Is it possible to plan a VERY last minute budget trip?

Here is my dilema...We are supposed to be heading to the family house in Myrtle Beach this March 14 for about a week. I have to be honest I am fearing cold/rainy weather there at that time and questioning our decision.

Should I book the Comfort Inn in LBV deal for $39 just "in case" ? We are driving either way so transportation isn't a problem. I figure the worst scenario is I would loose the $20 from Bookit for cancelling! We could pick up tickets while we are in WDW and wing it from there. It would be a quick 4 1/2day trip in WDW.

I basically have no ADR planned, would have to buy tickets, and anything else you all can think of. How can I make the trip budget friendly? Is that too scattered of a plan? Should we just pick one or the other? I am sooo undecided. Help??

Anyone want to give an opinion? Would love to see what my fellow Disers think we should do...Thanks :flower3:

if you don't mind losing the deposit then I'd book the hotel and go to your beach house first to see how the weather is. If it's yucky then spend the night and continue down to FL the next day.

I think it is smart to have a back up plan, because I would be leary of the beach in March.....and Disney is a heck of a back-up plan!

do it!!!! anytime to go to Disney is a plus in my book. we've gone there plenty of times with no real 'plan' and it's totally doable. if you don't mind the $20 cancellation fee that you'll have to pay, I say go for it! you should try to call for a couple of ADR's if you can since it'll be the very beginning of spring break for Disney so you might have a hard time getting in at the last minute. you should be fine if you just do quick service dining though or eat off site since you'll be staying at the Comfort Inn. Either way, have fun!!!:goodvibes

Having the back up plan is a great idea. I live 30 minutes north of Myrtle Beach. March temps are very "iffy" here and definitely too cold in the ocean. March winds can be really cold. Maybe you could keep costs down by doing Universal instead of all Disney days?

I would definitely make a Plan B. It's still chilly in March in Myrtle Beach. I think the previous posters suggestion of US is a good one and definitely budget friendly. Get the free Give a Day ticket and you'll have one free entry to DW. That will save you the price of entry for one day for each family member. My family is making posters. Can't get much easier than that and it's for a good cause.

Last minute budget trip possible? Definitely....I could have us packed and out the door in 30 minutes if necessary.:rotfl2:

So, will you have to just eat the cost for the week at Myrtle Beach?

Myrtle Beach has lots of things to do there besides going to the beach and swimming in the cold water. There was even a thread just this week about trips and what to do at Myrtle Beach.

So, my budget friendly advice is if you will have to pay for the rental at Mytle Beach either way - then just stay at Mytle Beach and check out the things to do there. If you don't have to pay for nights not used at Mytle Beach then go to WDW.

OP stated that it was the "family house", so I m guessing that means family owned, thus, no rental charges.

I would definitely have WDW as a back-up, and as long as you are ok w/ eating the dep on LBVCI, I say go for it!

You won't be happy if MB ends up being dreary, so better to have a happy plan in place!

As to budget friendly, take along food so you can save on eating out. LBVCI has MW and mini fridge in rooms to help w/ food prep.

There is also a CiCi's pizza right up from there. We always eat a couple of meals there to save $$.

Ponderosa has a breakfast buffet for something like $4 (drinks not included), and Golden Corral is about twice tht price.

Eating a buffet meal always holds us through 2 meals.

Be sure to take park snacks for those midday munchies, and carry water bottles w/ you to the parks.

Buy your tickets @ Undercover tourist to save a little $$. If you don't go, you can save them for your next trip.

Read through the Budget Board and you'll find lots of creative ways to save $$.

Good Luck!!

I like 60 miles from MYB and it has been a NASTY winter here. rainy and wet and colder than I have seen it here in 10 years. I really think you will be happier in WDW. Becuase even a wet day at Disney is pretty fun. MYB is boring in the rain. definatly not beach weather in march.

Maybe see if you can do a Give a Day Get a Day project before you go to get at least one free disney day. Then check out some of the discount places. they offer teeny discounts.

if you book thorugh the hotel directly would you not be able to cancel until 6pm of arrival day?

Lots of condos are cheap too....I think I'd just plan on a crowded Disney trip. Lots of spring breakers so ADRs aren't gonna happen...but it doesn't mean you couldn't have a fabulous time.

last time I checked, there were still moderates available for the spring offer...but it's been 10 days or so, maybe it's changed.
