Is it necessary to schedule Magical Express transportation?

I am not sure if we want to take ME from the airport to our resort. We are thinking about just doing an Uber ride. But if we were to decide last-minute, at the airport, that we want to take ME (like if the line is short and the bus is already there), is it possible to just hop on without a reservation or luggage tags or anything?

But you might want to take it. It may be your only chance. It’s done next year. We Uber and it can be much faster depending. But definitely faster even a little. And you don’t meet up with luggage until you get to your resort on Magical express.

Pretty sure they have to have you in the system so they know your are eligible to use it.
I'd set it up and then if you don't use it your don't use it.
Are you intending to use it from your resort back to the airport?
If so that MUST be set up ahead of time for them to know when to pick you up and make sure they have room on the bus.

We did ME for our trip in 2018, and while it was a cool experience to have, we did not like how long it took. The bus was there when we arrived, and we didn't have any line to wait in, but we still sat there on the bus for like 45 minutes. Maybe more. Just sitting there when we were so excited and had an ADR was a little torturous, lol. I don't think anyone else ever boarded. It was a tad frustrating and I want to avoid that this time. Also, we took it back to the airport after our trip and they were really late picking us up and we almost missed our flight.

Don’t do that if you are checking luggage. They won’t take your luggage over if you don’t get on.

Magical Express no longer pickups your luggage, so they won't send you luggage tags and you have to claim your own baggage at baggage claim upon arrival. Having a reservation with them is a good idea since they use that to determine the number of busses needed at any given time. You can always call to cancel if plans change. When we last used Magical Express, there was a Disney employe at the entrance to the waiting area with a computer terminal so they can lookup your reservation if you have forgotten or misplaced your paperwork.

The bolded has changed. Everyone needs to get their luggage at MCO and take it to the bus with them.

To the OP, unless they've changed the layout, it will be hard to tell what bus is actually there.

Bad information
Magical Express does not pick up luggage anymore and has not since reopening

Dear everyone on this thread. I promise not to give anymore information on things that may have changed due to Covid as I am not familiar with what those all may be. Deal? 😬 Sorry about that.

Shoot. Are you sure Magical Express is not going to reimplement taking luggage.? There was not a date of travel given. So maybe it should be stated how it used to be and if it comes back. I want to back out of the thread because I am seeing I’m by no means an expert here. I don’t want to give them a lack of information though. Could you maybe elaborate?

Its POSSIBLE it luggage pick up will come back but with DME ending entirely at the end of the year its looking less likely that it will return.
I think we should be giving people the most updated info to help them make the best decision for them.
Personally if I go and they still aren't picking up luggage I'd rather know that ahead of time because I'd do carry on only so I don't have to go wait for my luggage and lug it around with me.

I guess the big part of that is we don’t know, and I don’t want to assume. When I was assuming everything was the same with luggage, it brought the hammer from zoo2tycoon.
So I think current information is important but who knows when their trip is so complete information is better. I guess I shied away from the thread because I got shut down so hard. I think you and I were having a healthy discussion that might have brought light to what the luggage situation is and may be (a more complete picture).

I guess we should all consider what is the goal of the thread. It’s certainly not to simply tell someone they are wrong. I did that to you toward the top, and I apologize. I should not have just contradicted you.
It did happen to me after that (not by you). I am personally going to make the decision that my position will not be just to try to correct someone, but to help the inquirer get complete information- as was your intention.
But again, I feel like zoo2tycoon seems to be the most knowledgeable and maybe he wants to jump back in? Maybe he knows what the future holds for luggage?

You got "shut down hard" because many people will immediately reply to a post and not read the full thread. And, those who corrected you all posted within 3 minutes. So even if they had read the entire thread, they may have been typing while others posted.

No one thinks you were intentionally trying to give wrong information. But as the board moderator likes to say "there is no pixie dust on the Transportation board". It's all about facts. I don't think anyone who corrected you did so rudely.

I do agree with @Pixie Dusted Snow that the fact DME is being shut down at within a year makes it doubtful luggage delivery would return, even if Covid goes away. And even if @zoo2tycoon has some inside line and knows Disney is planning on bringing luggage delivery back in July (for example), no one should really count on it because Disney could change their mind.

No inside knowledge! That’s why I didn’t reply to the post you quoted.

Understand completely. I appreciated the response. Nevertheless, “doubt” is not data (my stats. professor would say) and so omitting information that was once policy is giving them a lack of information. I am not saying they should count on it, but I am saying they should be aware of past (or possibly suspended based on Covid) policy that was changed and we do not know what the future holds, regardless what we may suspect. It doesn’t hurt them to know the past info along with current info. Then they can make an informed decision.
Please anyone else reading. I am not willing to engage on whether it will come back or not. It is not my point.
I’m glad we engaged in this discussion. This has helped me grow on how to engage others in relaying information to them. Thank you for your courteous dialog.

Ok. I felt like someone else was going to take over here to help you out so sorry for the delay. Attached is Disney’s Magical Express statement.
Since you mentioned luggage tags, maybe you are familiar with the information that Disney World typically takes your luggage to the resort. This statement says that it currently isn’t doing that as a mitigation measure. Plus, the fact that they will not be offering Magical Express next year, there is speculation that it might not come back. Therefore, if they do not offer transportation of luggage you could reserve Magical Express and then not take it. If the “modified measures” during “initial reopening” discontinue, and they do offer luggage transportation, then you would run into the problem with your luggage that I mentioned earlier. So it’s important that you know which they are doing prior to making your decision...
Aw what the heck. Just take the Uber 😂
