Is it possible to take WDW transportation to DTD after checkout?

OK, first time staying on-site and we're less than a week out so it's time for all my questions!

On our last day, our flight doesn't leave until almost 7pm but we weren't planning on hitting any parks that day. Instead, I was hoping to utilize the AKL pool until we needed to check out then hit DTD to do some shopping and kill the afternoon. Are we still entitled to use WDW transportation after we have checked out? We will have a car but I keep reading that sometimes parking can be tough at DTD...

Yes, you can use WDW transportation all day on the day of your checkout.

But if it were me, I'd drive anyway. Even if you have to circle for a parking space for a time, it will probably be much faster than taking WDW transportation back and forth to AKL.

So there is no confusion.....you are considered a guest of WDW until midnight of your day of checkout. So you are entitled to use all the WDW transportation. Some might not know that if they have an UPH through their Disney hotel that is also good until midnight of check out day. That is unless you had the front desk drop your last day off the UPH.

UPH stands for Ultimate Park Hopper, which is the length of stay pass.

Yes, you are entitled to use Disney Transport and all the other facilities thru the end of your last day. And plenty of folks use it even when not Disney on-site guests. Make sure you remember to have some plastic bags to wrap your wet swim things in.

AKL to DTD makes a stop at Blizzard Beach. it is one of the longer commutes (tho IMO AKL has some of the best bus service of the Disney resorts). Would you be planning to come back to AKL before your airport transportation arrived then?

We did not get a UPH. We're only there 5 days total so I just purchased a 4 day hopper (would there have been any advantage to a UPH for that length of stay?).

Lots of people on this board talked about the difficulties in parking at DTD so I was considering WDW transport. However, based on your helpful info regarding the long commute from AKL...maybe it would be best to pack the car, hope for easy parking and spend the afternoon at DTD before heading directly to MCO.

It's easier to find a spot on the Pleasure Island side, near McDonalds. You should have no problems in the afternoon.

In the afternoon, AK Lodge bus runs directly from AKL -> Marketplace -> Pleasure Island -> Typhoon Lagoon (if open).

The Disney-MGM Studios bus is the one that runs through Blizzard Beach.


In regards to parking at Downtown Disney, the afternoon isn't too bad, it's the late afternoon, and all through the evening when parking becomes a nightmare.

Keep in mind that you can also use the pool at your resort until midnight of the day you check out.
We drive to dtd all the time, and although sometimes we have to walk further, we always find nice parking.
