Is it possible to buy a 35mm camera?

I am looking for an affordable (under $150) 35mm point and shoot camera for an 80 yo woman. Are they even made any more? I have had no luck in finding one that is not SLR. She has absolutely no interest in learning how to use a digital camera.

If you look on Amazon, there's quite a few on there (just search 35mm film camera)...

This is just one I saw.. not sure how good it is, but it's right at your price you wanted.

I'm sure there's others just as good, and there were some really cheap ones as well.

Bear in mind, though, that film for regular 35mm cameras is becoming harder and harder to find. Stores don't stock nearly as much as they used to now that digital cameras have become the norm.

We bought my FIL a digital camera and a very simple photo printer. We had to write out very brief detailed step-by-step instructions to print out photos (and we pre-set it to 4"x6" prints). He loves it!

We had gotten him a 35mm, because that's what he wanted - but he couldn't find anyone that would develop the film (and he was opposed to mailing it off).

We bought the digital letting him "use it" to see if he would like it. He decided that it wasn't too bad and I think he really likes the ability to print out his own pictures immediately. (We just have to keep him stocked with ink and paper now.)

It's very hard to find someone to develop 35mm film, even harder to find the film itself! I now have a DSLR but I have to admit I love my old Minolta SLR (and all the lenses that go with it) but it's really not practical to use it much anymore. I agree with the PP about letting her 'try' a digital. I was stubborn at first myself but the ease of use and not having to pay for bad pics is one big plus to using them.

We bought my 80y/o grandfather a digital for Christmas last year...a very simple one that takes decent pics. He just takes the camera to CVS & they put them all up on the screen & he picks the ones he wants printed. (He'd still have to go to CVS to develop the film in his old camera...so it's not a hassle) Super simple...he doesn't know how to load them into the computer or play w/ the memory card & he doesn't need to! I think if your 80y/o would give it a try, she might like it! And she'd save money cause there's no paying for shots that don't come out like in the "old days" .

(My grandmother, however, won't go near the "damn thing"...she continues to buy her disposable cameras & develop them. She also won't go near their computer in the basement of their house...don't know what she thinks is going to happen...)

OP here. That sounds just like the person I'm buying for. The interesting thing is that she can record anything on a DVR or VCR. The digital camera is really easier.


To everyone else...I'll check Amazon and keep working on her. I had no idea that the CVS people would help a person that much. I just thought it all had to be done at the kisok.

I just went though the same thing for my MIL. I bought her a brand new in the box vivitar point & shoot for 39. on Ebay. They have quite a few new (old) camaras, Cheaper then amazon. Good luck
