I am starting to plan my trip for 2005. I would really like to go before Christmas so we can see the parks decorated. But then again, my DD loves to swim and would like time in the pool - we will be staying at a timeshare - not sure which yet.

Is it too cold to play in the pool in December?

TIA!

It can be. December is very unperdicable weather.

I've been with our winter coats and sweat shirts and blanket for my DD in the stroller and then it's been shorts and tees and swimming no problem.

In 2000, we went the first week in December, and it was FREEZING. It didn't get over 40 or 50 during the day for a couple days. Then as the week progressed it got warmer during the day and by the time we left it was great weather.

Most nights were cold every year we went. There was one year though that it was actually hot and humid at night...I remember because we went to the MVMCP that night and we were hot.

Sorry but it's just very unpredicable.

I see you are from AZ, I would say it might be too cold for those from warm weather states. When we went at Christmas time a few years back my boys went swimming (they didn't stay in long, but they went).

My understanding from the locals was it was cold. I had to smile the day we went to Sea World and the carts near the entrance were selling knit gloves and hats and people were buying them :)

We wore shorts and sweatshirts in the morning and by 11:00 were usually in shorts and t-shirts, but as you can see at home it was in the 30's or colder.

I used to be a local FL resident and there were a few years that we swam in Dec, and believe me, this Dis'er doesn't swim unless it is warm! Anywhoo, as was stated, it may be warm enough and then again it may be freezing.

We were there in early Dec 99. We swam every night (heated pool, rented house) and wore shorts most days (it was colder in the morning and nights).

If the pool is heated, it's doable. We always go in winter and DS always swims but we are always on site where the pools are heated. It's really cold on getting out sometimes but a towel and run to the room make it possible.

we have been going the first week in dec for the last two years and its true- the weather is unpredictable for sure. the first day we were there- we all were in the swimming pool ( its heated) the last day- burr.. it was the coldest day of the year at 40 with a windchill factor. so I always bring clothing for all types of weather to be prepared

We swam every day the 2nd week of DEC in 2000- pools are heated. I guess we were lucky-

Go to weather.com about a week before your trip and put in 32830 (Lake Buena Vista zip code) in the search.
You will get an accurate 10 day forecast with highs and lows... You will have a good idea of what to pack.

Great tip CheapMom. We will do what you suggested this December!

All the main Disney pools are heated (not sure about the quiet pools). My family has gone many times in early December and the weather is very unpredictable. We have worn shorts sometimes and on other occasions, light jackets. We also had one December week were it rained every single minute of every single day that we were there.
My two DDs would swim every night after we got back from the parks. Once they got out of the water, they ran like crazy to get back to the room!
