Just popping in to say hi to everyone!:goodvibes I haven't been here since my day off on Tuesday. I started my regular hours this week....I get home just after 6:30pm now, so by the time I work out, shower, have supper, sometimes I just don't make it online much.
I work Saturday mornings now, too....I'll be back tomorrow night! Have a great Friday night all:grouphug:

:wave2: Did you enjoy our nice day today:lmao: At least it wasn't snow.

Quick opinion question:
I *may* run the Expedition Everest 5K in May (still need permission from DH!). If so, I'll be traveling solo. There are only 3 "official" race hotels - AKL, Caribbean Beach, and All-Star Music. I've always wanted to stay at AKL (my DH thinks it's too far from everything, especially with 3 kids in 2 strollers and no rental car - but that's another story) so I thought this might be destiny. :lmao: For approximately the same price I could get a savanna view room at AKL, a savanna view studio at Jambo, or the same studio at Kidani. It'll be a short trip - arrive super late on Thursday night and leave on Sunday. Which would you choose and why? Would you skip the savanna room and save a few bucks? I have an AP so I can go to the parks or just chill out at the resort depending how my mood strikes me. And we're returning to Disney with the kids in August for a one week trip so I don't feel any particular need to do anything.

Thanks for the advice,
Amanda

I would take the savannah view at JAMBO:goodvibes

PS my kids are the same age as yours and we have stayed at AKL twice now and returning in July:lovestruc

The animals were penned in the morning, let out for a few hours, the re-penned. This was all the animals. DH had asked was given times to look but didn't get a good answer. There was talk on the buses of other guests upset about it also. I am going to believe that something was going on during the time we were there.

We saw the animals around 3ish in the afternoon. Then a few a dusk. The last day we were there in the mid morning the baby giraffe was out, a truck came trying to get it back (that is what it looked like) then they sent out another giraffe (Mom?) and the another (Dad). This went on for a bit then all three walked towards the pen and were gone. At the time they were out, no other animals were seen.

As I said, it was being talked about in hallways and on buses, so I was not sure if this was a new thing, something I should have asked about, or not the normal.

Yes, the savannas are closed for 2 hours every morning. This has been going on for years (maybe since AKL opened). Only 1 savanna is closed at a time. So the animals are out 22 hours/day on each savanna. They bring the animals into the barns every day so that they can check them out and give them any special care that they may need. It also gives them time to make any repairs to the savannas.

so excited! we just confirmed out 1st AKV stay! we got a savannah view - i just have to call DVC to find out which one, jambo or kidani.

and its for food and wine too!

We are so excited!

I've been reading this thread for 2 days, but I don't think I'm ever going to get through it all! Since it's been over a year since our last visit to AKL (the horror!), I thought I'd better refresh my memory and make sure there haven't been any big changes I missed. My DMIL and DFIL have NEVER been to Disney  , and this will likely be their only trip, so we're trying to get organized and make it a good one!

We're staying in a 2BR standard view at Kidani. We had a savannah view last time, but we decided with the nice public viewing areas that it wasn't really necessary since we're not going to be in the room a whole lot anyway. I usually cook most of our meals in the room, but since we're taking first timers, we'll want to spend more time in the parks this trip. DMIL's boss also has DVC, so she's been hearing about it for years and is really excited!

We will arrive late on Sat. night (flight gets in at 9:55 so maybe around 11 by the time we get to the resort), so I'm wondering how much of a challenge it will be to get everyone to rope drop Sun. am. I've only done camping vacations with my in-laws in the past, and DMIL tends to sleep til 11, so I'm hoping she's prepared for a different pace! ...

....I strongly suggest that you advise her as to what to expect, or you'd better be prepared for DISASTER! Trust me - I speak from experience...

....can you believe it? THREE trippie updates in one week?? Neither can I...:faint: [...I'm exhausted!]

Hey All - Just poppin in to say HI :wave2:

It's GORGEOUS outside - gonna go get some pretty flowers for my planters and clean up my beds. Hope you all have a great day! :flower3:

Good morning, everyone. It's a mere three days until we pile in the :car: and drive a minimum 16 hours. to Port Canaveral.

Question: anyone interested in a live report from WDW starting Stunday? Have IPhone, will travel. But if no one's interested, I'll wait until I get back next week. Honestly, the best chance of a report from me is while I am on vacation. Who knows what abyss I might fall into once I return. Taxes, bills, wdw withdrawal....:scared1:

I'd love to do it live for anyone who wants it.

Oh, I'm totally interested:yay:

We are planning MK for Sun. with dinner at 1900 Park Fare, HS Monday with lunch at Big River Grille, Epcot Wed with lunch at LeCellier, AK on Wed, probably DTD Wed. night, and catch anything important we missed on Thurs. am before heading home. It's going to be fast and furious! Hopefully we all make it through the week without killing each other! I even proposed to DH last night that we let his parents have the master and we take the 2nd bedroom so the kids could sleep in our room with us and the couch and chair could stay folded up the whole time. He's not real keen on the idea of giving up the master, but agrees that it does make sense, so I'll have to wait and see what he decides!

Letting them have the master is a good and generous thing to do!

I would encourage you to plan some time apart. If DMiL has a hard time getting going - it may make for some substantial stress! If you agreed up front that you'd schedule many things together and then indicated that they would be welcome to join you for RD every day, but if she wants to sleep in - that's OK too. The kicker is that she needs to be ready to go when the family is ready. This can work if you have cell phones. I find at Disney I have to put it on vibrate and wear it on my body - I just never hear mine! Best of luck!
