Is it possible to get sneakers that aren't too expensive?

A good pair of sneakers is cheaper than a trip to the doc!
This is one place I would not skimp.
I have major foot problems and only wear high end New Balance. Currently wearing 1540 stability shoe. Loved 1224 and 1226 but they were discontinued. Those were more cushiony.
Good luck!

I just got a great pair of new balance shoes from joe's new balance outlet store on line for $19.99

I really need new sneakers because I'm 'training' for a 5k and the ones I have now are killing my knees and ankles. It's not really in the budget right not, especially because I got a new pair not too long ago. Unfortunately, after having my daughter my feet grew and they are too uncomfortable to wear.
Is it possible to get Nikes or New Balances without breaking the bank right now? Thx!

The New Balance 860v2 in grey/blue are on clearence/sale for $79 on thier website. This is the shoe I like so I bought two pairs.

Yeah, this is posted on my Hip2Save email as a great deal... here is the link to the deal - looks like its today only, great savings! Not many sizes left, though. :( Good luck!

New Balance 19.99

I bought a pair of Saucony Grid Cohesion 5 from Shoebuy.com using a 20% off coupon. I paid about $40 for them. I have bad knees and plantar fasciitis but these shoes are perfect for me. Since I started running last August, I have had no knee or foot pain and I have gone from couch to 2 5k's already.....third one next week :)

I have to get a new pair soon because I've put a lot of miles on them. I'm waiting for another coupon code to come out and I will be ordering the Cohesion 6. Oh, and as a PP mentioned, most professionals advise that your running shoes should be 1/2 to 1 size larger than your everyday shoes. I normally wear a 10 and I was pleasant surprised to find out that the Saucony's come in a 10 1/2.

Kohls!! They always have sales & coupons available. If you have a Kohls charge card they will give you 10% off every time you use it. Got this pair for $35 (with a 30% coupon) LOVE THEM!! Most light weight comfortable sneakers I've ever worn. I don't run much, but I do Boot Camp twice a week in them. After having kids I need a wide sneaker on my right foot. I've discovered Nike is the best brand for me.

Just noticed they're not available now but you may find them elsewhere or a different style you like.

I just started training for a 5k 3 weeks ago, I have never run before in my life. I have an old ankle injury and heel issues from being a former gymnast. A bunch of my friends are major runners and they all suggested a pair of ASICS if I could not afford so spend a ton. They all told me that cheaper is never better for running shoes and that you can get hurt easier if you do not have proper support. I ended up getting this pair.

They are on sale for $59.99 and right now there is an extra 15% off. They are actually cheaper then when I bought them a few weeks ago!
I tried on several types and this pair felt like they were already broken in. I love them! I found them to fit true to size. I am already up to 2.5 miles per run in them.

Thank you everyone for your help and suggestions. Right now I'm going to take a break from running. Hopefully by the time I can walk I will have the money for new running sneakers. Thanks again!;)
P.s. I checked all of the links that were provided, and they were all out of my size shoe. :furious:

Get fitted at a running store. I spent $120 for my first pair of Brooks. I didn't want to spend the money again (because I go through shoes every three months) so I went to Kohls and ended up with a fibula fracture because I needed stability shoes and the ones I got at Kohls weren't stability shoes. I found a stability Asics at Dick's for $79.99. Shoes may be expensive but injuries from running with the wrong shoe can be REALLY expensive. If you are going to run, you need the right shoes.

I have to second Saucony. I had heard they were great for awhile, got my first pair a week ago and can't believe how great they are!

I just got a pair of New Balance running shoes for $54. There were a few pair that were cheaper. This was at Carnival Shoes. They often have a buy one, get one half off sale, too. And the guy told me something I didn't know - if you can't find a second pair (or in my case, couldn't afford a second pair even at half off!), you can keep your receipt and then take it in later (he didn't say the time frame), tell them you couldn't find a second pair when you bought yours and they'll take half off a pair of shoes (same price or lower) for you.

I absolutely love my Ecco sneakers. I buy them new on Ebay for around $25 a pair for $125 shoes. They come in European sizes, so you need to make sure what size you are first. Look for the Ladies Ecco Receptors. My foot is a 7 and I wear a 39 (they call it an 8).

If I wear out the insoles, I buy Sof Soles for replacements. They are really wonderful. My hubby wears Ecco shoes with Sof Sole inserts and has no more foot pain. You can try them at Dicks Sporting goods and see which ones are the most comfortable for you. They are expensive (around $25), but I find that I can wear a quality shoe for many years as long as I replace the insole when it starts to get hard.

We have a New Balance outlet by us but I also like www.6pm.com...it is the Zappos discount site an we have gotten some good deals on quality footwear.

When they are available - I get my New Balance sneakers at BJ's (just like Sams' Club) for $30.:thumbsup2

I agree with all the others that say go to a store and get fitted by a professional. I just went today and spent $119 on a pair. I so wanted to get the cheaper $60 pair that was on sale but my feet have been hurting and honestly the more expensive pair had more support and cushion for my feet, which is what I needed. Its no fun having sore feet all the time, get good shoes!

I'm in Maine so we have 2 New Balance outlet stores. Any chance you're in Maine or have friends here? :)

I would look everywhere else in the budget before I looked at my sneakers. It's a necessary expense, and if you don't pay in $$, you pay in pain.

I would eat rice and beans for weeks before I cut my sneaker costs.

I was just talking to my husband who's a runner. He pretty much said the same things-get fitted properly and get decent shoes. Cut back on lunch money, coffee drinks, run to the store instead of drive...and so forth.

I'm going to agree with the posters who said to go to a running store to get fitted. If you are going to train and are already having trouble you don't want to be running in the wrong shoe.

I got fitted at my runnig store and then they didn't have any of the brand that was good for me that I liked (aka they only had really ugly white ones and I knew I was going to be putting them on daily - I wanted to like them!). I found them on Amazon in a different color for the same shoe and cheaper. They were still around 100.00, but totally worth it.

I wore them for an entire racing season and thought I could get more use out of them but started to have a LOT of IT band issues that sidelined me for months. I started wearing my back up pair that hadn't been worn and I haven't had any issues since (thankfully!). I do race extremely often though - most of them 1/2 marathons.

It depends how much you are going to be running but if it's something you want to continue - I highly recommend saving for the right shoe.

Try Target. I got the kids a good pair of New Balance tennis shoes and they had the equivalent for adults. It's not top of the line New Balance, but they looked pretty good.

The new balance you buy at Target, Shoe Carnival and the like are not the same as a good pair of New Balance from the store itself or from Kohls. You will know if they say all the extra features in the shoe. Target and the like do not have any of those features and are simply a basic shoe using the New Balance name with none of the good features you buy a New Blanace for. I found out by buying a pair at Show Carnival and then calling New Balance to ask what special features they had in them and I was told none they simply sell a basic shoe with no extras to certain stores who just want to sell the name.
