Don't you think it's wrong that people who didn't get a "code" via email/postcard are using the code? I'm all for saving money and trying to get the best deal but I just don't think it's fair that those who weren't lucky to get the code are calling to get "lucky". I have a trip booked (via Dreams Unlimited) for end of September and since it's not a general public code I haven't requested that they keep calling or that I call to see if I get lucky and then cancel my reservation with them. I'm happy for everyone who has gotten the code and good luck to those who are trying.

Ok I'm ready for the flames.

... but i agree with you, its not right to take advantage of a code that not for you!

Unless someone is calling and telling CRO that they have a pin when they actually don't, I don't see anything wrong with it. If someone calls CRO and inquires about the 40% off and CRO gives them the discount without asking about a pin, then I see nothing wrong with it.

I have my reservation with AAA for May. Unfortunately, my dates are not part of the 40% off times, but if they were and my AAA representative wasn't willing to try and get 40% off for me, then I would definitely try and get it for myself through CRO and cancel with AAA if I got it. I wouldn't claim to have the "pin" or "code" if I didn't get it, but I would still try and get it. It looks like many people are getting 40% just by asking for it. Good for them!!!

Who cares what other people do?

Do I care that I got an email code, my friend got a postcard and someone else got the same rate with neither? No. It's none of my business. My life goes on just the same whether someone pays rack rate for their vacation or wins one for free.

Here's what I wonder about, without getting into the fairness question exactly...... It's possible that Disney won't be honoring the rate for people who didn't get a PIN but are currently booked using the code. No way to know, but it's possible. If that happens, do they open up more rooms to the PIN holders or are the people who were supposed to have access to the discount just out of luck?

I admit that I did get the discount w/out having an actual email or post card. It may be that I have one coming or have missed one and it was associated w/my name anyway. I know others have called and been informed of this at other times much to their surprise.

I do find it a little amazing that the number of DIS'ers who are able to use this code w/out a pin is just a coincidence. This hasn't happened before so why now? Could it be that a new General Public code is coming out?

I called my TA (not trying to side-step blame) and asked if she would inquire for me. I can't as she made the ressie. I figured it couldn't hurt. All CM could say is no. I was/am fully prepared to pay rack rate as that is what my original quote is. :scared1: If for some reason they deny me the discount I'm out nothing. If I do get it then I'm sure Disney will get my savings back in other ways.... tours we may not have done... etc.... I paid rack rate on my last 2 stays so it's no biggie to me. Do I want to? No, but I made my ressies knowing the cost and being prepared if no discounts came out.

Oh My! I didn't read this post and just finished posting the EXACT same thing here in my own thread. I totally agree with you. It's not right. By the time I get my dates arranged, there will be nothing left. It's wrong.

No flames from me, however you are making judgments (and paying a lot more $$) based on information you believe to be correct, but which may not be correct at all.

People, including TA's are making reservations giving a 3 letter code without ANY mention of a pin. In fact, last time I had a post card mailed to me, all that was required was the pin # - no code at all.

The WDW TA site is promoting Best Weeks at WDW. Some of these rates may have been put aside for post cards/emails and some may not - the only folks that REALLY know are the Disney marketing people (not even the CM's - which is a whole other discussion).

Until someone that booked a room using the code without a pin gets a call from WDW rescinding the offer, using words like “not fair” and “wrong” is simply not accurate

I booked the discount without receiving a card. I called and asked CRO about discounts and they said that it was an available discount to anyone with no pin needed. This is what I was told by Disney, so why should I feel like I am doing anything wrong? :confused3

Seems like it may be time for a little off-topic definitions (I keep seeing similar to the above)

code - the three letters the cm puts into the computer to tell it which deal you are getting if other than rack rate...think of other hotel/airline/rental car ressies online where there is a place to enter the discount code you might have.

Pin - the set of numbers that allows you to access a Pin Code.

Pin Code - a code that is only accessible by a Pin

PostCard/Email - Disney's method of Letting you know you have a Pin for a Pin Code. It contains information about the deal and the Pin but does not actually contain the Pin Code.

Think of the "deal" as your bank account. Your bank account is identified by an account number (the code, in this case the Pin Code). To access this account from an atm (think CM or online system) you need your Pin number (Pin).

Apparently the public isn't given the Pin Code since giving the Pin automatically accessess the Pin Code.

That makes sense! With all these terms being used I appreciate seeing how it is laid out. Thanks

I agree.

I got the postcard the day after my dh booked the trip and we weren't at all sneaky about booking our trip. He asked if there were any special incentives and the Disney agent gave him the discount. I don't find anything wrong with this. It's like going to a department store and asking if they have any 20% off coupons available. I don't think Disney would be booking all these trips if they didn't want to. It turns out that we have a promotional card available if they need the pin numbers, but I could care less if other people are booking their trips and saving money without the pin numbers. Disney isn't stupid...they are making money any way you cut it with this incentive. Personally, we're spending $1000 more than we had originally planned so Disney has succeeded in roping us into going over budget. ;)

I got a postcard. And I don't care at all that people that didn't are getting the deal. Good for them. Disney is expensive enough, why not be happy for everyone that can save? Disney gets it back. It isn't as if this is stealing, or ripping Disney off. Last year because of free dining I upgraded to the Poly from a value. We were then upgraded to concierge, and now we will stay concierge all the time. Smart Disney.

As far as people that get the card or email and wait to book just to find out that hardly anything is left, that isn't anyone's fault, if you are worried about that, book faster! Now, saying that might not be fair, but neither is saying that someone who didn't get a postcard is wrong to use the code, especially since in some situations CMs are volunteering the information, or telling them they don't need a pin! Chances are this is no mistake anyway, otherwise it wouldn't be going on for so long. Anyone else seen a "glitch" that lasted this long?

I find it odd that so many people are able to get the discount just by asking for it...myself included. But I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth. I didn't have to lie to get the discount, I told the CM exactly where I heard about it, so my conscience is clear.

Who knows, maybe this unexpected discount is part of "A Year of a Million Dreams" and Disney is just bestowing some pixie dust on some eager callers. :goodvibes

I agree - I was completely honest with the CM - she asked if I received the code in the mail and I told her no, I'd seen it on the internet. I asked twice if I needed a PIN and she assured me no. Now, she did take some time to find me in their database so maybe my name was flagged in the computer. I was clear that I wanted the reservation to be "legal" and I got the code applied without a problem.

I still don't get the logic and I really am frustrated for those who can't get it - I just feel blessed to get a little pixie dust!

I don't think it's wrong at all for anyone trying to save money on their vacation. C'mon, we have all been there and paid their outragous prices...$2.50 for water, $5.25 for a bottle of beer, $13.00 for a cheesburger and fries. I spent $5.00 on a lousy Stitch pen for my DD. Paid $82.00 at the Splash Mountain gift shop for 2 shirts and a towell for my nephews! I don't feel guilty one bit about asking for a discount! I will go on to say that I got my 40% discount legitimately, but would not hold it against someone for using creative ways of getting one...

I called last week and was able to use a code to book our August trip. I'm planning to call tomorrow to see if I can book a Christmas trip. :cloud9:
