As long as you don't mind not having access to your luggage until 3-4pm at the destination resort, it's another option.

Thank you everyone for your relpies. About the heat, I was thinking about that. If we decide to walk, I think we'll do it very early, and then hit a park for rope drop.

I didn't realize that I could get my luggage transfered to the Dolphin. I knew you could do that between other WDW resorts, but I didn't realize the Dolphin and Swan were included. Thanks for that tip.

I've taken my luggage from the S/D over to BW..no problems at all. But a question for those familier with the layout at the Dolphin. Is there a door leading outside at the YC end/side of the Dolphin? I know there is on the other side, towards the pool and bus stops. If you wanted to stay inside, and use the hallways and then go out through a door at the end of that 'wing' that is next to YC, it would save a bunch of outside walking, wouldn't it?? But, I may not be remembering it correctly in my mind.

When I transferred from YC to BWV, I just rolled my suitcase right on to a Friensdship boat. It was no problem at all, and a lot more comfortable in the August heat!

Yes YC will transfer your luggage to the Dolphin, no worries there. If you decide you do want to take the luggage with you, it's a very easy walk, or as someone else mentioned, take the Friendship Boat (that will take much longer but you're sitting the whole time).

As far as an entrance on the YC side of The Dolphin - I always assumed there was one there, but on our last trip we searched & couldn't find one. I posted on the S/D thread about it & was told that there is one, but it's a service entrance or emergency only exit, it's not for public use.

I'm not sure if this is allowed, but a "Surrey Rental" could make the experience fun. Have the whole family and luggage on it, drive it to contemporary, and have 1 family member bring it back :)

Just a creative way. I have never tried it though so more research might need to be done. :confused3

sooooo, they would drag the luggage from the YC to the BW surrey rental, load it up, bike over to the bridge by the dolphin (i don't believe the bikes can be brought down there), have someone drag the luggage in and up to the dolphin lobby...............
nope - aside from the additional expense and painful legs, the walk from the YC to the dolphin is significantly shorter. yes, that would have been a great idea, unfortunately, the bikes are on the opposite side of the lake from the dolphin and YC.

assuming you meant the dolphin, and not the contemporary ;)

Personally I think that walking from the Yacht Club to the Dolphin with your luggage is a great idea and it would be about a 5 minute walk.

The walk would be fine - up and down a few walking "bridges", but you would be just fine.

Personally, I like the idea of the boat much better (depending on the location of your room). Just jump on the boat going to the Studios at the YC boat dock - Swan / Dolphin would be the next stop.
