Is it ok to ask an MGM question here?

Hope so...we're planning our first trip to Disney World in June. It will be DH, DS (2yo) and DS (4yo). I am learning quite a bit by browsing these messages! My 2 yo LOVES Bear in the Big Blue House so want to make sure we make it to the playhouse disney show at MGM. Any suggestions to make sure we get in, etc...
We only have 3 days so we are trying to plan wisely....we are "scoping it out" for our big trip in a few years...we're staying in a savannah room at Animal Kingdom...how are they?
Seems most of the character meals are more "girly" oriented (princesses everywhere!). I have probably overlooked some and would love your input! I think they'd have a good time if I could find one for the boys!
Do they not do Electric Light Parade anymore (ok, may be aging myself here!).
Thanks for your help and time!
I know....that was more than an MGM ? but thanks anyway!

Welcome to the DIS, ksmarper! :sunny:

As far as the Playhouse Disney show, you can get an entertainment schedule for MGM from your resort when you get there. If you go to the first show of the day it will probably be the least crowded.

I think Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary would be a good character meal for boys. Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, and Chip & Dale are usually there. If you go to the Animal Kingdom park, there is Donald's Breakfastosaurus with Donald and others.

They don't do the old Main Street Electrical Parade anymore, but there is a GREAT nighttime parade at the Magic Kingdom called Spectromagic. It's one of my personal favorites.

Don't be shy.... just ask away... it's how you learn and plan! :earsboy:

We'll be there in June, too... good luck with planning. :)

The Savannah views are AMAZING! We woke up every morning with the same giraffe eating from the tree outside our room. The animals are actually rotated through so that the same ones are there all day. The room itself may seem a little dark (not a WHOLE lot of light plus dark furniture will do that). I don't know what kind of beds your kids sleep in, but you can request bunk beds too. They're pretty neat.
For the Playhouse Disney Show, it gets crowded quickly. Like, really quickly. If you want to be up close, you'll wanna get to the line quite a bit earlier than the show start time. It's seating on the floor from what I've heard/seen, so be prepared to be squished in June.
There actually aren't many character dining things for boys. The only things I can think of would be things with the "Disney animal" characters (at least that's what I call them) like Pooh & Friends, or Mickey & Friends.
No more Electrical Parade :sad2: but there is Spectromagic like GarrettJD said. It's really amazing, everything is lightbulbs and the music is great. Possibly though, from some rumors floating around, this might change too for the 50th anniversary stuff... :confused3

If you need any other help, pm me and let me know. I can do my best to help. I'm leaving on Saturday, so I'll look into some things that might be of interest and post again when I get back.

Playhouse Disney is a sitting on the floor activity, with lots of kids bouncing and dancing, so if you put your hands down, be careful they don't get stomped on!

You will love AKL. I can't say enough about it.

If you're looking for some characters that are not "girlie", check out Buzz and Woody, and Mike and Sulley from Monsters, Inc. while you're at MGM. If you're trying to find certain characters, ask a Cast Member to point you in the right direction.

Have fun!!!!

Mike

I have 3 ds so we look for the non girly things too. My boys did a pirate cruise out of the GF a couple of years ago. It is not a character meal, but a fun experience. They found a piece of a map floating in the lagoon then followed that piece to the next piece until the finally found the treasue. They each got a loot bag and a bagged lunch. Parents cannot go with the kids on this, but the pontoon boat each had to CMs which are lifeguards. My boys also like chef mickeys and the garden grill character meals. Hope this helps

For Playhouse Disney, I'd get there 10-15 minutes before showtime at the very least. It tends to get very crowded there and I would see the first show of the day to be assured of getting in and getting good seating.

MGM has got to be my favorite park! I love the movies, so it's my kind of place! I recommend spending at least 2 days at the MGM studios so you can get all the fun squeezed in! :earsboy:

DO NOT try and get as close to the stage as you can at Playhouse Disney. Linger back a little and try and sit on the floor about in the middle. If you get too close (the very front) little ones can't see what's on the stage. The characters (Rolie Polie Olie, Stanley, Pooh, Tigger, etc.) aren't very tall and if you're too close to the stage you'll only be able to see their heads and not their whole bodies. Also, during the show bubbles and streamers come down from the ceiling and they come down better in the middle. If you're up front you hardly see them at all and you usually end up turning around to see what's behind you. :wizard:
