Hi, all. My family and I are proud new DVC owners with AKL as our home. We have never been to the Animal Kingdom Lodge, and are planning our first trip there for next August. Because I banked our points, we are able to splurge for our trip.

I would like honest opinions, should I try 1 bedroom concierge? Should I try the one bedroom in Kidani Village (savannah view)? I am leaning towards concierge because it would truly be the only time we would ever be able to stay concierge. What are the views like in concierge?

Obviously I am seriously confused. I have been trying to read up on AKL as much as I could.

But some honest opinions and advice would be appreciated. I don't even know about the different areas of savannah view! I am truly a newbie here.

I can only answer part of your question, b/c we have never stayed at Kidani Village. But we stayed 1BR CL at AKL in October last year and loved it so much we are doing it again this year.

I promise everyone here is open to all questions and will do everything to help!

When I went I did not know in advance to request anything, so I think we just lucked out in that department.

Let me look for the map and I will post that so you can see it, we were in room 6202. The map shows all of the rooms and views.

remember that no matter where you are in the resort there are beautiful places with amazing views all over the resort. You can walk outside, sit and enjoy all the beauty around you.

I've never stayed at Jambo, have only stayed @ Kidani, but if you have the opportunity to stay concierge, go for it. I've only tried to get concierge once before, wasn't able to get it, but I am hoping to stay AKLV concierge for part of my honeymoon but if we can't get it, we LOVE Kidani!

I wish you the most magical trip ever!!!!! Be sure to get "First Trip" buttons when you check in. If the Cast Member does not give them to you automatically, ask for them. Magical things can happen with those buttons sometimes.

And I whole heartily agree, WONDERFUL pick of AKL for your first time at Disney! It was our first trip place as well...we fell for Disney H-A-R-D. We are now proud owners in Disney's Vacation Club and about to go on our 6th trip in 4 years. (and planning 2 or 3 more for 2011 )

Keep those confirmation numbers handy just in case. It doesn't happen often, but it DOES happen where ADRs are lost. If you have the number, they will find you and you'll be fine!

blondemom - I've never stayed CL, but have done both Jambo and Kidani. Both are beautiful! If I had a chance to do CL though I would JUMP at it! Are all the CL rooms savanna view now?

We leave in almost 8 weeks and can't to hop on the ME to Kidani. Have stayed at both but prefer KV. we do not mind the walk to AKL.

I was just able to get the new Room Only discounts that were posted this morning. I saved 25% on our Christmas vacation at AKL CL. Still hoping for a little bit better deal with an AP rate, but I will take this since I saved a little over $1200!

WOW it is early out west, been up since 3:45 AM checking WD.com and waiting. I have been on hold for 56 minutes waiting to do he exact same thing. Hoped to get an AP discount, but the 25% is better them my current rate.
